The initial setup I had was done by someone else so it’s very possible they enabled it and I didn’t notice. But I’m glad I figured it out because it’s working MUCH better now!
tpr70ParticipantActually, I think I found a solution that has worked in about 99% of the games I was having trouble with.
In the advmame-1.4.rc settings there was this option:
display_vsync yes
and I changed it to:
display_vsync no
That seems to clear up a lot of the sound issues without distorting anything else.
tpr70ParticipantThank you!
tpr70ParticipantControls, yes. But some of the games you have to “press 1” on the original console’s keyboard to start the game, and I’m trying to do a stand-alone RetroPie without a keyboard, so I want to be able to map that key to a button on the controller.
tpr70ParticipantRE-installing worked! Another question – Is there any way to map some of the keyboard keys to controller buttons? I want to map the “1” key to one of the buttons on the control pad, but I can’t find anywhere in any of the documentation on how to do that.
tpr70ParticipantIs /_SYS_/ a hidden directory? I don’t seem to have that anywhere on my RetroPie install.
tpr70ParticipantLooks like I just found it.
In advmame-1.4.rc display_magnify was set to “auto” when it needed to be set to “1.” Here’s the settings I am using now:
display_magnify 1
display_magnifysize 640
display_mode 224x 256s 1.00×1.00This gives a more “pixelated” look like it was in the original arcade and doesn’t “smooth out” the edges like the other option did. It’s a personal preference thing.
tpr70ParticipantThat worked! Thank you! I’ll paste the instructions here so that anyone searching will know:
Do you have this line in your advmame.rc file
misc_quiet yes
And in RetroPie that file is located here: /home/pi/.advance
tpr70ParticipantSo has no one ever recompiled it and posted the file for others to use?
tpr70ParticipantTo be honest, I’m not sure because someone else set this up for me, but I’d have to imagine it’s whatever the latest version is. The system I have is made for the CV controller, but I did unplug the USB to CV controller adapter and put in a normal USB NES controller and I was able to play CV games just fine. The Start button seemed to be mapped to the “1” key on the keypad so I could at least start all the games that required a number push from the keypad to get them going.
tpr70ParticipantUsing the CoolCV emulator. Here’s the link: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/240800-coolcv-emulator-for-mac-os-x-linux-windows-and-raspberry/
I think I now have most of the issues sorted out just by trial and error. I’m super impressed with MAME on the Pi although I get a strange error when running Bagman as it tells me the “Sound Emulator cannot be started” and then it crashes. I’m using AdvanceMAME. Any ideas?
tpr70Participanthi fella, have you looked here?
Yes, of course. Unfortunately, it doesn’t answer any of the questions or issues I have.
tpr70ParticipantBeen messing around with configs and other settings and I’m still getting the same error with Stella and I can’t get any roms from systems like NES or SNES to show up in Emulation Station.
Looks like I’m running RetroPie 3.18.7-v7
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
