Ahh… I should have probably worded my post a bit better – I can’t tweak things like that (I have no coding skills). All I can offer is tweaks to existing functionality Im afraid. Or adding ports that are not included in the Retropie setup script as standard. The requests you have (which would be very useful), would need to be made by the developers of RetroPie Im afraid. Not sure if its something thats on the radar already?
I might be wrong but since the code from recalbox is publically available ( https://github.com/digitalLumberjack/recalbox-os/releases/tag/v3.2.11 ) it might be ok to take some parts of it for your own image
here’s the Wiki: https://github.com/digitalLumberjack/recalbox-os/wiki

So I think I may as well just upload v4 since there have been no calls for changes / improvements / bugs – what do you think?
a while ago I tried recalbox ( http://www.recalbox.com/diyrecalbox ) and while it is a stripped down retropie (e.g. some emulators are missing) there are some things I would love to see in your image:
-) in recalbox when you configure a controller in emulationstation you are being asked for a special key as well… this key is being used to enter the retroarch menu (and probably some other emulator configurations as well)… so you don’t need to remember any button combinations to enter the emulator configuration
-) I have a wired xbox 360 controller and a (wireless) PS3 controller and so I installed the xbox 360 and the sixaxsis driver in retropie… I ended up having the xbox 360 controller being the player 1 controller and the PS3 controller being the player 3 controller… I really had a hard time to fix that – and I finally did by removing a (not connected) second xbox controller (from /etc/run.local) so the PS3 controller was the player 2 controller again… in recalbox there’s a nice menu in emulationstation where you can define what player is being controlled by what controller
-) in recalbox you can select your language, so you don’t need to use english if you aren’t a native speaker (like me) :)

mjfoxParticipant
Ahh well spotted! Yes I wouldn’t have had those issues with my games – hexen and blood!
Do you happen to know any speed tweaks that can be gained in dosboox? I really really want Blood to run well on the Pi.

did you try to increase the frameskip? you can do this by pressing CTRL-F8

So I have had a look into this and found that it is working fine, i.e. I am able to launch an .EXE file straight from the emulation station front-end and it works as it should. I tested this on Blood and Hexen and both booted straight up (however Hexen wouldn’t play on DOSBOX, only RPix86).What happens when you try exactly, like do you get an error message or anything? And what game is it you are trying, I will see if I can re-create it at my end.
Also – have you tried running them in RPix86 instead? I found it to be more compatible for sound than DOSBOX (only tried those 2 games though!).
ok, I tested this again and I found the reason why it works for you and not for me: I put the game in a folder called “Star Control 2″… if I put the game in a folder called “StarControl2” it works, so it looks like you are not allowed to use spaces for it to work!
mystery solved :)
thanks for all your efforts!

thanks for all your efforts, they are really appreciated
so far I only testet with DosBox and Star Control 2: http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/144/Star+Control+II.html
I can not test it out right now, but when i tried to run an .EXE file, the console appeared with just:
======================
and after a few seconds I was back in emulationstation again… there was nothing in the logfile after that (it was just empty)
when I run the +Dosbox shell-script from the emulationstation it worked, but I ended up being on drive Z without drive C being mounted
I will try again when I’m at home and tell you exactly how to (hopefully) reproduce it
maybe I mistyped the name of the dosbox shell-script (when I changed the extension from shh to sh)?
mjfoxParticipant@smithers: could you maybe have a look into the dosbox-scripts? I’m pretty sure that in the latest retropie version it was possible to launch exe-, com- and bat-files from the emulationstation… but when I try to launch such a file dosbox gets launched but nothing else happens, especially the c-drive doesn’t even get mounted so you have to do everything by hand
cheers

mjfoxParticipantthe new version works really well, thanks a lot smithers!
there’s just a problem with dosbox: if you select IBM/dosbox emulatorstation tries to run
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pc/+Start DOSBox.sh
but the script is named
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pc/+Start DOSBox.shh
not a big problem, I just changed the name and it works now… I just couldn’t get dosbox to run any exe-files I select from emulatorstation, I had to select Dosbox from emulatorstation and then navigate inside dosbox to the directory and run the desired exe-file… maybe anybody knows how to fix that?
mjfoxParticipantsmithers, your post made my day, thanks a lot!
mjfoxParticipantok, I tested the image a little more and I found some problems (some of them were already mentioned):
1.) it’s not possible to resize the partition
2.) each time retropie launches it asks for the controller configuration
3.) if you launch any console command (for example the file manager or the ip configuration) and go back to retropie again you end up with no controls
4.) no samba share (to access the ROM directories)2.) und 3.) can easily be fixed by copying es_temporaryinput.cfg over es_input.cfg

mjfoxParticipantthanks a lot for all the hard work that went into creating this image
I too run into the problem with expanding the filesystem
also I can not connect my bluetooth keyboard
I followed this guide: http://www.correlatedcontent.com/blog/bluetooth-keyboard-on-the-raspberry-pi/ … but for some reason it just doesn’t seem to work (I tried to use it in the file manager)… the keyboard works fine with the latest retropie image
any ideas?
