I’m about 99% sure it’s going to me the power supply. The pi isn’t getting enough juice for the extra peripherals. I’m running 1ghz with a usb snes pad and keyboard and everything is fine with a 1000mh unit.

I actually prefer retroarch as Pisnes doesn’t work with mario all stars or megaman x 2 and 3

Try using it on your PC. If it still works there then it’s something to do with the pi.

Is it connected? If it’s plug and play then it should just work. Might be dead?!

1) Not sure why the games are running quickly? Try pressing F8, I think that turns turbo on and off. You can also press F11 to show the fps and frameskip settings. Play around with those function keys.
2) Some games might not have emulated sound (Undercover Cops, In the Hunt etc) as it’s an older version of mame. Some very old games might need sound samples in the mame folder titled ‘samples’. Check the mame4all pi Google code site and there should be a link on there with instructions.
3) Yes. Press the ‘TAB’ key to open up the menu and then go to input for all and there should be an option called ‘UI Cancel’. Press ‘Enter’ on it and then press start and select. This should map other those buttons to quit to ES.

I did set both player inputs to “0” but this breaks Mario Kart! I managed to fix this by completely disabling player 2 input and changing the “1” to “nul”.

The above doesn’t really fix the problem. I’ve made sure both pads are set to “1” and “0” and I still get non responsive controls when the game starts.

I just noticed that there’s no longer a change log on the downloads page. Could Petrockblog add a dedicated three with a change log?

Use the Neo Geo bios that’s exactly “neogeo.zip (234 kb)”. I cant tell you where to find it but if you Google that you should be able to find it.

Then you press L+R+SELECT in game to open up the bios menu. Check the PiFBA config to see what buttons you have assigned on your controller for this.

Ah, thought this might be the case. I wish there was more development going on in regards to the emulators on the Pi.

Using that bios I mentioned I’m able to switch blood on games (mslug for example). Is that what you mean by censored?

Are you using PiFBA? I’m using a asia-s3 bios and the game and see ice menu is all in English. Try searching for neogeo.zip and it should be about 204kb
Hey typh0id,

if you can’t access the service menu it indicates that you’re using the wrong neogeo bios file (neogeo.zip). I was in the same situation but since I’ve found a fairly smaller bios file (with less files within) I can successfully access the service menu by pressing SELECT+LT+RT on my Xbox controller under piFBA and turn on the blood in all mslugs :)

Regarding sound and some Neo Geo games well it also means that you’re using the wrong rom files or as trimmtrabb said you need the “decrypted” M1 file to be present within those roms (for SVC it should be 269-m1_decrypted.bin). If you Google a bit I’m sure you’ll find a good place to get these. Also have a look at the output.log file located in the /home/pi/RetroPie/emulators/pifba/ directory.

After testing all Neo Geo games I can confirm that only 4 don’t work properly with piFBA:<br>
* mslug3 (crash on launch)<br>
* kof2000 (crash on launch)<br>
* ridhero (launch but crash w black screen as soon as the race starts / works ok on mame4all)<br>
* zedblade (glitches/messy background / works perfect on mame4all)

Finally with respect to your last question, the script from Cacophony555 helps a lot to build a gamelist.xml file allowing you to specify a name for your roms. It’s still manual though but better than nothing! As a bonus if you have images/boxarts for your games they’ll be picked up automatically (you have to use same name rom file/image). Let me enclose my own file here, simply rename it to gamelist.xml and put it into your neogeo or fba roms dir and you’re done!

hope this helps!<br>

cheers,
First off, thanks for all the advice. It has been very helpful!

nemo93: Taking your suggestion I found a different neogeo.zip bios and sure enough I can now access te service menu.

I will look for those decrypted ROM files you mentioned.

As for the gamelist.xml, however…I did generate one and put it in my roms folder and as far as displaying the full game names, it worked…The problem is that it overrides my existing theme.xml for that menu and now I just have a white screen with the game names all on the righthand side (I had them centered without boxart etc)…Is there anyway to incorporate the gamelist into my current theme?
I’m also having trouble with the neogeo.zip and the service menu. Could you possibly post a link (private message) to the correct bios?

Do you have the neogeo.zip in the same directory as your roms?

For MAME games I would recommend using Squids ‘Pi-MAME4ALL’
For Neo Geo and CPS1/2 games I would alos use Squids ‘PiFBA’
I don’t use any special configurations for the basic emulators. My overclocking settings are on Modest (no overvolting). Have you tried other SNES games to see if they work? I believe Super Metroid is a 24Bit game. I can tell you that I haven’t been able to play any Sega 32X games; they all stutter and are unplayable. So maybe that is the problem with that specific game.<br>
NES, SNES, Megadrive, SMS are all working perfectly for me. ZX Spectrum, Atari2600, AmstradCPC are working too. MSX goes well for most games, but some might get very slow. FBA for NeoGeo games works well for some games (like Snow Bros and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs), while some cannot be executed (something that has to do with emulation itself; e.g. Metal Slug or KoF).
I have a over clock of 900/333/500 with 4 overvolt and I can run Metal Slug and KOF Flawlessly at 60fps. Are you using PiFBA instead of the RetroArch core. PiFBA has much better performance.

Gngeo is terrible imo on the pi. Change to PiFBA as it’s full screen and runs games better.

Might be a dodgy install. Try formating the sd card and a clean image burn.

Have you tried editing the cfg via a SFTP connection? Try using a program called WinSCP and remotely logging in to the Pi. Also make sure no n of the buttons are duplicated in the cfg when editing. Good luck!

It’s fairly easy to update emulators via the script. This shouldn’t affect your retroarch settings so your safe but if might change any final burn alpha control configs so make a copy. Also to install mupen64 select install from sources in the setup script. Try not to wipe and format your sd card too much as it can negatively effect it’s lifespan.
