from that forum link I posted you could try this:
sudo wget https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu/raw/c83976d1dfb4793893158461430261562b3a5bf0/rtl8188eufw.bin -O /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8188eufw.bin
sudo reboot
and then use wpa supplicant along with interfaces detailed here:
http://www.fars-robotics.net/herbfargusMembersounds like its a driver issue then rather than your configurations. seems you’re not the only one who has had issues with the same wifi dongle:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=62371&start=475
herbfargusMemberIf its not even showing try
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
herbfargusMemberTypically mine has double quotes like the example listed under option 2 here:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Setting-Up-Wifi
See if adding double quotes changes anything.
herbfargusMemberPress x or m as the ROM loads and you can change the default emulator. Or in the experimental menu from the retropie setup script you can install mupen64plus testing which seems to have better configs for running games but it will still be hit and miss.
herbfargusMemberDid you try this:
Is your encryption WPA or WEP? Your interfaces file will be different depending on your encryption.

wicd-curses package seems to be missing – no wifi.
Wicd-curses is only installed when selected (which requires an active internet connection)
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/commit/7f00499977ce4664a1f37084cdc0a0baf8c9ca96
It causes CPU scaling issues and so it was changed to being optional rather than installed by default. We’re looking into a simple cmdline GUI that doesnt cause the same issues and runs much leaner, see here:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/issues/874

You’ll need to be plugged into it with an Ethernet cable to install wicd-curses or if you don’t have an Ethernet cable you can configure your WiFi manually using option 2 or 3 on this page:

