04/22/2015 at 22:51 in reply to: Xbox 360 wireless controller tutorial (troubleshooting tips)) #95925whywilson1Participant
I think the biggest reason why people keep having issues, and why I had so many issues with my 360 controllers was because I ran multiple methods to setup the controller and never removed it. Even after clearing my SD card Jstest would recognize 6 controllers but the 1st was controller #3.
Just remember if you want to change your controller setup for different RetroArch emulators the folder location is
cd /opt/retropie/configs
Just make sure to edit the retroarch.cfg file in the specific emulator AND at the top change the default location from ALL to it’s newly edited location.
And here is my RetroArch Xbox 360 wireless controller mapped out.

whywilson1ParticipantAfter trying some solutions I only managed to mess up my controller so much that I could no longer navigate the RetroPie menu itself.
After that I reloaded a fresh img.
BUT when I reloaded the image for whatever reason controlled 1-4 were not recognized. It was now reading controllers as 5 and 6. Somehow I solved this, but at this point I’m giving up because installing 3.0 was clean and simple except for whatever the heck happened with the controllers.whywilson1Participant
try using retroarch-joyconfig -p 1 -j 0 and retroarch-joyconfig -p2 -j1 (P for player. j for joystick number)
Could you give some more instruction on this? I found the retroarch-joyconfig file but I don’t know if I’m doing it correctly.
whywilson1ParticipantThere is no GBA Retroarch emulator folder, and even if there was I doubt that would work since they are different emulators.
I tried doing the same thing you mentioned in the .cfg file for gpsp but it messes with the games and they fail to load. It would just be nice if every save file went into a nice folder without having to manually change the settings for individual emulators.
whywilson1ParticipantOut of curiosity has N64 emulation changed much over the past two weeks in terms of compatibility with the RPI2?
I’ll probably give this img a test drive if so. For the most part I really haven’t had any luck getting many N64 games working well.
02/16/2015 at 21:57 in reply to: Pi2 full compatibility with emulation of fifth-generation consoles? #87731whywilson1ParticipantFinally figured out how to configure my controller for the N64, got a couple of games working too. MarioKart 64 looks pretty good, just some random black boxes here and there.

whywilson1 : Did you try the 2.5.0 version? I just copied/pasted the n64 configs and emulators folders on my previous microSD, and did what I mentionned above, and some games work decently (Super Smash Bros for exemple).
Well I used Buzz img file, but then I updated the Binaries. And I have no idea what version of RetroPie I’m actually running now 2.5 or his version still.
whywilson1Participant@Floob Thanks for the info. Elgato seems pretty straight forward.
@Roo. Before I came to this forum I DLed the 2.3 Img. THEN, I got it working because of Buzz img and Floobs help.
Everything works fine except for N64.

The other overclock settings only apply to the Pi1. You’ll actually be running it slower if you use any other setting!
I have a Pi2 and was curious about the Overclock settings.
What is the actual default setting for the RI2? Is it the max setting displayed at the bottom? Also I haven’t had much luck getting N64 games to work. I’ve watched Floobs video on the topic a few times, made some changes here and there but most games don’t get past the start screen. Those that do play horrendously, are out of sync etc etc. I guess I’ll just wait for an update.
Any idea on whether or not there will be an update to better serve N64 and PSX games?
whywilson1ParticipantNot really sure where it says I have write access but that sudo command worked. Unfortunately I cannot view the savestate folder via Putty :( that would make managing save files easier in the future. Thank you for all the help.
pi@retropie /home $ ls -lah

drwxr-xr-x 12 pi pi 4.0K Feb 15 15:18 piNvm, found an alternative to Filezilla in Cyberduck. Floob, you and Buzz are my heroes. All that’s left for me to do is get my N64 emulation up and running now.
whywilson1ParticipantWell, taking the # off worked it is no longer saving to the ROM folder. But now when I try to save it says failed to save to the savestate directory. Do I have to create that folder some other way besides this?
sudo mkdir savestateThis is the message
failed to save to /home/pi/RetroPie/savestate/Donkey Kong Countryunsure why the DKC pops up at the end
whywilson1ParticipantWell I tried the directory that you reference, still no luck. Savefiles are going into the ROM folder. Also idk how to copy the entire .cfg file on Putty. For whatever reason I am unable to use Filezilla. But below is the only thing I changed.
## Skeleton config file for RetroArch
# Save all save files (*.srm) to this directory. This includes related files like .bsv, .rtc, .psrm, etc …
# This will be overridden by explicit command line options.
# savefile_directory = /home/pi/RetroPie/savestate# Save all save states (*.state) to this directory.
# This will be overridden by explicit command line options.
# savestate_directory = /home/pi/RetroPie/savestatewhywilson1Participantty ty
whywilson1ParticipantI’m actually in this folder.
/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/retroarch.cfg
I’ll see what I can do about the .txt
whywilson1ParticipantWhen you say option 1. are you referring to the “Binaries-based INSTALLATION?”
I ran option 6 and U Updating the Retropie Binaries and Setup Script yesterday, is there a difference?
whywilson1ParticipantWith regards to the new Raspberry Pi 2 NOT being compatible with RetroPie I am curious about a few things.
@Buzz I downloaded the Img created by you Buzz and am now running RetroPie on my Raspberry Pi 2 but when a new Img comes along say V2.7 will I have to download and write that to my SD card via WinDisk? If so doesn’t that delete all of my data?
Or do I simply need to just run the apt-get update on the raspberry pi? This is driving me a little crazy because I know it will be a possible headache down the road.
Also, what ROMs haven’t been working on your IMG. So far I’ve only tried NES, SNES and N64. The first two have been okay but no N64 ROMs work at all.
Thank you oh so much for your work! From this raspberry Pi newbie.
whywilson1ParticipantWell I tried Jet Force Gemini on the both N64 emulators…and to no avail.
The Mugen one crashed. The other simply goes back to RetroPie. Time to try SNES.EDIT ****
Well SNES works…but I’m now at Roadblock #57. I can’t configure my wireless Xbox360 controller, and my wired controller doesn’t even work on any games. WTF.
whywilson1ParticipantWell I finally got RetroPie up and running via Buzz Img.
Now I am stuck on trying to configure my Realtek RLN8192CU WLAN adapter. I’ve looked at a TON of things online but nothing is working.
I have one question do I need to be connected via Ethernet BEFORE I can configure it?!
Any suggestions, or threads I should try?
EDIT****
Well I finally got the USB to work.
What I did differently was unplug the adapter change the settings reboot the Pi then plug it in.Now I’m updating the binaries…and my god this is taking awhile. I wish there was a progress bar somewhere.
whywilson1ParticipantCan I get some help?
I purchased my Raspberry Pi 2 about a week ago and after reading through EVERY comment here I have realized that I cannot go forward with my plan on formatting it with RetroPie. I’m new to this and planned on using wireless controllers and a wireless keyboard/ trackpad so this has set me back quite a bit.
I’m looking into using the IMG Buzz put together but I still have yet to get ANY display on my Pi yet after about 8 hours of troubleshooting. I know it works as both the Red and Green LEDs are working.
Can anyone perhaps give me some help here so I can get this to at least display.
