As for my part now. Smithers, i want to run my uploaded image of Blood.wad with retroarch gamepad settings (not ZBlood). What is the .sh file i have to alter? Doom 1 shareware.sh?
Hi.
You need to copy your ‘Blood.wad’ file into
/home/pi/retropie/roms/ports/doom/Blood.wad
then rename the lr-blood.shh file to lr-blood.sh (as usual, remove the extra h). It should then show in emulation station and link up with a screenshot. Make sure the case of your wad file is exactly ‘Blood.wad’, not ‘blood.wad’ or ‘BLOOD.WAD’ etc.smithersParticipant
Do you have a config ex. A, B, L etc that I can copy/duplicate manually??
I’m afraid I don’t. You will need to either go through the motions in the Emulation Station ‘Joypad Setup’ script, or edit the es_input.cfg file manually. Please bare in mind that the es_input.cfg file requires keyboard characters to be entered in using their ‘key code’ (for want of a better term). What I mean is that it won’t accept for example ‘W’ ‘S’ ‘A’ ‘D’ as ‘up down left right’, you need to find the key code that corresponds to the ‘W A S D’ keys and enter them. Here is an example of my own es_input.cfg file but please don’t be tempted to copy this as it will not be what you need (I created it for a wireless air mouse / keyboard / remote combo):
<inputConfig type="keyboard" deviceName="Keyboard"> <input name="up" type="key" id="1073741906" value="1"/> <input name="right" type="key" id="1073741903" value="1"/> <input name="down" type="key" id="1073741905" value="1"/> <input name="left" type="key" id="1073741904" value="1"/> <input name="a" type="key" id="13" value="1"/> <input name="b" type="key" id="1073741925" value="1"/> <input name="start" type="key" id="1073741926" value="1"/> </inputConfig>
Those long strings of numbers are key codes that were interpreted by Linux from my remote. Yours will be different no doubt.
Honestly – your best bet is to plug in the keyboard and set them up through the GUI. That way the settings should be carried through into Retroarch too for the libretro emulators, preventing you having to set those up manually too.
Good luck!
SmitherssmithersParticipant
Hello Smithers,
how to enable this feature?
RetroPie_OpenELEC_Dual-Boot_v7.1_SS
Hi.
Bring up the Emulation Station menu (normally by pressing ‘Start’ on your controller), go to ‘UI Settings’ and set ‘On-Screen Help’ to ‘ON’.
I personally prefer it off as my pads don’t have buttons ‘A B X Y’ (they are PS3 pad style), but to each their own!
All the best.
Stevep.s. don’t touch the theme whilst you’re in there or you’ll lose my extra system additions! Leave the theme as ‘ss’.
smithersParticipantQuick video showing the triple-boot in action:
Soon as I sort out that persistent black box around Cario Dock then I’ll get this packaged up and uploaded. I know what the problem is and how to fix it but it re-appears on every reboot of Raspbian. If I can’t fix it then I’ll ditch Cairo-Dock – its not a necessity.
Feedback on theming welcomed – I made the Raspbian RetroPie logo myself as there isn’t an actual logo to be found. :/
Anyways, I’m off to bed. Another late one! :s
smithersParticipant
1) I think one browser is enough (the most light, stable and quick one-i think is chromium?). I dont know if it plays flash content though..
2) I think it should be released with ‘minimal’ build, and then we can add whatever addons we want:)
Just my though
I agree on both points. I prefer my minimal build of KODI and like you say the option is there to add whatever you want – you can even install the beast build yourself should you so desire.
smithersParticipant
Hi,
For anyone that can answer.
I’m trying to setup one for my friend and he will be using a *Rii mini Qwerty wireless keyboard* so I’m trying to MAP it for retropie gaming.
Do anyone have a recommendation/listing for what buttons I should put for a particular function.
It would be much appreciated for some assistance in that area.
Thanks in advance.
Hi.
You could do this, however I can only imagine it would be very poor to use as a controller! I have a similar keyboard so I think I see hwere you’re going with this, and it should be possible, but in practice I think you’ll find it won’t be suitable.
I would strongly recommend a real pad instead!
All the best.
