Ok I’ve locked all the columns but the statuses and the notes column. I can do that for all the sheets, the only issue that comes with that is that people can no longer use the filtered views- does anyone have any suggestions for how to solve that? or should I just leave it to people to copy to their own google drive if they want that luxury?
herbfargusMemberYeah I can lock the columns that don’t need to be edited by the community. It looks like the missing ROMs are the ones that were listed as having issues- seems someone deleted them. I’ll see if I can revert back to before they were deleted or at least put them back in by hand since I have backups in a separate folder for when I knew someone would make a mistake (I’ve done this before ha ha)
To get rid of all the clones I usually just build a merged set with clrmamepro and it gives me about 1000 instead of 2200.
herbfargusMember@bazola
Well every little bit helps- thanks for your contributions :)
I think you may be right, I had forgotten about the other systems. For all intents and purposes I think keeping the .dat files specific to the arcade games is wise.
Thanks for fixing up the sheets, it will help eliminate user error immensely.
herbfargusMemberOk I’ve added separate status columns for the Rpi 1 and the Rpi 2. And whoever added the dropdown menu options for the status columns- brilliant! (if you could do that to all of them I would be grateful)
I’ve also added a link to your neogeo .dat file on the managing roms wiki page- thanks for the input!
herbfargusMemberAs far as helping feel free to add the results of your testing to the spreadsheets either in the status and or notes column.
I’m definitely open to new ideas to improve the lists, as far as differences between rpi1 and rpi2, would it make more sense to create an rpi1 and rp2 status column or would it be more preferable to just make a comment in the notes section? I’m open to both ideas.
Floob as far as a lr-fba .DAT I found this list in the source code
https://github.com/libretro/fba-libretro/blob/master/svn-current/trunk/gamelist.txt
There are about 2000 more games listed there than in the .DAT file currently listed for lr-fba and as far as .DAT files I’ve found them to be more preferable when they have merge data (like the two .DAT files I added for mame4all and pifba)
herbfargusMemberYeah I’d start with 3.0 Beta 4. If you dont like it you always go back to 2.6. If you want your ROMs to work in mame its likely you’ll need to rebuild it with clrmamepro, if you follow the video on that page its pretty simple to do. 3.0 beta 4 is just easier with initial setup as the first configuration with the gamepad in emulation station also configures your controller for retroarch among other things. You can see the changelogs here:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/ChangelogsherbfargusMemberMame will always be a headache to sort out due to the variances between versions of romsets, but retropie beta 4 does make everything Easier to configure and for the most part is pretty stable.
This page has the proper .DAT files for rebuilding ROMs with clrmamepro:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs
herbfargusMemberI don’t have a ps3 controller so I’m not sure how much this applies but it may give you somewhere to start:
Joystick input number changing with different number of controllers
herbfargusMemberits something I’m currently working on (testing 2270 games takes a while) you’re welcome to take a look at what I’ve got so far. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12-W3J05lXyrGrFVgw91tcz_l2Vjl0RBE1kogpXJYA_Y/edit?usp=sharing feel free to contribute any you know of that work. Then once it’s done, I’ll piece together a dat file of only the working parents. I’m also going to test to see if rebuilding from .163 changes which ones work compared to rebuilding from .151.
herbfargusMemberIf you’re looking for a .DAT file for mame4all that allows you to merge parents and clones I’ve used this one:
http://www.progettosnaps.net/dats/MAME/MAME_Dats_037-52.rarChoose the .037b5 .DAT file, then when rebuilding with clrmamepro choose merged sets instead of split or non-merged. It cut my list of 2200 ROMs to a little over 1000
herbfargusMemberJust follow the wiki. Reicast is not a libretro core so it won’t have retroarch configs.see this post also:
herbfargusMemberAs far as mapping controls see this page (it has some useful diagrams near the bottom): https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/RetroArch-Configuration
herbfargusMemberOK brilliant, thanks for testing that. I’ll fix it upstream so in the future you shouldnt have to change it manually.
herbfargusMemberI don’t know of any way to change those configs but you could try switching to lr-mame4all for the default emulator- that uses retroarch configs
herbfargusMemberYou could try adding .gdi extension to es_systems.cfg under the Dreamcast option and see if it will work. If it does then we can ammend the source code and wiki to include that extension as well
herbfargusMemberThe links show how to set it up. Right now it will be a manual thing until someone who’s passionate enough about it and knows how to script it adds it to the source code (coding isn’t my strong suit) emulating x86 on an arm processor is a feat in itself, so I don’t know how well it would really perform.
herbfargusMemberherbfargusMembersudo passwd root
will let you choose a new password then you can log in as root over winscp.herbfargusMemberNot sure how much this affects things but Wicd-curses while convenient for configuring wifi can affect processing with overclocked pi’s. Other than that I don’t know. Have you tried switching the default emulators?
herbfargusMemberI create separate destination for each final folder (like in my video) so I have a mame4all final and an FBA final, etc. But I use the same source folder each time.
Just to clarify when you ran it the first time nothing changed about your source folder correct?
