Hey mate, no problem on the questions, we are all learning…
yeah you need to put the “~” symbol, notice though, the font on this forum makes it look strange, on the sudo cat command it is the “~” that is a squigly line on the “#” key (on my uk keyboard) same for the cd command at the top, for the options for the script, it is the “-” (button next to the + key)
I have uploaded it all in just a text file, so copy and past straight into your ssh terminal..
you will probably need to remove all the “input_playerx_joy” stuff from the bottom of your retroarch.cfg first, so it doesn’t get confussed
karlossParticipantHey mate,
drop into terminal (F4) or ssh and do this..
cd ~/RetroPie/emulators/RetroArch/tools
sudo ./retroarch-joyconfig -o p1.cfg -p 1 -j 0
( -o for output file, -p for player, -j for joystick id )then do this
sudo cat p*.cfg >> ~/RetroPie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
this will setup the controls for the emulators.
good luck
karlossParticipantwhat do you mean mate? what output RCA or HDMI?
I wouldn’t say that mine looks that bad…

at the bottom on the /RetroPie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg file, you will see input_player1_joypad_index stuff, delete all of that…
then drop into terminal (F4) or ssh and do this..cd ~/RetroPie/emulators/RetroArch/tools
sudo ./retroarch-joyconfig -o p1.cfg -p 1 -j 0
( -o for output file, -p for player, -j for joystick id )then do this
sudo cat p*.cfg >> ~/RetroPie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
this will setup the controls for the emulators, if you need to do the emulationstation controls, delete the esconfig file in the .emulationstation folder and reboot.
good luck

karlossParticipantVery cool mate, im working on a table, its almost done, will share after..so have you scripted a version of the es-scraper to run automatically? Could you please share?
karlossParticipantnot to worry, reinstalled psx via source and now all working :)
karlossParticipanthey mate,
im sure you didnt, but I think I did when I got this issue, did you do all the xbox guide stuff logged in as root? as it must be done with pi user, just a thought incase.
thanks
karlossParticipantGreat work mate :) will try this tonight.
Your pi is at 900mhz, what is your mem split/sdram/arm frequency?
thanks
Kalr
karlossParticipantI have managed to get a working berryboot image, but installing the retropie script on the raspbian image, i have done a binary build and that works find, just working on a build that used complied sources, will share it after if you can not work it out yourself…
karlossParticipantHi Petrock,
I have managed to near enough make a working RetroPie image for Berryboot, but I had an issue when compiling from source, it said that DGEN and PSX Core failed to complie, quite a pain, as it took hours to complie it all in the first place..
am I able to just re-run the setup, and deselect eveything apart from the DGEN options and the PSX Core, will this recomplie these and hopefully get them working while not messing up anything else?
thanks
Karl
karlossParticipanthi petrockblog,
I love your work..
I have a simular issue, I am trying to make a RetroPie install using the raspbian image for berryboot, last night I run the full install of the retro-pie script, and everything was success, but when I then run the retro-pie setup and set the system to start emulationstation on boot, it reboots, but just goes back to LXDE, have I done something wrong? as I was hoping that it would reboot to emulationstation and I would be sorted.
Im sure I have probably just done something silly/wrong, and would love if you could point me in the right direction..
Thanks
KarlkarlossParticipanthmmm, I had exactly the same issue when I first did it, but I reinstalled, using the sd-image and followed the guide again, and that time it worked ok, its picking your control up as a “keyboard” instead of a controller…
karlossParticipantHi Raygan,
The reason I didn’t do this is beacuse compiling from source takes forever…if I really can’t get it work work, I will try doing it that way, but I would rather just convert the sd-image or my self made image of my current setup..
karlossParticipantI have been trying to do the same for the last few days, using the guide Jonathan posted is where I got the information..
I have an image that will now boot, but it hangs when the Retro Pie splash is on screen, so obv not quite working properly yet…
will update if/when I get it working.
karlossParticipantHey mate,
Are you using an official controller?
when you edited the rc.local file, did you change the “wid” to just “id”? when emulationstation starts, is the top left (player 1) light lit on the controller? does it work ok for emulationstation when it asks you to setup controls for the players?
When I did the config, I have to do via the real terminal, pressing F4 when emulationstation opened, it didn’t seem to work for me when I tried doing via ssh, but I did get it working.
Let me know
Karl
karlossParticipantHey flattery,
I have brought the client app for my phone and installed the server on my pi, can you paste a copy of your penguin_remote.pl script please?
Thanks
karlossParticipantHi Flattery,
This sounds very useful, esp mounting the xbox controllers, could you possibly give a guide, or share the work you have done?
Thanks
Karl
karlossParticipantHi Jonathan,
Can you please point me in the places and things that you did to improve the sound on your pie? ie changing the resampling rate and switching to SDL?
Thanks
Karl
karlossParticipantHi Raygan,
Can you please give me an idea of what you did to get it to work? as I don’t quite understand exactly what I need to do from reading that thread.
Thanks
karlossParticipantHi Jonathan,
I guess my question is beyond your knowledge or not possilbe?
Thanks
Karl
karlossParticipantHey,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I am using the SD-Image, 1.4.1 (are the problems using this over compiling from scratch?) and i see it has SNESDev-Rpi built in..
Is it possible for me to just use a Momentary switch on gpio and use that the quit? or does it need to recieve a keyboard command of some sort?
Thanks
Karl
karlossParticipantHi, really nice build/idea, I am currently working on my own little project, will share when done. could you please link me to the process of resetting the games via the GPIO pins please?
Thanks
Karl