StevesmithersParticipant
Id be interested in the Raspbian Triple Boot – for me Id just need a good browser (preferably Midori & Chromium), file manager, Python and preferably office. Using a 32gb SD card so im more thanok with using more than 2GB space if needed.Quick question – I know we aren’t supposed to change the Kodi theme or the build messes up. Are we ok to add and remove add-ons as normal though?
Hi.
Thanks for your input. I am currently installing Libre Office into the build – hopefully it runs ok in Raspbian but we shall see! Its quite large in size @ around 300MB though. :s
*EDIT – hmm, libre office didn’t install for some reason. Said I was missing some files. I will investigate further, unless there are any other office versions that work and are maybe lighter? OpenOffice?
I have also installed Chromium web browser, but is there a valid reason to have more than one? (i.e. Chromium and Midori?)
I will install a file manager (I presume the file manager included is not very good since you’re asking for a different one?). Do you have any recommendations on a good program for this?
Python is already installed as standard, is it not?
I also intend to install a program dock of some sort – I have read Cairo Dock is meant to run ok – any comments on that (or alternatives that run well?).
As for KODI – feel free to install whatever addons you want, it will work like a normal build does so no worries there. The only thing you can’t do is change the theme -unless- you know what you’re doing and want to change to another theme that supports custom scripting. Personally I like the Aeon theme anyway so don’t see the need for any changes? I used to be set in my ways on the standard Confluence theme but now I can’t get away with it at all!
All the best.
Stevep.s. Im not sure what KODI build to release with the triple boot – Beast Build or My build? Any preference?
smithersParticipant
Hello Smithers,

You need any special setup to be able to operate the PS3 gamepad?
Thank you very much for the great job you’re doing for us.
There is a world of difference between v1 and v7.x! Chances are I left some of my own controller configs in v1 by mistake which have now been removed.
You need to do any controller set up yourself, I can’t apply a catch all controller setup or I would have already.
smithersParticipant
beast build doesn’t works.
I try a lot of times to format sd card in FAT32, then put all noobs files content in sd card (root) but when i turn on raspberry pi2, black screen and no green led.
I’m afraid you are mistaken, the beast build works fine, if you read just a few posts above you will see that others have got it running fine so please don’t post such statements as “beast build doesn’t work”. If its not working for you then its something wrong at your end that you need to try and fix yourself.
I’m trying to make this process as simple as possible for people to set up but I can only help so much, there is always an element of learning and troubleshooting for yourself. Indeed that is the whole intended purpose of the Pi – a learning tool.
smithersParticipant
My thinking is that the shutdown / reboot menu options have to be a script themselfs to send the shutdown / reboot commands in the background. It should be simple enough to add in another menu option to run a script file or chain of commands in the skin layout itself, but thats a bit over my head at the moment.
Its probably a bit beyond my expertise to be rooting around in Python scripts and changing them. I didn’t know a single thing about Python until yesterday haha! If someone knew where the scripts where held then I’d be happy to have a play around though.
smithersParticipant
I have been playing with rasplex the past few days since I have a synology NAS that I just installed the Plex media server app on. On the background image, i would not change it since it loads in a picutre based on the movie/TVshow you have brought up. for TV shows it will download the theme sound for the show and place it in the following directory /storage/.plexht/userdata/ThemeMusicCache I have downloaded 3 songs and the largest one was 909Kb. All the thumbnail images get downloaded to /storage/.plexht/userdata/Thumbnails ive got about 2.5 TB of movies and TVshows and my thumbnails folder comes out to 86,400Kb. So it does download some contect to the image. I do like the interface in RasPlex better than the PleXBMC addon for openelec but unless you can add more programs/addons to RasPlex I probably dont see myself using it unless it is in a triple boot system where I have openelec to stream and the RasPlex to view my home content. Granted I am working with 64Gb samsung EVO micro SDS card so haveing a dedicated 1 to 2GB partion for RasPlex doesnt bother me to badly.
Thats my limited experince with Rasplex.
If I knew more about noobs, creating the tar.xz, and scripting process I would make the Retropi/Kodi/Rasplex myself. With a baby due any day now i dont have much time to sit and read up on all of it.
I just watched your video on youtube and noticed you changed the theme in Rasplex, is this to make it so your script will show up? If there is any possible way to keep the default theme that would be awesome.
