petrockblogKeymaster
yes sorry.
petrockblogKeymasterduplicate /opt/retropie/configs/all/nes to another folder /opt/retropie/configs/all/fds – and edit the emulators.cfg to include just that one emulator. then in the runcommand line in es_sytems.cfg, use “/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ fds %ROM%”
petrockblogKeymastersorry correction, this monitor is 5:4 not 4:3
petrockblogKeymasterIf the game was originally meant to be more vertically stretched and displayed at 4:3, then there is no quick fix due to the modifications in the retropie version – it assumes square pixels and only offers a few scaling options. I added some workaround for games like blasteroids where you can choose a doubled y ratio to fix it. I could perhaps add some additional video ratios. Final fight looks fine though on my screen.
petrockblogKeymasteron my system (4:3 monitor), the game final fight has some black bars at the top/bottom of the screen. This is correct, as it due to the resolution of the game vs my screen resolution (and the aspect ratios). if it filled the screen vertically, it would look stretched.
is that what you mean ?
petrockblogKeymasterwhich version of retropie?
can you give an example game ?
need more info!
04/28/2015 at 04:25 in reply to: how can i stop configs being overwritten/updated after binaries update? #96334petrockblogKeymasterSome work was done recently to avoid overwriting configs. However, shader paths will still get updated – that needs sorting – please open a ticket on github and I’ll sort it.
petrockblogKeymasterthe folder should be called “retropie” (lowercase – some filesystems are case sensitive). This is detailed in the changelog for 3.0 as well as on the wiki
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/How-to-get-ROMs-on-the-SD-card
petrockblogKeymasterI would say that the main differences are that
– the ControlBlock also contains a power switch functionality
– the ControlBlock is an extension board for the RPi and directly communicates with the RPi via some of the GPIO pins and not, like the Ipac, via USB. Whether this is beneficial or not for you depends on your preferences. There is also a video on the ControlBlock page mentioned above that shows the use of two arcade controller sets with the ControlBlock.
petrockblogKeymasterThe ControlBlock is an option for a bartop project: https://www.petrockblock.com/2014/12/29/controlblock-power-switch-and-io-for-the-raspberry-pi/
04/19/2015 at 21:38 in reply to: Pi keeps crashing on boot after ControlBlock software was installed. #95650petrockblogKeymasterShould work.
A quite raw way for testing the power switch behavior of the ControlBlock is to just connect the two button pins with each other. This signals the ControlBlock that the switch is turned “on”. When the RPi has booted you can then disconnect the two pins and you should see the RPi being shutdown by the ControlBlock service.04/19/2015 at 21:28 in reply to: ControlBlock Goes Super Nova when plugged in, as well as other problems #95647petrockblogKeymasterSorry to hear that! Sounds as if there was/is a short circuit somewhere in your setup. All ControlBlocks are tested for proper functionality before they are shipped.
You could use a multimeter to be sure which pins to use of the button and to see where the short circuit is located.petrockblogKeymasterRegarding the wiring you need to make sure that pressing the arcade buttons pulls the GPIO pins of the ControlBlock to GND.
With the ControlBlock service installed you can check the functionality via the tool “jstest” as described at https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/snes-gamepad-does-not-work-using-controlblock/#post-92250. Does this give you an helpful hints?
04/19/2015 at 21:12 in reply to: Pi keeps crashing on boot after ControlBlock software was installed. #95643petrockblogKeymasterGlad to hear that!
Could you post a one or two pictures of your setup here? Maybe we can see what might cause the switch behavior.04/18/2015 at 18:30 in reply to: Pi keeps crashing on boot after ControlBlock software was installed. #95549petrockblogKeymasterAccording to the screenshot, the system is not crashing, but shutting down properly (from an OSs point of view).
You need to connect a toggle switch when then ControlBlock service is running. Otherwise the ControlBlock gets a random toggle switch signal.
petrockblogKeymasterI am happy about any suggestions for some organizational restructuring! Which forum organization would you propose?
petrockblogKeymasterDone.
BTW: You can report a user if you think that it is a spammer/splogger. This makes things much easier for keeping the forums clean.petrockblogKeymasterhttp://ar.c64.org/wiki/Action_Replay
http://ar.c64.org/wiki/Retro_Replayyou can “insert” roms for carts like this within vice – giving you the additional features of having a cart plugged in, such as built in fast loader.
petrockblogKeymasterget the NTSC version of the game rather than the PAL version.
petrockblogKeymasterif the game doesn’t use any fast loaders, you can also fiddle with the drive emulation modes in the configuration. Another thing to do, is to use a actionreplay/retroreplay rom, so you have a fast loader by default (you can save the default setting with an cart plugged in, then you will get faster loading speed).
petrockblogKeymasterYou mean your controller or the adapter?
petrockblogKeymaster[quote=94273]From the official ppsspp git reporitory, https://github.com/hrydgard/ppsspp/issues/7479

So, it still does not seem to work, does it?petrockblogKeymasterJust in case you have not seen it already: The ControlBlock (https://www.petrockblock.com/2014/12/29/controlblock-power-switch-and-io-for-the-raspberry-pi/) was also designed as combined controller and power interface for bartop arcade systems. There are videos at the end of the post about the ControlBlock – they show the usage with arcade controllers as well as the power switch functionality:
petrockblogKeymasterOf course, there is also the ControlBlock (https://www.petrockblock.com/2014/12/29/controlblock-power-switch-and-io-for-the-raspberry-pi/) that also could take care for safe shutdowns :-)
petrockblogKeymasterMaybe you could post a picture with your hardware setup here?
petrockblogKeymasterGlad to hear it is working now!
petrockblogKeymasterWe had trouble with the downloads plugin. The download links have been restored now: https://www.petrockblock.com/retropie/retropie-downloads/
petrockblogKeymasterthe #include is not commented out – it should work with the # in front (like a #include statement in C)
petrockblogKeymasterThis is mentioned in the changelog for the beta1 image (it’s worth reading through the changelog to see highlights of changes etc).
petrockblogKeymasteryou need to make an initial “retropie” folder on the drive. This was changed from previous releases, so that users who don’t want the sync functionality can easily avoid it.
petrockblogKeymasterit is in the changelog, but wasn’t moved out of experimental until just after the image was done. if you update the script it will be available in menu 5 (install individual emulators from binary or source)
petrockblogKeymasterThe driver takes care for that – you do not have to program the RPi in any way.
petrockblogKeymasterGood point – SVG would be ok as well. But I would like to decide that from logo to logo …
petrockblogKeymasteri see. We might need to change that then. previously we were using appendconfig to add the additional configs. now it’s included, we don’t want it to be overwritten with a complete config I guess. I’ll open an issue.
petrockblogKeymasterceuse – it’s not completely clear from that issue title etc that it is the same problem, but yeh you have already reported it. Hopefully Aloshi will have more time for emulationstation soon.
it’s also possible the gameslistdb branch will help with this (or not).