herbfargusMemberThere is a solution in the latest retroarch- called core input remapping: if you reinstall retroarch from menu 5 in the setup script (after updating the setup script of course) and open up into the rgui (by pressing select+x)- under the quick menu you can change which core options do what- so you could switch start and select so start is the coin input and select is start or any other variation that is comfortable. That way you don’t have to give up a control if you wish to still be able to put coins in. You’ll just have to make sure that the RGUI saves the configs on exit.
herbfargusMemberA new release candidate should be released within the week. (Has lr-mame4all fixes)
herbfargusMemberJust FYI, the core input remapping feature is now working:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/issues/877
Just update your setup script, and reinstall retroarch from binary and you can change the core remappings under the quick menu in the rgui.
herbfargusMemberThat list refers to the database ID’s for thegamedb.net API (mainly used for scraping rom data) I’ve ammended the wiki to more accurately reflect what that list is for. The database supports those systems, but retropie may not have all of them installed let alone be able to to run them (like the Wii or Wii U). Colecovision has not yet been added to RetroPie. (plus that list is 3 years old)
The side bar on the wiki is an accurate reflection of what retropie has as part of its setup script. Colecovision is not yet part of it, though I have heard of some people compiling mess and getting Colecovision to work with that, but I haven’t tried it myself.
herbfargusMemberThanks for the pointer. I realised that as I was testing the games that any of the ones that said factory settings restored I had to reboot and then they would work so some of them that are listed as freezing may actually work if you reboot them… I figured this out about halfway through so some listed as not working may actually work.- it would be good to add a note to the notes column on the compatibility lists which ones need this little workaround.
herbfargusMemberThe easiest way I’ve found is to just log in as user root rather than user pi. The root password is disabled by default with retropie 3.0 but you can easily re-enable it with
sudo passwd root
then choose a new password, sign in your ftp as root with the new password you created and you should be able to add and change what you need.herbfargusMembermaybe something like this
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/commit/eb4b4f2f4bf0bc2b4a3e831cee19b2116f5bd021
needs to be added to this?:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/blob/master/scriptmodules/emulators/gpsp.sh
herbfargusMemberYeah I realised that as well. They must have gotten borked up when those things were deleted. I’m currently fixing them for mame4all and then I’ll just copy the columns over to lr-mame4all once I finish. I should have it finished by tonight or tomorrow. Then I’ll just keep those columns locked once its fixed. I just copied the bulk over right now for the parents and bios, I’ll have to sort out the samples afterwards.
Edit: The parents and BIOS columns are now accurate for mame4all and mame4all-libretro, and the mame4all RPi2 status column is complete minus a few probable errors here and there.
herbfargusMembersee this page: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Game-Boy-Advance
F10 lets you access the menu in GPSP
Alternatively you can press x or m as the rom loads and change the default emulator to lr-gpsp which supports the default hotkeys with retroarch (select+right bumper= save, select+left bumper= load)
herbfargusMemberIts by design with retroarch- anytime a joypad is plugged in it overrides the nulbinding of the keyboard, basically you don’t need a hotkey to exit with a keyboard so it doesn’t expect one but with a joypad often you use the hotkey to exit for gameplay (it would be kind of annoying to press start and have it exit instead of starting the game) if you have a joypad plugged in along with your keyboard you can press select on the joypad and ESC on the keyboard to exit. Or you can change the hotkey settings in the setup script to choose alt- then you’ll press alt+ESC to exit.
herbfargusMemberI apologise, I misunderstood your question. Is this what you were referring to?
07/10/2015 at 16:33 in reply to: Problems with MAME due to romset version. Would romcenter or clrmamepro fix it? #101801herbfargusMemberNo problem :) also just one other thing to note some may also need a neogeo bios- those are also listed on the compatibility lists. Good luck!
herbfargusMember07/10/2015 at 15:54 in reply to: Problems with MAME due to romset version. Would romcenter or clrmamepro fix it? #101796herbfargusMemberSo you’ll have to pick the best emulator for the game- sometimes they’ll be interchangeable, sometimes they wont- so I have 3 romsets I rebuilt from the .151 romset. One for mame4all which I put in the mame-mame4all folder, one for FBA (which shows up in FBA rather than mame on emulation station, and one for mame-advmame which shows up as another Mme in emulation station. So I would have 3 duplicates of one ROM of which each may only work on the emulator it was built for. Then I’d just filter through and only keep the one ROM that works the best on each emulator.
herbfargusMemberThere are separate folders for mame because the ROMs are from different romsets- you could have two two pacman ROMs where one will work on advmame and one will work on mame4all.
I don’t think there is any email list- petrockblog has a twitter account he usually announces releases on. But you could also just check the downloads page periodically or follow the source code on github:
herbfargusMemberIs this mame4all or libretro-imame4all? If its just mame4all can’t you just press tab and edit the configs from that menu?
herbfargusMemberUnder the experimental menu you can install one called mupen64plus testing- that has the best results for n64 games but even then they’ll still be hit and miss. I just stick with a PC for n64 games.
See this page:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Nintendo-64Also each new release on the downloads page there is a changelog showing what has been changed/added since the last version. I also keep a page on the wiki updated as well: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Changelogs
herbfargusMemberYour ROMs will still go in the n64 directory you’ll just have new options in the x or m menu as you load a ROM to choose those emulators. You can change the default emulator to your newly installed n64 emulator by pressing x or m as your ROM loads
07/10/2015 at 02:42 in reply to: Problems with MAME due to romset version. Would romcenter or clrmamepro fix it? #101760herbfargusMemberI usually just ssh and copy them over on winscp the only benefit to the USB stick may be if you don’t have a network connection or sometimes it will copy over faster than the network depending on your hardware of course. One thing that you’ll need to take note of are which ROMs are parents and which are clones. If you get clones without parents (like pacman is really a clone of Puckman) they’ll give you a missing ROM error. You can see the compatibility lists on aforementioned managing ROMs wiki page and they list which ROMs need which parents. Usually I’ll just build the whole romset and copy the whole thing over or I’ll build a merged set which puts all the clones in the parent folder (its not the most efficient on space though.) Sometimes rebuilding won’t work regardless (like in my case donkey Kong) and I just had to find an older romset for some of those or at least individual ROMs.
herbfargusMemberThe majority of users on the forum seem to be able to set up their retropie just fine so all I can say is pebcak.
While I will openly admit there are plenty of things retropie can improve on, it is first of all free, so you get what you pay for.
Second of all its open source which means if there is a problem anyone in the community has the opportunity to provide fixes to the source code.
Thirdly there are plenty of people willing to help out on the forum and they will respond much more kindly to constructive feedback rather than criticism, since calling out the people who spend their free time working hard to get things working- at no cost to the user – is probably not the most effective way of solving problems.
And lastly it is quite possible your issues may not even have anything to do with retropie at all considering your issues were constant across the board for all things you tried… Just a thought.
07/09/2015 at 21:59 in reply to: Problems with MAME due to romset version. Would romcenter or clrmamepro fix it? #101743herbfargusMemberMame4all and lr-mame4all use the same romset. I also rebuilt them for fba. I use mame for the older 80’s games and FBA primarily for neogeo. Its really just personal preference- there are minute differences in performance depending on the game, mame4all seemed to be the most responsive. Advmame has more options for sure but the performance isn’t as good with some of the roms
07/09/2015 at 19:04 in reply to: Problems with MAME due to romset version. Would romcenter or clrmamepro fix it? #101729herbfargusMemberClrmamepro will rebuild most of them to be compatible with them. I had the .151 romset and it rebuilt most of my ROMs to work with mame4all. See this page.
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs
herbfargusMemberYeah- lr-mame4all doesn’t have a tab menu- it utilises retroarch configs which can be modified from the rgui or by manually editing the retroarch.cfg file for its respective emulator. If you’re running retropie 3 beta 4 when you configure your controls in emulation station it will automagically configure your controls for retroarch as well.
herbfargusMemberInsufficient power supply. You need a 2A 5V power supply. I use one off amazon by kootek and it suits me well.
herbfargusMemberI think everyone can agree with that- nobody wants to play those games anyways.
herbfargusMember
Ouch merged set brings out my OCD. It’s inefficient space use (when clearing out clones) and more memory being used to open the archive.
But you are right, it is a quick way to do it
I definitely agree with you on that point- that recommendation of building merged sets is under the assumption someone has the space to spare. If you’re able to build a parents only .dat file for things I’m sure the community would be more than appreciative.
As far as uploading files, there are a lot of free upload sites you can host them on and then just provide a link on the wiki once you’ve found somewhere to host them, or you can set up a github account and merge them to the repo I just created:
https://github.com/HerbFargus/RetroPie-Dat-Files
Thanks for your contributions to pifba page :)
