You can exit Emulation Station by pressing F4.
The possible keyboard inputs are described on the repository site of Emulation Station at https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation#configuring.
petrockblogKeymasterI have added the PC emulator “rpix86” to the RetroPie Setup Script a few minutes ago.
petrockblogKeymasterNo worries :-)
petrockblogKeymasterGlad to hear!
Did you also set up the music already?
petrockblogKeymasterGlad to hear that!
Did you already have a look at http://wiki.eduke32.com/wiki/Joystick_setup for the joystick issue?
petrockblogKeymasterI do not have any experience with Emulation Station and RetroArch in portrait mode. Maybe someone else here?
petrockblogKeymasterI used gog.com for buying “Duke Nukem 3d: Atomic Edition”. For some reasons, 3drealms.com showed problems during the payment process in my case.
The Windows installation contains a file “DUKE3D.GRP”. This file has to be copied into the directory [pre]/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/duke3d[/pre] To be able to start Duke3D, you also need to have educed installed. If it is not already installed, you can do this by starting the RetroPie Setup Script, choose “source-based installation” and de-select everything except Duke3D.
I hope that helps!?
petrockblogKeymasterHere is the image from the post above:

petrockblogKeymasterI am not sure, but maybe the nice tutorial at https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Setting-up-the-XBox360-controller might help here.
petrockblogKeymasterI am also no expert for all the user mods. However, I have a file “Doom.WAD” and a file “Doom 2.WAD”, which can simply be copied into the roms/doom directory to be ready to use.
The music files for these games must be configured/installed somehow different, maybe someone else could explain this here?
petrockblogKeymasterWhat is the exact error message?
petrockblogKeymasterThanks!
For the sake of completeness, that article is also referenced from the according article in the wiki.
petrockblogKeymasterGlad to hear!
petrockblogKeymasterMaybe I should add LXDE back again to the SD card image!? I have removed it to save some space.
petrockblogKeymasterI have not yet spent much time with that. But detailed information about the Intellivision emulator can be found at http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=185323&sid=8ce0649addbda371cce34b295381715c#p185323.
petrockblogKeymaster
No luck. Does everyone who wants to control their emulations ration menu with their player 1 controller have to go through these steps? I assume I am missing something obvious here. Should I just start from scratch with the latest image?
I am afraid that using the latest image won’t help here.
- You have to configure Emulation Station for your joystick: Therefore, a screen in Emulation Station will pop-up at start after a gamepad has been recognized for the first time. The settings for Emulation Station are then saved in the file /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_input.cfg.
- You have to configure RetroArch for your joystick. Please refer to https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki for questions about specific controllers.
- If you are using SNESDev, make sure that you are using exactly the pins as described at https://www.petrockblock.com/2012/10/21/the-retropie-gpio-adapter/!
- If your controllers for player 1 and 2 are swapped, another option (compared to the ones stated above) would be to change the settings in /home/pi/RetroPie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
Unfortunately, setting up the controllers for your RetroPie system heavily depends on the very specific hardware setup of the individual users.
petrockblogKeymasterDo you also observe this when the USB controller is not connected to the RPi?
petrockblogKeymasterAfter re-compiling SNESDev you need to copy the binary into the directory /usr/local/bin/. You might need to stop the running service “SNESDev” before, which you can do with
sudo service SNESDev stop
After copying the newly compiled binary to that location mentioned above, restart the SNESDev service with
sudo service SNESDev start
petrockblogKeymasterYou need to post those suggestions to Aloshi at Github. He maintains the repository of the front-end “Emulation Station”.
petrockblogKeymasterWhich Genesis game are you trying to start in particular? What is the file name of the ROM?
petrockblogKeymasterThanks for adding that article!
petrockblogKeymasterYou can find the RetroArch joystick config utility in ~/RetroPie/emulators/RetroArch/tools/.
