Steam games can be streamed through limelight to the pi. Lookup limelight in the forum.
kmhamelParticipantI use berryboot 2.0. Everything goes on the hard drive except the boot data.
Harddirve is much faster than the SD card.
I have all 2000+ mame games, 1200 psx games, All the Snes and All the Nes collections on the harddrive and no problems. Still loading more from my main arcade.
kmhamelParticipantkmhamelParticipantThanks
kmhamelParticipantI did a full binary install of 3.0 up from 2.6 and mame4all could not find the roms. mame4all-libretro could find and run them no problem. My roms are on a harddirve, I use berryboot. I gave up trying to fix the problem and just got the new 3.0 image, made a berryboot image and installed that. No problem now, mame4all now works great. Something must be off in the binary install (I tried it twice).
kmhamelParticipant
Hey Guys,
I think/know that this Problem occures to quite a few people : After you exit Kodi you come to a blackscreen
I used the “normal” Script to start kodi via Emulationstation:
#!/bin/bash kodi-standalone
After some Googleing a found the following script which should solve the Issue.
Sadly doesnt work and im wondering if anyone can help me out / figure out what (i added the Emulationstation part (last 2 lines) myself but im far too bad in Linux / Python to figure out where i go wrong.LOG_FILE=$HOME/.kodi/temp/kodi.log rm $LOG_FILE 2> /dev/null /usr/lib/kodi/kodi.bin --standalone & while [[ ! -f $LOG_FILE ]] ; do sleep 1s done while read line ; do if [[ ${line} =~ "application stopped" ]] ; then echo "Killing kodi" break fi done < <(tail --pid=$$ -f -n0 $LOG_FILE) killall kodi.bin fbset -depth 8 && fbset -depth 16 killall emulationstation /opt/retropie/supplementary/emulationstation/emulationstation
Anybody can help me out? i think alot of Ppl would love a working script for this.
Yes I tried this one also, didn’t work for me either. I found this, but haven’t tried it yet.

Looks like we just have to wait until the fix is added to the repository.
kmhamelParticipantHere’s an update: Playon works really well and even streams in 720p.
If you want to turn your Pi into an entertainment center, so far this is the way to go.
kmhamelParticipantWell after working on this for the last couple of days and not finding a solution, I decided to bite the bullet and give up on the full binary upgrade and just use the new 3.0 image.
Loaded it up in berryboot and vola my mame roms work again using mame4all.
Man it’s just going to be a pain to load all the psx roms.
Hopefully the next upgrade goes smoother. :)
kmhamelParticipantbump
anybody? buzz?
kmhamelParticipantOk, I put all my mame roms in the mame-mame4allfile. These roms are for mame4all and worked under 2.6. They all fail.
Here is what is in the log file:
(process:2795): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_key_file_free: assertion ‘key_file != NULL’ failed
If I go under ‘m’ and pick lr-imame4all the rom will run. If I switch back to mame4all it will fail.
any ideas?
kmhamelParticipantWell……since the binary is offered in the experimental section of retropie_setup.sh……
What do you think of Steam games (limelight)…..retro?
To answer my own question, Playlater works great, res is HD and streams very well. As for Playon, I will give it a try as soon as I get the MPeg license.
The only problem so far is that Emulationstation goes to sleep when you are watching a movie. When you exit out of kodi you just get a black screen and have to shut down the pi and restart.
kmhamelParticipantMy ps3’s are wireless and work with all the emulators so far. I assume that you went through the setup for each controller in retropie_setup.sh? I don’t turn on my controllers until emulationstation boots. The only app that I haven’t gotten them to work in is Kodi.
kmhamelParticipantWhen you use clrmame, rebuild using non-merged sets. Than you can manually remove all clones from your rom file.
kmhamelParticipant
I think I have finally been able to get both of my controllers now connecting at boot. I did pretty much what was detailed in this thread. My one question is about the red lights on my PS3 controllers. They both show as #2. Is that normal? I would think that I should have one as #1 and the other as #2, no?
UPDATE: Just after posting this I tried a game and I don’t have any controls working even though both controller at boot are found as Bluetooth controllers. This is very frustrating. I am rebooting again and see what the deal is.
I had the same problem. Turn on your controllers one at a time. Don’t turn on the second until the first is booted. Do you have any other usb joysticks installed taking up the js0 position. I had a encoder board that would take up the js0 position and the ps3’s would take the js1 and js2 position (player 2 and 3 on the leds)
kmhamelParticipant
Right, I’ve just tried again to update from 2.6 to 3.0, using the updated script you mentioned in the post #92853. I updated all the emulators I use including retroarch and emulationstation. All emulators which do not use retroarch seem ok. I didn’t use my old configs at all.
The following libretro cores work ok:
lr-imame4all
lr-nestopia
lr-snes9x-nextI cannot get lr-picodrive, lr-prboom, or lr-fba to work. I did not even update lr-prboom with the latest binary. It was working fine under 2.6 and now not under the retroarch which has been installed under 3.0. Loading a rom with picrodrive or lr-fba returns a Segmentation Fault.
What now?
Just a thought: Check the /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg.
Look up your emulator in es_systems.cfg and make sure the rom file matches with where you stored your roms.
kmhamelParticipantThat’s great, simpler than I thought it would be. Just rename my rom folders. I don’t use the usbromservice since I have a rom folder on the harddrive.
Since this will be a full install I assume I’ll have to do the second ps3 controller fix.
kmhamelParticipantI too would like to update 2.6 to 3.0 using the binary. My system runs on a hard drive using berryboot. In a comment above, it was stated that if you updated using the binary you would not get all the effects of the upgrade and the rom files would not be cleaned up.
So my question:
1) what do I need to do to manually clean up my rom files after I upgrade.
2) what do I need to manually change to get the full effect of the upgrade.Thanks
kmhamelParticipantThanks, everything is going great and your graphics look wonderful.
I stopped using the 360 controller in favor of the ps3 just due to the size of the receiver. The Bluetooth makes it so much more compact.
Right now kodi just works with a keyboard, if you find a way to map the ps3 controllers to a keyboard as you did with the 360, now that would be great.
Good work
kmhamelParticipantFinely got a chance to try out the setting. Mupen still sees the encoder as a joypad even with the mode set to 0 and a name change in mupen64plus.cfg. With the encoder taking up the js0 spot, the playstation controllers take js1 and js2 the games see js0 as the first joypad. I just might have to wait for the controller block to start selling again.
kmhamelParticipantSound like just what I need. Thank You,
kmhamelParticipantOk so even if I go with the mame keyboard setting the control block will still take up two of the js (js0 and js1) slots. It won’t be mounted as a keyboard.
kmhamelParticipantWatch the video, will answer all your question about hotkeys. Worked great for me. you don’t need to setup a two buttons for a hotkey on a controller but you should. It’s two easy to press one button when in the action.
kmhamelParticipantTried powering up the other controllers first but the pi seems to do the usb connection before the blue tooth connections. I might have to move to a more expensive keyboard encoder since it wont bind as a joystick. I’ll also try the Linux boards.
kmhamelParticipantThanks, got both ps3 controllers working, now I just need to get them to play nice with a joypad encoder.
kmhamelParticipant
somebody feel free to correct me as I am a complete NOOB to RP, but I think from what I’ve read here that once you install the new emulator from the setup screen, you put your roms in the particular folders that gizmo mentioned above and that will make it run the new emulator instead of the default one.
Thanks, I thought as much but wasn’t sure. I’ll give it a try.
kmhamelParticipantHow do you setup emulation station to use mupen64plus-testing once you get it built?