Thanks for your reply, so it sound like metadata is saved to the pi then which is mainly what I needed to know. Thanks!
I think therefore a 2gb partition would be safest, or perhaps 1.8gb at a push. As standard out of the box it is only using about 300mb-ish so that would allow plenty space for metadata IMO.
I have removed all of my own fanart already as I decided to set it up and noticed it does display fanart based on your media, so that’s cool but thanks for confirming.
As for the skin – I’m afraid I can’t leave the standard skin applied as it doesn’t support custom Python shortcuts like the Aeon skin does so there would be no way to launch RetroPie. :( There may be other skins that keep more in line with the original theme and allow custom scripts but I’m not aware of them and they are not as straightforward to apply as what KODI is. I will keep looking though.
As for triple boot – I can’t see any issues in having a Plex / KODI / RetroPie triple boot. If folk would like it then I can probably knock it up?
All the best.
SteveP.s. congrats on the baby! ;)
smithersParticipantQuick post before I go to bed. Just to say I have the triple boot up and running and it works a treat. Was a lot easier than expected.
I just need to create a proper raspbian logo and theme for RetroPie and it’ll be ready. Before I make a tarball of the raspbian image, please let me know what programs you want pre-installed. Not too many please, just the bare essentials.
In the meantime I am still awaiting a reply on what partition size to allocate RasPlex – can someone who knows please reply? I have this ready to upload, just need to know the right size to apply! Here is a video of it in action in the meantime:
smithersParticipantPlease read r.e. the RasPlex build!
Ok I’ve had lots of issues and learning to do in regards to getting the OS switching script to work in RasPlex, but it is finally working! :)
So before I release a build I have a couple of questions for any seasoned Rasplex users out there, because I have no knowledge of Plex and have no desire to use it in the future so don’t want to waste too much time in exploring it myself:
1) How big should I make the RasPlex partition? The tarball I created from it is pretty small, around 320mb for the ‘storage’ partition, however this is before any user content has been added. I need to know – does RasPlex store all scraped art, info etc. on the Raspberry Pi or does it store it alongside the media location, i.e. on your NAS Drive etc.?
2) As far as I understand it, home screen menu items will appear when you sign in to Plex and you can immediately browse through your pre-set movies / tv shows / music collections. What I need to know is, what would you like to see as ‘standard’ home screen menu options when I release my build? As standard it is showing the following:
– Search
– Watch Later
– Channel Directory
– Games (my Python RetroPie launcher script)
– Settings
– ShutdownAre any of these useless and can be removed or would you rather I kept them in (or added more?).
3) Backgrounds – as standard, the skin has a plain black background and looks boring, so I set a slideshow of movie / TV show images for it instead. Now I am wondering if this will mess things up for when you add your user content on there (my thought process being that maybe it shows scraped movie art, music art etc. when you link it all up?). Can somebody just tell me whether I should leave this blank (as standard) or add in my move art slideshow (the same one I use in my KODI build).
4) Should I release this in a separate post, so not to get lost in this thread? Just thinking that some folks who want a RasPlex / RetroPie setup may miss out if they are not following this thread?
……. thats all I can think of for now. I have this set up and ready to go and can confirm it works a treat, I just need to know answers to the above before releasing it as I dont want to have to keep amending and re-releasing it etc. when I have no real interest in RaspPlex myself! I would much rather have a seasoned user(s) opinions than dictating the look and feel of it myself.
Cheers.
StevesmithersParticipant
Hi Smithers,
These are all GREAT and so are you. Can’t wait for the triple.
Just one question:
1) Which controllers/keyboards are already map to your image??You are doing an amazing job.
Thanks again for everything that you are doing.
haha, thanks, I try my best! :p
I don’t map any controllers or keyboards to my images, they should be ready to set up from scratch with your own personal controller choice. I thought about going down this avenue, but it is not such a straightforward thing to do unfortunately, and it would take too much time for me to set up. Also, I only own a Thrustmaster T Mini Wireless and PS3 pad myself, and I don’t fancy forking out for Xbox pads etc. :o
So in regards the triple boot – I have some questions about it:
1) How much space would be reasonable to allocate to Raspbian? If the intention is only to use it as a web surfing, file editing, proof of concept type thing then I would say maybe only up to 2GB? I guess what Im ultimately asking is – what are you going to use Raspbian to do? Maybe then I can use my own judgement.
