A 2A psu will power the B+ and have enough juice to power the 4 usb ports, even with power hungry devices like portable hard drives: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=82823
trimmtrabbParticipantEdit es_systems.cfg:
sudo nano /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
Navigate to the emulator you wish to modify and change runcommand.sh to 2. This will preserve the resolution you have set.
trimmtrabbParticipantRoms need to be from romset 0.37b5

There’s a thread over at Raspberrypi.org that may be of interest: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=80674

08/08/2014 at 11:51 in reply to: RetroPie white screens during loadup with certain roms installed #28196trimmtrabbParticipantWhat power supplies are you using? Anything under 1A will cause problems
trimmtrabbParticipantYes, edit mame.cfg in /opt/retropie/emulators/mame4all-pi/
08/07/2014 at 11:49 in reply to: RetroPie white screens during loadup with certain roms installed #27338trimmtrabbParticipantCould be not enough video ram, which model Pi do you have?
trimmtrabbParticipanttrimmtrabbParticipantWhere did you place them? /home/RetroPie/roms/ ? Also a reboot is required after adding roms.
trimmtrabbParticipant@nilsbyte You guys have done an amazing job on the new ES, really impressive! Thankyou!
trimmtrabbParticipantWhich roms did you copy over?
trimmtrabbParticipantPress tab in MAME to bring up the menu and you can configure your controls in there.
trimmtrabbParticipantMAME roms need to be from the 0.37b5 romset. Here are rom the compatibility lists:

When you edit rc.local make sure you specify a wired pad with -id
trimmtrabbParticipantOk, run:
sudo apt-get install joystick
And try again
trimmtrabbParticipantTry js1 instead
08/05/2014 at 21:13 in reply to: Help needed – wiki article(s) need to be updated with new folder organization #25648trimmtrabbParticipantI’ll have a go on my next day off, do you think a new section for people using the RetroPie image would be helpful?
trimmtrabbParticipantYes, yoy can determine which buttons are which with jstest:
jstest /dev/input/js0
Then edit retroarch.cfg accordingly.
trimmtrabbParticipantSNES emulation on the Pi isn’t perfect, PiSNES is the best emulator to use in my opinion, the commands are in es_systems.cfg, copy it to /home/pi/.emulationstation/ to edit
trimmtrabbParticipantPlease post the contents of your retroarch.cfg in plain text
trimmtrabbParticipantTest the pads with: jstest /dev/input/js* (where * is the index assigned to the pad)
trimmtrabbParticipantSee a few posts above, you don’t need to edit rc.local. Mame4all-pi isn’t a retroarch core, and you cannot edit its controller config like retroarch.cfg, you need to press tab in MAME and set the controls in there. If Emulation Station recognises both pads then they have been loaded, check with ls /dev/input/ there should be two ‘js’ followed by a number. I have no idea why Mame4all-pi isn’t recognising both of them, could be a power issue, what is your setup?
trimmtrabbParticipantlol forgot to paste the link oops..
trimmtrabbParticipantThis thread may help you: https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/wrong-aspect-ratio-on-sega-cd-games/
trimmtrabbParticipantIt’s easy to set your own controls, connect a keyboard and press tab in MAME to bring up the GUI
trimmtrabbParticipantOh right, that’s strange! I think you can save a config from the Retroarch GUI, you may need to create a file somewhere first i’m not sure.
trimmtrabbParticipantHi, if you place a retroarch.cfg in /opt/retropie/configs/megadrive/ you can create custom controls for the megadrive that will override the default retroarch.cfg in /configs/all/
Use jstest to determine buttons:
jstest /dev/input/js0
(try js1 if js0 doesn’t work)
trimmtrabbParticipantHi, this thread may help you, specifically post #8
trimmtrabbParticipantBest to ask these questions over at their forum: http://www.solid-run.com/community/index.php
trimmtrabbParticipantPSX emulation is right on the limit of what the Pi is capable of so emulation isn’t perfect. Metal Slug runs nicely on MAME though
trimmtrabbParticipant
Same issue with me.
Installed the SD card image successfully on my new Pi, and connected it to my ASUS VG248QE and also to my Samsung UE55C8790 via HDMI cable.
The Pi is letting me configure my USB XBox Controller and I can select the preinstalled games and my SNES Roms.
But as soon as the games have started, I can select nothing or do nothing anymore.
Batman for example starts the demo stages, but the only thing I can do is pressing the ESC button on my keyboard to get back to the GUI….I have spent hours reading in this forum without success.
What am I doing wrong?
Hi, try this:
sudo chown pi /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg cd /opt/retropie/emulators/RetroArch/installdir/bin sudo ./retroarch-joyconfig -j 0 >> /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
If -j 0 doesn’t work try -j 1
trimmtrabbParticipant
Hi Everyone. I lurked around this forum and it’s been very helpful. I followed these instructions to setup Retropie on my raspberrypi:
http://lifehacker.com/how-to-turn-your-raspberry-pi-into-a-retro-game-console-498561192
I want to introduce my 3 year old to old NES games. Everything went well until I tried to play a game on NES. As soon as I choose any of the four NES games I’ve installed I lose my signal and I can’t do anything except press some buttons to eventually get back to the prior screen. I can choose any of the preinstalled systems (Apple, IBM) w/no issue but when I choose NES games it loses signal.
My setup is via HDMI to a year old Panasonic plasma TV.
I’ve read some things on here that describe issues w/signals but most seem to discuss component video which I’m not using.
I’m just not sure where to start and while I’m comfortable following step by step instructions such as on Lifehacker I know my limitations and w/out seeing something right on point I don’t want to do damage to the raspberrypi that I can see is SO CLOSE to letting me have some fun times w/my son playing NES together.
Help is appreciated.
Thank you.
Gabe

Hi, firstly try a different rom to rule out the rom being the issue. If that doesn’t work edit es_systems, copy es_systems.cfg from /etc/emulationstation/ to /home/pi/.emulationstation/
Then edit in terminal:
nano /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
Navigate to the NES section, change runcommand from 4 to 2. Ctrl x and y to save. Then reboot.
trimmtrabbParticipantIf you’re transferring via wifi try ethernet instead
trimmtrabbParticipantThe config location has changed in RetroPie 2.x, now located in /opt/retropie/configs/