I’m pretty sure the way I configured it on the video was setup so that it created a copy in the destination folder rather than modified the source folder.
herbfargusMembergood to know I’m not the only one who keeps myself entertained with retropie at work ha ha. source folder is the main roms folder. Basically the source is asking for where you are storing the roms that you want to rebuild. so in your case your source would be roms, and the destination would be final (so after its done building your rebuilt roms will be placed in the final folder). just to clarify though a .dat file is only a database file that clrmamepro uses to rebuild the roms- after its done rebuilding you no longer need it.
herbfargusMemberFBA stands for Final Burn Alpha (see wiki page link below). It is used to emulate neogeo, capcom 1 and capcom 2 games. There are two emulators for final burn alpha- Pifba and fba-libretro. pifba has better performance but doesn’t have the convenience of retroarch configurations. Fba-libretro has worse performance but has more game options. There are technically 7 arcade emulators (which are all explained if you peruse all the wikis pages below) and it really just depends on which games you want to be able to play and how well you want to play them- clrmamepro is basically how to manage all of the games to be compatible with each emulator.
As far as your rom paths- if you’re referring to point 5:40 in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuWl2GdEfDAThe source folder is the folder of your original romset, and you’ll create a new folder to be your destination folder for your roms that will be rebuilt. As far as I understand it, it will create a rebuilt copy of your original roms in the destination folder- so you’ll effectually have two copies- the original roms from your original folder (which you can use to rebuild other roms from other .dat files) and the rebuilt roms in your newly created destination folder, which you will eventually place in its respective rom folder on your retropie. You can repeat the process as many times as you need for each arcade emulator (I apologise that my video isn’t updated with the latest .dat files.- I’ll ammend the description)

https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Neo-GeoherbfargusMemberDon’t forget the control block as well:
ControlBlock: Power Switch, Game Controllers, and I/O for the Raspberry Pi
herbfargusMemberfor lists of roms for each emulator see these pages:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/MAME
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FinalBurn-AlphaYou can also use the scanner tool with clrmamepro to see which roms you have- see a little after 7 minutes on this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuWl2GdEfDA
you can get the .dat files for the respective emulator from this page:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs
herbfargusMemberare you following this guide? https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs follow the accompanying video and use the .dat files provided on the wiki page rather than the ones in the video. Are you trying to create roms for mame, advmame, pifba, libretro-fba, or gneogeopi?
06/30/2015 at 14:39 in reply to: Need help getting CPS3 ROMs to work on Retropie 3 Beta 4 (Raspberry Pi2) #101079herbfargusMemberI’ve updated the wiki (https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FinalBurn-Alpha) to include the gamelist floob shared and clarified the rompaths (fba roms can be placed in either the fba or neogeo folder) Thanks for pointing those things out.
herbfargusMemberSometimes wicd doesn’t play nice with some WiFi dongles for whatever reason, and wifi may need to be configured manually using option two or three from this page: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Setting-Up-Wifi
You can also look over option one and see if perhaps you missed a step in configuring wicd
herbfargusMemberSounds like you need to expand your filesystem. In the terminal type sudo raspi-config or you can also access it from the retropie menu in emulationstation. Then choose expand filesystem and reboot. Then try again.
herbfargusMemberPsx games typically will run about 1/2 GB a game. (At least as far as the games I have) mine are all in bin cue format but others also work. I personally keep my psx gaming on my PC due to the large ROM size.
herbfargusMemberYou can enable root access by typing
sudo passwd root
and then typing your new root password and then sign into your ftp as root with your new password. Or you can access
/etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg by usingsudo nano /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
herbfargusMemberIt will be updated eventually to include non-retroarch emulators but it may be a bit before that happens so until then You’ll need to configure them manually. (I.e. fba, mame4all, advmame, reicast, jzintv, mupen64plus, etc.)
06/26/2015 at 19:45 in reply to: USB Gamepad works in Emulation Station, but not in Game properly #100790herbfargusMemberWhat version of retropie are you using? I’d suggest using retropie 3 beta 4 as it has a lot of fixes regarding controller configurations. (The emulation station configuration will also configure retroarch for you)
herbfargusMemberI had a thought- the reason that it isn’t working with notepad is that it doesn’t seem to handle certain text characters very well- try installing notepad++ and see if that makes a difference in creating scripts.
As far as stella goes, you can type stella into the terminal and it will open stella or you can change your default emulator by pressing x or m as a rom loads and change it from libretro to stella. If you are are trying to exit emulationstation, if you press a button after you exit emulationstation it will allow you to go into the terminal. if you don’t press anything it will just reboot back into emulationstation.
herbfargusMemberYou could also change the 5 to 10 or 20 If you want it to take longer or as floob said you can take out $es_bin
herbfargusMemberRPI clusters are an interesting concept. As far as my very limited understanding goes the software would have to be coded to work with such a setup- it would probably get pretty messy and require someone who knows what they are doing (which I usually don’t :p) I don’t know about 2GB limitations on games, I’ve always just played on older systems.