I’m running a pi2 at 1000MHz using berryboot and a usb harddrive and don’t seem to be having any lag problems so far. Only tested on playstation and mame so far.I am also overclocked to 1,000MHz on the B+ but obviously the RPI2 has better specs.
Would you be open to trying one of these games (only ones I have) Suikoden 2, Resident Evil 2, Street Fighter vs Marvel, Final Fantasy Tactics, Breath of Fire 3, Crash Team Racing, to see if there is any sound lag in the intro videos?
I know that that is asking a bit but I would appreciate knowing if you have a different experience.
Played a few of the games and found no lag. everything seems fine to me.
kmhamelParticipant
On my B+ I don’t have any issues whatsoever with the PSX emulator. But this requires an aggressive overclock and active cooling with heatsink and fan. It runs PSX at full speed with zero audio issues, lag, or long loading times when:
arm_freq=1150
core_freq=500
sdram_freq=600
over_voltage=8
force_turbo=1Note the above settings WILL set your warranty bit. However its been pretty stable and never goes above 55C with heatsink and fan. Using BT PS3 controller.
I have recently acquired a Pi2 and although it is noticably faster at many tasks, I did not see much of a difference with the PSX. It handles heavy action on the screen without dipping the frame rate, but that’s it. However N64 performance is MUCH improved, running Mario 64 and MarioKart 64 at full speed with literally ZERO glitches. However this isn’t the case with all games. Some simply do not run.
My Pi2 is overclocked to 1100.
What are your setting for the Pi2? I tried 1100 and just got the rainbow. I was going to get a heatsink and give it another try.

kmhamelParticipantI had the same problem, use sudo raspi-config and force the audio to hdmi. Works for all my os’s
kmhamelParticipantThanks got it going, my f4 button was stuck, kicking me out.
kmhamelParticipantOk I have 2.6 up and running but have no sound from hdmi. I looked in /boot for the config.txt file and nothing shows. Am I missing something, is this a hidden file that I need to tell to show?
kmhamelParticipantBerryboot was installing it on a harddrive.
kmhamelParticipantWell I booted using your image and got the same error that I got on mine.
df: ‘squashfs’: no such file or directory
just jumps me out of emulation station and back to terminal.
any ideas?
