redhaloParticipant
That is insane. How did you make the enclosure, 3d printed?

I’m focusing entirely on the Pi2 at the moment but it should run on anything supporting OpenGL ES2. I’ll make it compatible with OpenGL 2.1 before release so it can be used with desktop GPUs.I’ve only tried it with SNES games but it’s a Retroarch shader and so should work with emulators supported by that.
It probably won’t make a good solution for all systems. It’s been designed to work within the limits of the Pi2. Faster GPUs will be able to run more complicated shaders – and multi-pass ones which are performance killers for the Pi. It will probably be good for other mobile GPUs.

I assumed Pi2 as well. I was asking about testing on heavier retroarch cores not that I thought it wouldn’t work with them, but that the cores may already be close enough to the limits of the Pi2 that this shader would bring the fps unusably low. Although I think the SNES core may actually be one of the heavier ones already.redhaloParticipant@davej: That shader looks great for running on a Pi at decent speeds. Are you testing it with more heavier systems, mame games perhaps? It’d be great if it could be the end all solution to getting a consistent nostalgia look to all retroarch systems.
redhaloParticipantThat’s not how ports work. The Quake source code had been released and made public for some time for people to make ports of. Goldeneye isn’t and likely never will be.
redhaloParticipantI don’t have kodi on my pi, but try editing /roms/ports/kodi.sh and replacing
/usr/lib/kodi/kodi.bin --standalone &
with/usr/lib/kodi/kodi.bin --standalone --mimic-xpad &
redhaloParticipantOh man, the cuddleburito. I have a laser cut project of my own waiting on a few parts. Your website was an inspiration when I was researching designs. I hope to be able to post picks of mine soon, I handled the corners in what I feel is a unique way so that there are minimal screws and they are rounded.
redhaloParticipantDid you expand the file system?
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/First-Installation#expand-file-systemedit: Dank is quicker than I.
redhaloParticipanthttp://wiki.thegamesdb.net/index.php/API_Introduction
thegamesdb.net has an api, sselph’s scraper uses the api.
redhaloParticipantThe “complete pack” is thegamesdb, the scraper is what we have now. You are literally describing the current use case.
redhaloParticipantWell, there isn’t complete info for all games. These sites being scraped are still constantly being updated. A “community driven open contribution wiki” is exactly what these sites are. The solution you describe is exactly what’s in place.
redhaloParticipantUSB 2.0 is supposed to max out at 500mA, 3.0 at 900mA. The recommended power supply for a Pi2 is at least 1.8A. Incidentally, because of these standards many cheaper/older micro-usb cables don’t use thick enough wire to handle enough current for the Pi, creating a possible situation where you have a 2A wall charger but are still power starved.
This is dumb that it is this way and very difficult to figure out unless someone tells you. I wonder if there was a way to tap into the alert on a Pi2 and present a more meaningful message than a rainbow square. I almost feel as if this info should be presented when setting up Retropie.
redhaloParticipantDid you read the readme at https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-Retrogame ? Outside of that, you’d probably get a better responce asking over there.
redhaloParticipantJust so you know, shaders will never help speed the game up. It’s best to not use them at all unless you have some processing headroom.
10/30/2015 at 18:32 in reply to: SUGGESTION: attact-mode front-end as an alternative to emulationstation #108819redhaloParticipantI dicked around with attract-mode about a year ago when I was trying to get a streamlined emulation setup on my PC. Back then at least, making themes was not for the faint of heart, but was super powerful to do some cool stuff once you dug into the scripting. Retropie is actually what took my interest away from attract-mode. It would be cool to get it added to Retropie.
redhaloParticipantThat is seriously cool. If I were to guess, you have a background in pc case modding as well?
redhaloParticipantIt’s outside of my knowledge, but potentially one could use imagemagick to automate the combining of images into one. Something that would be cool in sselph’s scraper.
redhaloParticipant[quote=108057]As per usual you were completely right Mr. Floob.
Pressing Select (Coin) + X (Top button) brought up the RetroArch Menu, under Quick Menu in the Core Settings, there was the option I was looking for!
Found a whole lot of other interesting stuff in there as well!
Thanx again!

Is that working for you? I tried switching to aes and it crashes back the ES for me.
edit: Figured it out. My copy of neogeo.zip needed aes-bios.bin to be added to it.
redhaloParticipantAre you using a Pi 2? If so, are you seeing a rainbow box in the corner of the screen? If so, then you don’t have enough power from your power supply.
If thats not it, are you using and shaders, have you changed the default configuration at all?
redhaloParticipantI cant say I’ve run in to any problems with defaults. What issues are you having?
redhaloParticipantOh wow, I used to play a ton of this on the N64 and was unaware this was ever on the pc. Would be cool to get this ported over.
redhaloParticipantA quick google search shows people having trouble getting those two games to run at full speed or at all. It may be user error though, using the wrong romset or something. Best bet is to try it yourself assuming you have a pi.
redhaloParticipantIf I’m using scanlines, then blurry.
redhaloParticipantWhat are you trying to play? It’s been my understanding that actual DOS has never supported more than two controllers.
redhaloParticipantTo remove systems from the menu, remove the files from their respective rom folder. To add systems, add roms to their respective rom folder.
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/How-to-get-ROMs-on-the-SD-card
redhaloParticipantI have just recently recieved the mausberry circuit myself, but have not yet used it so I’m just assuming here. You need to install the script, it’s what sends the shut down commands to the os. Also note that GPIO 23 and 24 are not pin 23 and 24, that seems to be a common mistake as well.
redhaloParticipantI know this one, just posted about it this past week trying to figure out the same thing. The hdd isn’t being mounted correctly to allow exec privilages no matter what you chmod. Edit /etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf and remove the noexec parameter, then reboot.
redhaloParticipantAre these mame roms? If so, what are their file names? If not, take wizards advice, or you could also try this as it should make a game list from the hash of the file rather than the name.
redhaloParticipantYou can also edit /opt/retropie/configs/fba/emulators.cfg and make sure change the default in there. The line should read ‘default=”lr-fba”‘.
redhaloParticipantI plan on getting my hands dirty with dosbox as well soon. Seems like your going after a similar route of a controller only appliance.
redhaloParticipantNo fstab entries. Just delete the default rom folder, plug in a usb external hdd, and symlink the rom folder from the hard drive to where the old folder was as outlined here: https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/usb-rom-storage-curiosity/#post-88737
There’s no need to permanently mount it, as long as it’s plugged in it’s mounted and the roms are pointed to the right place.
I have 45gb of roms at the moment with more expected to be added, and would rather not have to readd them or keep a backup elsewhere for if/when I wipe the sd card for future Retropie images. Also, no microsd card on the planet can hold all of the Playstation One images. A potential side effect is the external hdd is faster than the microsd, but I couldn’t tell you if it has made a difference.
When I was searching for how to keep my roms on the hdd, it seemed to be fairly commonplace.
redhaloParticipantFound the problem. Following a post by user dplcc68, I found out that Retropie does not give exec privileges to mounted drives. Solved it by issuing a “sudo mount -o remount rw,exec, users, auto /media/usb”. I’m going to add a bug report to git.
redhaloParticipantFurther testing, complete wipe and reinstall, I found that the scripts just don’t work if they are on an external hdd with the roms folders symlinked in place of the default rom folder. Same scripts, same permissions as the default install.
Can anyone else with an external hdd symlinked confirm? Or perhaps any ideas?
