I’ve found Nestopia to be noticeably better. One example is the smoothness of the screen scrolling in Ghosts and Goblins.
Thanks for your opinion. I’ve heard elsewhere that the Nestopia core is more accurate and the better of the Nes cores. I’ll be using that one.
kitchukParticipantFloob, I noticed in another thread that you mentioned that you preferred Nestopia. Any reason for this? More accurate, faster?
kitchukParticipantHey Barry, how’s the fixes coming along? Can they be merged with jools’s github yet? Id love to be able to play SF3.
kitchukParticipantDid you figure this one out?
kitchukParticipant
The controls don’t become unresponsive, they just switch to the second player. If you connect another gamepad and switch the controller as soon as your controls don’t work anymore you can easily play the game.
And yes there are now new emulators that don’t have that problem. snes-9x-next for example works flawlessly with the game, althogh a pi1 is probably not powerful enough to use that emulator.
This is what I wanted to hear. I plan on getting a Pi 2 soon so that’ll be perfect. Thanks Mutex.
kitchukParticipantI was running it on the Pi 1 with Pocketsnes. The game stated but as soon as you actually got into the level the controls were just unresponsive. This was quite a well known problem.
So now it fully works no hassle? Cool! (If it does)
kitchukParticipantI most excited about full speed SNES emulation. Also SFX games!
kitchukParticipantIt always been available it just that theperformance with the core is terrible compared to the standalone GPSP binary
kitchukParticipant
I have already made an install script. CatSFC is definitely slower than pocketsnes-libretro atm.
https://github.com/gizmo98/RetroPie-Setup/blob/testing/scriptmodules/libretrocores/catsfc.sh
Is this slower performance with an overclock? I currently run Pocketsnes with 1Ghz overclock and it is satisfactory. Its annoying that it doesn’t run Mario All-Stars though.
kitchukParticipantSound is better with ARMSNES but there are still some compatibility issues with PAL games and generally with others. If the developer can iron out these issue and fix a couple of other bug (on github) then this imo will be the best Snes emulator on the Pi.
kitchukParticipantGoogle translate is not your friend.
kitchukParticipantkitchukParticipantUse a program called Win32 Disk Imager. You can insert your sd card into your PC and them read the sd card and create an output .img file. You can then wrote this image file to any other sd card. It’s what u do to make a backup of my setup.
kitchukParticipantI find the lcd3x shader with bilinear filtering looks good.
kitchukParticipantAre you using a 0.37b5 Romset?
kitchukParticipantMame4all is already in the current 2.2 Retropie image.
kitchukParticipantThere should be a folder in the mame4all binary folder called samples. You should have all the samples per game, per zip placed in this folder.
kitchukParticipantThis seems to be an issue with ES 2.0 as far as I know.
kitchukParticipantThis is a bug with the RC1 version of emulation station. You need to open the options menu and select ‘quit from emulation station’. This will take you to the CLI but will save the game list. I think Aloshi is going to fix this.
kitchukParticipantI’ve tried this on my older retropie image and it runs fantastic.
kitchukParticipantJust put the bios in the gpsp binary directory.
kitchukParticipantFixed! It seems like the core options file just needs to be in the all folder with the retroarch.cfg.
I then added the line
core_options_path =
to the ‘all’ retroarch.cfg and specified where the core options file was.kitchukParticipantI realised the core options config file is missing from the ‘all’ folder. The retroarch.cfg needs amending to include core config directory as well.
kitchukParticipantIt might be easier just to use the pre-made image. It will be ALOT easier.
kitchukParticipantMame4all: Press the TAB button on your keyboard and then go to overall input options. You should see a entry for UI Cancel. Press enter on your keyboard, then press the two buttons together at the same time.
Snes should be:
input_enable_hotkey_btn = “8”
input_exit_emulator_btn = “11”kitchukParticipantI just noticed that the run command directory for sega cd has the older directory style. It’s needs to be the new opt/ directory.
kitchukParticipantI don’t think (petrock?) the v2 includes the new PC Engine core? The one Vanafel posted in that thread fixes both CD emulation AND the cropping of the picture (black bar at the top and missing pixels as the bottom).
kitchukParticipantI understnad that Neo Geo is now FBA. The new ES does actually have a theme for Neo Geo. I created a folder called ‘neogeo’ in the roms folder. I use FBA for CPS roms and Neo Geo for well…Neo Geo.
I also creaste two seperate PiFba folders (with two seperate configs) as I use one controller setup for FBA and one setup for Neo Geo controls.
kitchukParticipantI also noticed the MasterSystem and Neo Geo system folders are missing in the roms folder.
kitchukParticipantThat looks fantastic!
kitchukParticipantMaintainAspectRatio=0 that will make it fill the screen for you. Plus all games will run at 60fps.

kitchukParticipantThe Retroarch FBA core is terrible in the pi. I doubt you will be able to get full speed with it. Have you tried going into the Pi-fba config file and changing the aspect ratio? This way you can make the image fill the screen. I definitely recommend the binary over retroarch.

kitchukParticipantAlso it should show 100% max when playing roms. Did you try pressing the other F keys? I’m sure one of them turns on throttle with speeds games up.

kitchukParticipantDo you have sound with other roms for other systems like snes and nes?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
kitchukParticipantThe directory for the roms should be pi/home/RetroPie/snes/roms and not debug.