petrockblogKeymasterYou need to swap the data connections of the controllers (hardware solution) or to swap the pin assignments for data 1 and data 2 in SNESDev (software solution, https://github.com/petrockblog/SNESDev-RPi/blob/master/src/main.c#L321)
Hope that helps!?
petrockblogKeymasterYou need to delete ~/.emulationstation/es_input.cfg and restart Emulation Station. A screen should appear that allows you to configure ES for your first game pad.
petrockblogKeymasterDoes the wiki at http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/GnGeo2x contain helpful information for us as well? It seems as if there also some compatibility lists for GnGeo-0.7. Information about BIOS files handling are also provided.
petrockblogKeymasterThe snes9x can only be controlled with the keyboard, right?
If it could be controlled with a game pad I could add it to the RetroPie Script.petrockblogKeymasterI also had and still have problems with this as well. I had to to try out some different BIOS archives and various ROMs until I found “supported” versions. The universal BIOS and Metal Slug 1 and 3 work for me.
petrockblogKeymasterGreat!
You are invited to add this information to the wiki :-)
petrockblogKeymaster
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=25163
That looks really interesting!
I have just asked in that thread how to set up a joystick for that. Do you have any experience with that?
petrockblogKeymasterSo far, we do not have it. I used IRC very little so far, do you have experience in that and know how to set up such a channel?
petrockblogKeymasterUPDATE:
I have just updated the RetroPie Script and added the libretro version of NXEngine. How come that I did not know this game before? It looks awesome!
Update your version of the RetroPie Script and you can install NXEngine in the source-based installation.
Enjoy :-)
petrockblogKeymasterUnfortunately, I do not have an XBox controller, so I do not have any experience with setting up xboxdrv. However, there is an an article about that in the wiki. Also, every input device that represents itself as a gamepad/joystick to the OS can be configured wo work with RetroArch and the other emulators that can be installed with the RetroPie Script. Also for that issue exists an article in the wiki.
Currently, NXEngine cannot be installed by the RetroPie Script. There are ports of NXEngine for the Raspberry, however, and if you know of a reliably and satisying working version, I would be glad if you point me into that direction :-) It would even be better, if you could come up with a pull request for the RetroPie Script at https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup ;-)
petrockblogKeymasterYes, it is possible.
There is an article about that in the wiki. The RetroPie Setup Script enables this functionality for SNES controllers connected via the GPIO adapter in this part of the script.
Hope that helps!?
petrockblogKeymaster
Hello!
This is my first post, so first thank you for your great project!
But i have some problems:
Me only nes, snes and psx works.
I would like to get the mame or neogeo (for cadilacs and dinosaurs) and scummvm (for monkey island) to work.
Whats the difference between mame and neogeo?
I emulatorstation only read exe for scummvm but the only monkey island versions i found are zip file that contains no exe.
I hope someone can help me, and sorry for my bad english.
Currently, ScummVM does not directly start a game, but only the ScummVM Launcher. I just tested it: You can add a file “Start.exe” with the command
touch ~/RetroPie/roms/scummvm/Start.exe
and (re-)start Emulation Station. Now, the ScummVM Launcher appears in Emulation Station and can be started. You add each game for ScummVM directly from the ScummVM Launcher. To make sure you have all files needed for a game, you can check the site at http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Datafiles.
In order to play NeoGeo ROMs, you need to copy a BIOS file into
~/RetroPie/emulators/gngeo-0.7/neogeobios7
Until now I got MetalSlug 1 and Metal Slug 3 to run, but I did not try out many games. There are different MAME emulators that can be installed with the RetroPie Script. Each MAME emulator is configured as an individual system: iMAME4All shows up as “Mame” in Emulation Station, GnGeo as “NeoGeo”, and Final Burn Alpha as “Final Burn Alpha”. They are all MAME emulators (if I am not mixing things up right now) and you have to try out which emulator does its jobs best for your ROMs.
I hope that help!?
petrockblogKeymasterI tested the PSX core with Ridge Racer 4. At least that one works for me with sound and with an ok frame rate. Besides that I have not looked at other PSX games yet.