2) Handling the OS switching – so its self explanatory with RetroPie and KODI (have a dedicated home page menu for both), however in Raspbian, I can only think about placing shortcuts on the desktop which will run my scripts. This gives the potential of the shortcuts being deleted of course, so I wonder if there is another way that I am maybe not thinking of?? Anyone have any thoughts? I can probably implement them into the start menu, so theres one option.
Please let me know what you think and I will take it from there.
All the best.

OK folks, new build is ready! Here is the first on offer:
RetroPie v3 (my build)
OpenELEC v14 – Beast BuildThank you Smithers!!!
You’ve made my day (more like the whole weekend!)
Cannot wait to get it up and running on my Pi2.
You’re welcome – hope you enjoy! Let me know how you get on, I’m always keen to hear if it works for people at their end like it does mine!!
All the best.
StevesmithersParticipant
Smithers
Can you upload only the
– ZBlood and
– Dinothawr files?I assume it is a copy-paste only thing – into ports folder?. Or are they hardcoded into the new image?
The Dinothawr installation was not so straight-forward with it being a libretro module, so I will find the link that described how to install it and edit this post to share the link.
Zblood can be ran via the ZDoom port that you should already have from my previous build. All you need to do is download the mod files, place them in the zdoom folder in /roms/ports/ and make a script to run it – I recommend copying one of my pre-made scripts for Brutal Doom 2, just replace the .pk* files with the necessary one needed for ZBlood.
smithersParticipantRetroPie + OpenELEC (my build) links:
MEGA:
[link removed]
smithersParticipantAs for the RetroPie changes in v7.2 – see below taken from my ReadMe file:
v.7.2
* Corrected filepath errors in my aspect ratio switching script which I stupidly overlooked in the last build(s). Controllers should work 100% now and apologies for the mistakes!!
* Added a few more games to Ports:
– Rise of the Triad
– Adventures of Square
– ZBlood
– Dinothawr* Added Floobs’ Video Manager script, so you can now easily enable scanlines
etc. should you so desire – see FLOOB github page (link at the bottom of this readme file) for full instructions on how to use this as I could not incorporate it into the settings menu* Compiled (via RetroPie setup script) 3 new arcade emulators and added them all into my ‘Arcade’ system as emulator choices (they will also work in their original rom directories too):
– lr-mame2010 (based on MAME 0.139)
– lr-mame2003 (based on MAME 0.78)
– lr-FBA-Next (based on MAME 0.161)Some notes in regards to Rise of the Triad – I found 2 versions of the game that work on the Pi; one version where game controllers do not seem to work, another where they do work. Now in the version where game controller does work, it does not seem compatible with the shareware version of ROTT, so therefore I have had to use the version that does not work with controllers for the shareware ROTT that I included. I have however also included the ‘working controller’ version ready for you to use with your full version ROTT game files.
I am just letting you know this in case it put you off trying the full version of ROTT due to controller issues, however I can confirm the full version I compiled runs excellent with control pads! :)
smithersParticipantOK folks, new build is ready! Here is the first on offer:
RetroPie v3 (my build)
OpenELEC v14 – Beast Build
Please be aware the ‘Beast Build’ requires a 2GB partition!!]link removed]
The ‘Beast Build’ contains every addon you could ever want or need, so if you want it all – go for this build, otherwise await my next posts for different builds, as below:
RetroPie + OpenELEC – My ‘minimal’ build, for those who prefer the minimal look but still with the best available addons
RetroPie + RasPlex – For those who use their own media server, rather than an internet streaming solution. **I am still testing this build but so far it is working**
RetroPie + OpenELEC + RaspBian Triple-Boot – ….maybe. I’m exploring options, but after I finished the others above.
Please be aware the beast build contains adult addons! :o
smithersParticipant
Smithers,
Anything with adding “Raspbian or similar OS”, I’m not sure how to go about it. Really need some help/instructions on “HOWTO” if possible on how to add “Raspbian” to your image.
Thanks again for the GREAT work.
Is on my to-do list. I’ll see what I can sort out and let you know.
smithersParticipant
I assume that this kind of “problem” is <linked> to the small psx intro video (the one that is launched right after the retropie script inside kodi). This video also has black vertical bars. And ES continues to have black bars.
