How can I get ES to use another MAME emulator? I see advanceMAME was installed (from the tutorial) but there is no where that says how to use it over imame4all.Also, when I checked the es_systems.cfg, I noticed the alternative run commands were there to uncomment to use other emulators (ie, piNES) but there was no alternative line for advancemame.

I do not know AdvanceMAME very much.
Here is my debug.log After re-install, still same thing. Mame/Neo-Geo/GBC/GB roms will not work. I have GBA working now, thanks for the help with that.
Not sure what I am doing wrong…
Maybe try some different GB and GBC ROMs? Also, I unzipped them to make it work.petrockblogKeymaster
Ok, i’ll give that a try.
I have the neogeo bios, does it stay in .zip or does it get uncompressed?
I uncompressed it to make it work for me.petrockblogKeymasterThanks a lot for this detailed post!
Regarding the point about getting ROMs on the Pi without a network connection, I have just updated the corresponding article in the wiki: https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/How-to-get-ROMs-on-the-SD-card#using-usb-sticks
It is possible to get ROMs on the Pi with a network connection :-)
07/03/2013 at 21:37 in reply to: RCA Video – Blank screen after launching any ROM (NES or SNES is all i have) #2345petrockblogKeymasterI know that this is a much discussed issue. My final goal is to have someone propose a fix for the shell script “runcommand.sh” (https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/blob/master/supplementary/runcommand.sh). The script is supposed to automatically detect whether HDMI or composite video out is used so that the manual switching from argument “1” to “2” is not necessary anymore! I do not have a composite screen – that is the only reason why I did not do that on my own yet.
The line https://github.com/petrockblog/RetroPie-I am quite sure that the line Setup/blob/master/supplementary/runcommand.sh#L10 is the critical one.07/03/2013 at 21:18 in reply to: RCA Video – Blank screen after launching any ROM (NES or SNES is all i have) #2341petrockblogKeymasterEveryone is invited to do some systematic tests for the RetroPie installation under various conditions and to find a fix for the composite problems: https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Compatibility-Sheet.
petrockblogKeymasterI just tested the GB, GBC, and GBA emulators. They all work for me (with HDMI video output). In case of the GBA emulator (“GPSP”), you need to put a BIOS file into
/home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/gpsp/raspberry
. See also https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/The-gpSP-Emulator.petrockblogKeymasterSNESDev (https://github.com/petrockblog/SNESDev-RPi) implements a virtual keyboard that executes the shutdown command when pressing the button of the RetroPie GPIO Adapter five times. Maybe you want to have a look at the sources of SNESDev.
petrockblogKeymasterYou might need to do some more steps. Try and look for a Vice tutorial, e.g., http://www.youbioit.com/es/article/shared-information/2225/tutorial-commodore-64-vice-emulator. I cannot remember the exact steps to start a program.
petrockblogKeymasterThat is absolutely correct.
petrockblogKeymasterPlease report all your fixes at the Github repository at https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/issues?state=open. You would make things most easy for me, if you could create a pull request there.
petrockblogKeymasterIn the best case the RetroPie installation works for both video outputs. The problem is that I cannot test the composite output and anyone has posted a pull request for the RetroPie Script at https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/issues?state=open that is supposed to solve this issue. Posting such things at the Github repository is essential for that.
petrockblogKeymasterYou should be able to change to the second terminal via Ctrl+Alt+F2 for debugging etc.
You might want to report this issue at the Github repository.petrockblogKeymasterThanks a lot for that! I already put that information into the Wiki at https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Intellivision-Emulator :-)
petrockblogKeymasterGlad to hear!
petrockblogKeymasterI cannot reproduce this. Using SD-card image 1.6.1 I am able to start x86rpi from Emulation Station (connected via HDMI).
petrockblogKeymasterRegarding the ROMs and controller issues I would suggest to have a look at the wiki, https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki.
petrockblogKeymasterFirst of all, I would try and test everything without the USB controller being connected.
petrockblogKeymaster
burnt the 1.6.1 image to sdcard last night, added streets of rage 2 rom, and worked with dgen no issues atall, over hdmi, composite still doesn’t work ;(
Did you enable Dispmanx for DGEN? It comes precompiled with 1.6.1, but it is not enabled in the es_systems.cfg.petrockblogKeymasterDid you use version 1.5 or 1.6.1?
petrockblogKeymasterFor the sake of “completeness”: The SD-card image comes with the over clock settings “medium”:
“900MHz ARM, 333MHz core, 450MHz SDRAM, 2 overvolt”
petrockblogKeymasterAre you using HDMI or composite?
petrockblogKeymasterThe exact command to view/edit the ES systems configuration would be “nano /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg”.
petrockblogKeymasterpetrockblogKeymastern.t.
petrockblogKeymasterSNESDev and the gamecon driver must not run at the same time! Also, SNESdv currently does not support NES controllers out-of-the-box (although this will change in the near future). Thus, I would recommend to use the gamecon driver only.
petrockblogKeymasterThere is a post about exactly that topic at http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=29927.

petrockblogKeymaster
didn’t want to make another thread but ive found another issue i can’t seem to get around, certain roms missing from the list on the emulator. I have a 79 roms and only 58 available on the emulator list all the same type of file unzipped etc whats causing this issue?
Maybe this is a bug of Emulation Station. You might want to report this at https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation/issues?page=1&state=open.petrockblogKeymasterI have updated the image for the last few hours (the uploads takes quite a while). Version 1.6.1 is online now – feedback about the image would be great!
petrockblogKeymasterYou need to edit the file /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg.
petrockblogKeymasterI did not work on a workaround for that issue yet. Maybe someone else can help here?
petrockblogKeymasterSuper Mario All Stars is a bit of a speciality here: https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Does-Super-Mario-All-Stars-work%3F
petrockblogKeymasterDid you try the two one liners mentioned at https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Video-Issues?
petrockblogKeymasterThe gamecon driver is hosted by the developer Marqs. Maybe he is restructuring it or something.
If you have the RetroPie GPIO Adapter I would suggest to use SNESDev (and only SNESDev, so that it does not interfere with the gamecon driver). You can use the RetroPie Script to enable and configure SNESDev from within the “Setup” menu. See also the thread at https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/snes-gpio-setup-help/.petrockblogKeymasterOk, I just found a bug in the runcommand.sh script.
Please use the updated version (https://raw.github.com/petrockblog/RetroPie-Setup/master/supplementary/runcommand.sh) and replace the one at /home/pi/RetroPie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh.
