Either you’re using the wrong romset, missing bios or using the wrong emulator: advancemame uses .106 mame4all and mame-libretro use .037b5
See this post on how to rebuild romsets from newer romsets:https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs
Floob has many posts throughout the forum explaining mame including videos.
herbfargusMemberI had the same issue- I was never able to solve it. I’m pretty sure its directly related to the raspberry pi rather than retropie or emulation station. I’ve seen a few posts of other people who have had the same issues with their raspberry pi’s on the raspberry pi forum.
Youre best off using HDMI if at all possible. Also try switching around the wires even if they are the wrong colours as colour codes for 4 pole cables can be different than the typical rca colour codes.
herbfargusMemberFor neo geo games you need the neogeo.zip file in the same folder as your ROMs. What is required is laid out clearly in the aforementioned posts. Floob has some videos on it as well. The answers are all on the forum, a little searching will get you what you need.
herbfargusMemberLikelihood is you are lacking the correct romset. see these posts:
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Neo-Geo
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FinalBurn-Alpha
If I were you I would use PiFBA to play neogeo roms.
herbfargusMemberI wouldn’t count on it as most won’t be ported for Linux plus the ones that are will require more processing than is readily available on the pi. It really just depends on the game.
herbfargusMemberI wouldn’t worry about doing that, it would just beasier for you to create a folder called unused in the ROM directory and then move all the folders you don’t use into that unused folder. Problem solved. Then when you want to use those emulators again just pull the folder back out into the main ROMs folder. That way you don’t have to mess with configs.
herbfargusMemberIf your roms are .j64 you either need to add .j64 to the es_systems.cfg file or you can update the setup script and reinstall as the extension was just added to the code. But as stated above its far from operational in its current state even with rpi2 overclocked.
herbfargusMemberhttps://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30660
I’ve had thoughts of putting together an RPi cluster, but really there are many more feasible options that require less time and effort.
herbfargusMemberI can’t speak to sources other than the official retropie SD image as I am unaware of the modifications others have made that might be causing your problems. But the wiki is a useful resource in outlining which files are needed for each emulator (such as the bios files for atari800)
herbfargusMemberThe wiki is a very useful resource for figuring out individual emulators and the file types needed.
herbfargusMemberBTW update your setup script first and then enable the USB ROM service from the setup menu in the setup script, and then try the steps listed above.
herbfargusMemberPut a folder on your USB drive called
retropie
and try again.https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Changelogs
/https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/install-roms-via-usb/
It would also be helpful to specify which SD version you installed.

See this video if you have any issues:
herbfargusMemberglad it worked out, feel free to mark the thread as resolved from the drop down menu at the top :)

Some people have commented out wpa-roam like this
#wpa-roam
you can also try addingauto wlan0
underauto lo
I usually just use the first method here and I haven’t had any problems:

Hope it helps.
herbfargusMemberYep, feel free to mark the thread as resolved in the dropdown menu at the top of this thread. Hopefully at some point keyboard input and controller configuration will be implemented.