So..maybe your psx video is the problem here? Is it in 720 or 1080p?Or maybe a wrong aspect ratio? Thanks
haha, trust me – the video isn’t the problem. It is simply an aspect ratio thing. I encoded the video @ 1080p, so it is hardcoded at that resolution / ratio. The problem lies in your TV’s inability to stretch the 1080p image to its own native aspect ratio, it would seem. I say problem, but its not actually a problem, more of an annoyance for you. Unfortunately Im unable to help further though – you need to find a setting in ‘config.txt’ that works with your display. The 16:9 aspect ratio I set as standard in my builds is the most common display standard around these days – it would make no sense for me to make a change to that as the majority of folk would be affected negatively by it (including myself).
Have you checked for a ‘zoom’ or similar button on your TV remote? You can often cycle through different aspect ratios that way. Other than that then Im afraid I can’t really help you.
smithersParticipantOK so I’ve had a number of people asking for a RetroPie / Rasplex dual boot image and I think I may have figured out how to do it. I was struggling for ages trying to get my script to run but then I realised that Rasplex wants Python scripts, not bash scripts! So a quick crash course on Python scripting and I have a very basic script that seems to work. 8-)
I know nothing about Rasplex, literally nothing, so could do with some advice on a couple of things by a more seasoned Rasplex user. OK so firstly, from what I gather, Rasplex is not about using internet streaming addons (like in KODI), rather it is for playing your own personal media from say, a NAS drive or the likes – correct? So this being the case, I’m guessing that there are no addons or extras that need installing and what you get ‘as-is’ in a fresh copy is all you need to get going – is that correct?
Now I have had to install a different skin to enable custom scripts (Aeon, of course!), and what I am left with is a very basic looking home screen with only the following options available:
Channel Directory
Search
Games (links directly to my script)
Settings
ShutdownI need someone to tell me if there is anything else I would need to add to make it ready for you to set up. I have not registered for a Plex account or set up my NAS drive (to keep it clean before I make a tarball of the install), so when I click on ‘Channel Directory’ nothing happens. Can someone advise what is meant to happen?
I don’t know, I was kind of expecting to see the normal ‘TV Shows’, ‘Movies’, ‘Music’ etc. but its just not there so looks very basic and Im not sure if it just magically springs to life once you connect your account and NAS drive up.
Anyway, like I say I have my script working so I can offer this as a dual boot option now, I just want to make sure it is ready to be released in its current state or whether I need to do some more work on it.
Any Plex experts out there reading this? :?:
smithersParticipantI do believe that is the correct way to do it yes, but you may want to do a trial run first if you had a spare SD card as Ive never done it myself?
smithersParticipant
That’s good news!
We are keeping our fingers crossed for the next versions..
Another question that came to my mind: Is there any way to only update the retropie image – when a new update of yours is going to be released?
I have setup my openelec build as i want – and it was a pain in the ass (as i had to manually add some favorites etc). So i dont want to re-install both images from the beggining.I am using the usb installation method though..
Yes I realise it is not feasible to do a full install *every* time, however I look upon 7.2 as the first build to not contain bugs, hence why I am holding back on releasing it until its all tested, as I don’t expect to be releasing a new build for a while in the future (until the next milestone is reached in RetroPie for example). That being said – there is a backup option inside OpenELEC which will save your current setup as-is to a tar file. You can then copy this tar file over into a fresh build of OpenELEC and it should theoretically become an exact copy, addons favourites everything.
You can do it by copying the actual files off the SD card as well, if you have linux, but I would recommend going down the backup route instead.
smithersParticipant
What do y mean by “Un-enabled?”. With an shh extension on the script?
Exactly that yes. I will name it ‘lr-blood.shh’ whereas the Zblood variant will be named ‘ZBlood.shh’.
On the subject – if I knew how to do it I would create my own advanced script where it would present a series of options to allow the ‘enabling’ of these ports etc. but I am not clued up in Linux enough yet to be able to create such a script so the end-user has to do it themselves manually. :/
smithersParticipantahh ok, well I will leave an ‘un-enabled’ script in there for you if you wanted to try it out. The gamepad works yes, as it uses the normal retroarch setup.
