Hi – sorry about the late reply.
I use the following, all with the default MAME mappings
Player 1 Start & Coin
Player 2 Start & Coin
6 x Action buttons
Happ Trackball
JoystickAll into an iPac2 controller.
Works fine with SNES, Neogeo etc – not had any problems with it yet.
lamaman1971ParticipantI’m using an iPac2 with traditional arcade controls – so not sure about a dualshock 3 to be honest! Sorry!
lamaman1971ParticipantHi – Im using both advanceMame and Mame4All – works on both. Im using the latest 3.3 RetroPie and am interfacing with it with an iPac2 keyboard controller – as below :
5 – Insert Coin
1 – Start
Arrows – Move
Ctrl – Action Button 1
Alt – Action Button 2
Space – Action Button 3
Mouse – Analog Control (needed for some games)
P – Pause
ESC – Quit MAME
F2 – Service Mode
Tab – MAME Options MenuUse the Tab key to remap the keys if they dont suit your chosen controller.
lamaman1971ParticipantOk, sorted this out. So for those of you struggling with it or contemplating using a trackball heres how to get it working reliably. Its all down to the config file for advanceMAME in the hidden .advance directory : /home/pi/.advance/
Pick the config file for the version your using (or edit both)
device_mouse raw
device_raw_mousedev[0] /dev/input/mouse0 (or whatever your trackball is assigned to – mine was mouse1)
device_raw_mousedev[1] auto
device_raw_mousedev[2] auto
device_raw_mousedev[3] auto
device_raw_mousetype[0] ps2
device_raw_mousetype[1] pnp
device_raw_mousetype[2] pnp
device_raw_mousetype[3] pnplamaman1971ParticipantHi Folks, as there hasnt been much response on this Ill look elsewhere. Im assuming other folks here have had some success with trackballs and advance mame though? What does your config look like?
lamaman1971Participantand the documentation is here : http://www.advancemame.it/doc-advmame
lamaman1971ParticipantYeah! well, it will do for now. My USB speaker bar fits great into my bartop too – so if anyone has a fix for it Id be glad to hear about it. However, I can get my mame fix for now at least!
lamaman1971ParticipantOk, so removed the ASLA config and disconnected the USB Speaker. MAME4All starts working again and my roms spring back to life – as the other emulators seemed to work ok within the RetroPie environment I can only assume this is a “feature” of MAME4All. Hope this thread is useful is someone else is having similar issues – plus, if anyone has a resolution to this let me know!
Thanks everyone in this thread for the help and advice,
Ciao
Mark
lamaman1971ParticipantOk Gents, heres the plan for the weekend :
1. Reset the ALSA changes and see if Mame springs back to life – if it does then Ill try troubleshoot it. However, im not spending too much time on a $20 USB soundbar – Ill replace it with a regular speaker if I need to.
2. If it doesn’t work Ill reload Mame4All – any tips on how to do that discretely?
lamaman1971ParticipantBelow is the content of my runcommand.log file :
ALSA lib pcm.c:7431:(snd_pcm_set_params) Rate doesn’t match (requested 44100Hz, get 0Hz)
/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh: line 704: 2451 Segmentation fault /opt/retropie/emulators/mame4all/mame $so it looks like my USB audio “fix” may have screwed up Mame4All…meh
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
and changing this : #options snd-usb-audio index=-2 to options snd-usb-audio index=0Anyone seen this before?
lamaman1971ParticipantResolved this by making adjustments to the configuration : MISC_SAFEQUIT = no
Easy!
lamaman1971ParticipantWhich version of Mame? I cant get Mame4all working at all – games appear to load but then it bins me out to the menu again. Worked better in 3.0 for me too. AdvanceMame seems to be ok – lr-mame works but stretches the screen wide (havent had time to sort that out yet).
lamaman1971ParticipantNot sure, Ive gotten UAE4ALL working and running R-Type without any problems. I have my kickstart ROM in the same folder as my RTYPE.ADF – but not withstanding that the Emulator should at least load up to the GUI. Is there some kind of output log inside the emulator folder you could take a look at??
Does it drop you back to the menu or just lock up the screen?
lamaman1971ParticipantNah, I cant find any evidence of a runcommand.log file on my PI – so I can only assume one has never been written. Im starting to think about writing a new SD card from afresh of the latest RetroPie image and testing again – which is a pain in the backside to be honest….microsoft fix I know, but there is little information or diagnostic data available to make an informed decision on this.
lamaman1971ParticipantWell, ive been trying to use mame4all-pi. I have a complete compatible romset but when I select a rom, rather than either loading up or dropping out with the old missing files error screen, the game appears to be loading up on then bins me back out into the menu system again, no errors or anything. Really odd.
lamaman1971ParticipantCheers – that link was great. Sound working just fine now over USB!
lamaman1971ParticipantTo clarify, the other mame emulators work ok!
