ParticipantYes the roms have to be named correctly, see here for the full list: http://code.google.com/p/imame4all/wiki/GameList

ParticipantIf you put a seperate retroarch.cfg in the individual emulator folders that will override the default retroarch.cfg in /configs/all Useful for custom controller mappings
trimmtrabb
ParticipantTry SFTP using Filezilla instead

ParticipantYeah quite a few will run at a playable speed, there’s a frame skip option in the GUI which helps. Overclocking will help too.

Participant
As far as I know I am not using a ROM set. The games that I have tried with mame4all-pi are Pac-Man, Asteroids, 25th Anniversary Pac-Man, and around 14 more. Some of them come with files missing. I also have tried downloading them from different sites too.
The roms you need to use are from 0.37b5 which is an old romset from around the year 2000. Most of the rom sites have newer roms which won’t work, you’ll have to locate the compatible versions.

ParticipantAh good :-)

Participantusb pads are plug and play generally. Did you try what I suggested above?
trimmtrabb
Participantwhich romset are you using?
trimmtrabb
ParticipantI have an SD card to boot from (any old card will do I use a 512mb) and run RetroPie off a 16GB usb stick. Check out this thread for running off usb: https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/how-to-run-from-usb-the-best-method/

ParticipantIn retroarch.cfg try changing ‘input_player1_joypad_index’ from 0 to 1. I’m sure I read a post a while back where their wired 360 pad was assigned js1 instead of js0.
trimmtrabb
Participantwhat problem do you have exactly?
trimmtrabb
ParticipantIt is supposed to be jstest not jtest… second guessing myself
try
jstest /dev/input/js1
trimmtrabb
Participantapologies, should be jtest not jstest
trimmtrabb
Participantrun this then try again:
sudo apt-get install joystick
trimmtrabb
Participantare you getting any output when running:
jstest /dev/input/js0
trimmtrabb
ParticipantTry copying the contents and editing with nano manually rather than transferring over.

ParticipantHi, this thread may help you: https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/mame-roms-not-working/

ParticipantI believe rpix86 has the best performance as it’s optimised for the Pi. You would need to manually add dosbox command/paths to es_systems to use it in Emulation Station
trimmtrabb
ParticipantDidn’t realise you could get cases like that, cool! Yeah I don’t think i’m going to go that small, maybe a mini table top arcade or something. Good luck with your project :-)
trimmtrabb
Participantah didn’t think do. Found this battery, seems like a good deal what do you think? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00BP68FOG/ref=redir_mdp_mobile
What kind of case are you planning to use/make by the way?
trimmtrabb
Participantoh fair enough. So how long does it run on battery power? And can the screen be powered via the Pi’s usb port?
trimmtrabb
Participantgreat idea! look forward to seeing the finished project :-) I have ordered my screen, what video settings in config.txt are you finding work best?
trimmtrabb
Participanttry reinstalling GPSP via the setup script, it’s in ‘source based installation’
trimmtrabb
ParticipantPicodrive is the fastest/most compatible emulator to use, the other option is DGEN which you can install via the setup script, you then need to edit es_systems with the correct paths. Not used DGEN much so no idea if it supports 6 buttons sorry.
trimmtrabb
Participantwhich romset are you using? needs to be 0.37b5
trimmtrabb
Participantif you press f4 after attempting to run the emulator what errors do you see?
trimmtrabb
ParticipantI was thinking it might be that, glad you sorted it :-)
trimmtrabb
Participantare you loading a game that supports 6 buttons?
trimmtrabb
Participantyes copy them off with a ftp client, I use Filezilla. When you say stop working, you can’t run the emulator at all?
trimmtrabb
ParticipantI’m not sure why that is happening, the GBA emulator isn’t configured via Retroarch. Try backing up your es_systems.cfg and gpsp.cfg before running the auto config and then restore afterwards
trimmtrabb
Participantjust comment them out with # in es_systems.cfg, remove the directories as well if you wish.

ParticipantIf you post your config.txt i’ll have a look. Also have a look at the video options you can configure in RPiconfig: http://elinux.org/RPiconfig#Video
May be something in there that can help you.trimmtrabb