I have just installed and tried Zblood and that seems to work fine so I will include that in my next build too, however it requires a full version of ‘doom2.wad’ to be able to work.
smithersParticipantOK, I just tried it and it works, however I notice that the Blood weapons and HUD are not included, so I guess this isn’t a total conversion and it is just maps and some monsters, or am I mistaken? Also, instead of the robed characters being in the game I notice there are characters from Wolfenstein!?
I know there is a Zdoom Blood mod available, which is a total conversion – would it be better to include that or do you think this modded wad file is better and I’m just not using it properly?
And finally – is the wad file a direct hack of the original doom.wad? If so then I probably can’t include it for copyright reasons, however I could leave a script in there ready to be enabled should anyone want it? (same as how I do for other ‘full version’ games).
smithersParticipant
Thanks Smithers again!
Unfortunately i do not remember the download site for my *wads. What i remember is that i created them (with patcher.exe). Thesy also needed prboom.wad and Doom.wad i think..I use them with retroarch (windows7) and prboom_libretro.dll and they work..I just told you in case you could revive them in linux
Anyway, the real thing i am facing now is the black vertical bars (right and left) when i am launching retropie from inside kodi. These bars remain on my EmulationStation menu (where the emulators are). Any ideas why? My tv set is 21:9 aspect ratio and i assume the problem relies in there..
My tv here : http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/cpindex.pl?ctn=56PFL9954H/12&mid=Link_FAQs&scy=GR&slg=AEN
I’m not familiar with modding wads in that way I’m afraid so Im not able to test this out. If you were able to upload the wad files somewhere then I can certainly take a look at adding them in? Let me know.
Definitely sounds like your TV is the ‘issue’ here (not so much an issue but a compatibility thing). You might want to try changing the resolution in config.txt on the retropie boot partition. If OpenELEC is displaying ok then tThat would suggest your TV is happy with 1080p, so try changing the retropie resolution to the following, which is 1080p:
hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=82
There are loads more resolutions to try though – see below link:
http://elinux.org/RPiconfig#Video_mode_options
You can also change the aspect ratio inside the main retroarch.cfg file to suit your TV. If you edit the file you will notice that in the ‘aspect ratio’ section I have included (but commented out) a number of different aspect ratio codes – you can try one that works best with your TV (if it is a problem).
Good luck!
StevesmithersParticipantIt takes a lonnnnggg time to compile however its working great at my end – was a nice surprise, along with Mame 0.78 and lr-FBA-Next!
All the best.
StevesmithersParticipant…..I see there are a few new additions to the RetroPie Setup Script you may want to check out!
lr-MAME2003 (0.78)
lr-MAME2010 (0.139)
lr-FBA-Next (based on MAME romset 0.161)Happy days! I am installing now and will test some roms when its finished compiling! I’m sure I shouldn’t build my hopes up too much, after all it is still a Raspberry Pi and not a cutting edge PC, however even if it just adds a few more playable games (or improvements to existing games) then thats great!
smithersParticipant
Smithers thanks for your quotes!
1) I have some tweeked .wad files at your disposal (blood.wad too, which is based on doom version) in order to check them out. Here is a list to check :
http://www.2shared.com/photo/hTlCRwiQ/Untitled.html
(if you want i can provide you with those files). They work with the prboom_libretro.dll in both my windows and android machines. So i think you may try them!
2) Look what i found (http://creep.sourceforge.net/). This is the classic c64 game Castles of Dr.Creep. Can you import it in next versions alongside with dinothawr?
3) I used sudo nano /boot/config.txt, but can see nothing inside this text (null text). Is it normal? Should i only add my overcklocking values? (e.g arm_freq etc). Any “stable” oc values without sd card corruption? What i want is stability (first of all :P)
4) What is the path for the already downloaded scraper images for the games in “ports”? (duke nukem, quake, doom, etc.). I just want to delete/modify them!
Thanks!
Hi.
1) Do you have a link for those wad files? I assume they are mods as I don’t think prboom supports the ‘real’ wads for those games?
2) I’m not familiar with that game personally, however I’m not actually sure if there would be any value in adding it as reading the website page it states you need to have a copy of the original game to be able to play it. That means I can’t include it as a ready to play port (for copyright reasons).