Make sure you’ve updated the setup script before you installed reicast as there were some fixes from the initial build.
herbfargusMemberRetropie is built on raspbian. Download the SD image and you’ll be fine. It lacks the desktop GUI lxde but that can be installed as needed (thoug you really don’t need it for retropie)
herbfargusMemberFrom the terminal:
cd RetroPie sudo ./retropie-setup.sh update setup script Exit the setup script sudo ./retropie-setup.sh Full binary installation sudo reboot
Alternatively starting with retropie 3.0 there is a retropie menu in emulation station that has the setup script option so you don’t have to go into the terminal.
You can also do individual binary installs for individual emulators.
See these videos:
Full binary install:
Individual emulator update:
Updating to 3.0 from 2.6:
I find it easiest just to start with a fresh SD image but that’s just me.
herbfargusMemberIt is possible it has something to do with the latest SD image- I’ll do more testing when I’ve got some time- its not a super huge deal as it only takes a couple seconds to do.
**EDIT upon further review the issue with saved configurations is a completely separate issue. It has nothing to do with the virtual game pad so disregard the previous post- your project works fine.
Petrockblog is working on a thing called inputstation that is basically an all in one controller configuration- it looks and works like the controller configuration for emulation station except it has more options and configures controls for retroarch as well. I’ve tested it with your virtual gamepad and it doesn’t quite work with it yet, but once input station is more stable I want to make sure your project works with it.
https://github.com/petrockblog/InputStation/tree/master
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/InputStation
BTW, I added it to the Wiki: https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Virtual-Gamepad
herbfargusMemberThe wiki answers all your questions:
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Amiga
Leftctrl+ESC= exit to menu
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Commodore-64
herbfargusMemberUpdate from binary on the setup script.
herbfargusMemberEmulators will only show up in emulation station if there are ROMs in their respective folders. It keeps it much cleaner that way. See the wiki for where to place ROMs for each emulator as well as which file extensions are accepted:
herbfargusMemberWith all the CRT TVs I’ve tried with a 4pole RCA the sound has had a hum or a buzz on the speakers- it has something to do with the raspberry pi jack and sound configurations- you might have to do some extra configurations to sort sound out. Otherwise it worked OK for me with video- just need to tweak aspect ratio for some emulators.
herbfargusMemberQuestion: Is it possible for the configurations to be saved? I have to reconfigure it every time that I reboot (at least for emulationstation, I haven’t yet tested retroarch configs)
herbfargusMemberif it gave you a failed to load message it is possible the video format you are using isn’t compatible with that version of omxplayer (i had that issue a bunch and had to convert the videos with vlc to another format)
herbfargusMemberThere are some newer version light guns which use an infrared receiver similar kinda like a wiimote or kinect so that they will work on newer televisions- but it is highly doubtful emulators will be programmed to support those drivers out of the box. I’ve yet to hear of anyone getting a light gun to work with the raspberry pi- not to say it isn’t possible but I just haven’t seen anyone solve it yet.
There are light guns such as this which are far too expensive in my opinion- not to mention they only work on windows
http://www.arcadeguns.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=267
What would be brilliant is if someone was able to hack together an infrared receiver that would allow any remote to be used as an effectual light gun.
herbfargusMemberI can confirm this as well. Something must be wrong on petrockblog’s end.
herbfargusMemberrough go, sorry I couldn’t be of more use- I definitely recommend amazon for sandisk SD cards. I’ve purchased at least 5 cards from them and I’ve never had a problem with any of them. Good luck!
herbfargusMemberI don’t know how possible that would be as each emulator section is scripted to boot the emulator and then the ROMs specific to that emulator. It would need some way to differentiate the ROMs so that depending on which ROM you chose it would boot up its respective emulator. Its an interesting idea but unless you’re a genius with scripting I don’t know of any simple way to implement that functionality. If you do figure something out I’d be interested in seeing it.
The other option would be to create a simple bash script for each rom- but if you have tons of ROMs that could be tedious.
herbfargusMemberYeah eBay is sketch… I got mine off of amazon. I had the same issue with my other 64 GB card I got from a similar site. Its just black and says 64gb and I had the exact same issue that you did… Looks like you got shafted. For your sake I hope I’m wrong.
herbfargusMemberMight be more helpful if you state what kind of microsd card you are using, which version of retropie you installed, and which model of a Raspberry Pi that you own. And which software you are using to format and write your SD card.
Check to see if it is a compatible microsd card:
http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cardsI use a 64 sandisk ultra and it works fine for me on my raspberry pi 2.
Also verify you downloaded the right retropie image:
Raspberry Pi 1= A,A+,B,B+
Raspberry Pi 2= Raspberry pi 2 model BUse SD formatter to format your microsd card.
Then use win32diskimager to write the SD image to your microsd card. It creates a bootable image which is different than just copying files onto your SD card.
See this post and the accompanying video for a step by step process.
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/First-Installation-(RetroPie-SD-Image-2.6)
It says it is for the 2.6 image but it will also work for the 3.0 image.
herbfargusMemberController configurations are hardcoded into the source code and there is no keyboard support hence one of the many reasons it is experimental. So unless you modify the source code and recompile you’re out of luck for now.
herbfargusMemberI maintain a complete changelog on the wiki
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Changelogs
They are also on the downloads page