3) hmmm, that means that it hasn’t opened the file and instead it is creating it, hence it is blank. Can I check what system you are in when typing that – RetroPie or OpenELEC? The OpenELEC file is located at /flash/config.txt and the RetroPie file is located at /boot/config.txt but you need to be in the appropriate OS at the time to be able to edit it like that.
4) The path is the same as the original paths – /home/pi/.emulationstation/downloaded_images/ports/. I would say there is no need to delete any files (as they are only small), however if you want to delete or change them then make sure you look in the gamelist.xml file to ensure you are targeting the correct file – I haven’t necessarily named them the same way as the scraper would so don’t make a guess without checking!
Cheers.

Also as I ask before
Wanted to also know a few things:
1) If you have a list of roms for each emulator that works well with your build, especially for psx and gameboy advance and snes. I tried mario kart but can’t recognize the writing so can’t choose the proper options but the game play it self was good. So if possible will be great if you can give some game choices.2) How do you exit a game/emulator to return to to retropie main screen. Do it have a button function? I’m doing this by pressing “start and select”.
3)Will the Logitech rumble pad control work well with it. I wanted to get one of those.
4)Last but not the lease, connecting a “3.5” TFT LCD Touch Screen Module 320*480 RGB Display”. Would it work and if yes, how to get it to work.
You are Great and all this is wonderful and amazing. Keep up the good work.

Hi.
I do have a list yes – I included it in earlier releases but I also think I attached a rom list somewhere in this thread too. If you can’t find it then let me know and I can do another directory print of my roms. As for Mario Kart 64 – if you use the libretro N64 emulator (which I believe is used as standard), then yes the picture will be garbled in the menu screen. If you use a different emulator for that rom then you will find it works fine throughout (press ‘x’ when loading the rom to get into the emulator choice menu).
The ‘exit emulator’ key is ‘start+select’ as standard yes, and also <Esc> on the keyboard. You can set it to whatever you want but I think you need to edit the retroarch.cfg file to do that. Also bare in mind that not all emulators use retroarch / libretro so that config file does not cover all emulators, just the most common ones. You will find some of the ports need configuring via their own setup files / menus, for example.
Sorry but I don’t know about that joypad, but I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work. The rumble feature may not work though (it doesn’t with my PS3 pads), so if there is a ‘non-rumble’ version for cheaper then you may want to opt for that instead. I mainly use a Thrustmaster Mini T Wireless which does the job nicely – if anyone wanted the config files for it then let me know and you can have them to save you a long winded job setting them up!
I can’t see any reason why a 320×480 screen would not work but I have never tried this so Im not really the right person to ask! One thing I will say is that you will have to adjust the resolution to suit the screen (I have set it to 720p for RetroPie and 1080p for OpenELEC). Also, I notice there is an official Raspberry Pi touch-screen that has been released today which I think is 800×480 resolution. Might be better to go for that for maximum compatibility.
Good luck!
StevesmithersParticipant
Hello Smithers,
can you please upload it somewhere only yours files 16:9 / 4:3 retroarch.cfg, original retroarch.cfg, videomodes.cfg?
Hi.
I have attached the files for you. Just replace the existing files in the /home/pi/.ss/ folder and you’ll be good to go!
smithersParticipantSounds to me like a folder permissions thing. If you go into the RetroPie Setup Script you should find a ‘reset ownership of roms’ (something like that). Run that and it should fix the permissions to your rom directories.
Its easy to mess up directory permissions in Linux, especially if copying files from a Windows machine. If the RetroPie script mentioned above does not work then you may need to do it manually via the command line but try the above first and see how you get on.
smithersParticipant
Hi again,
Is there a way to add another OS to it, just like on the openelec menu and retropie menu, eg Like Raspbian or RaspEX which is really more for basic functions and Web surfing purposes.
IF yes, how can one go about it leaving the smooth transition of the build. Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I think you should be able to install Raspbian inside the existing RetroPie partition, which would mean that a triple boot would not be needed.
If you really did want a triple boot, then yes, I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t have that – it would just mean sacrificing some SD card space and creating a new script for booting into the correct partition. I would however recommend just going down the ‘install Raspbian in the RetroPie partition’ route, then adding in a simple script that executes ‘startx’.
