It works with pokemon :p has retroarch configs, it doesn’t lag as much as vba-next on my rpi2.
herbfargusMemberI personally prefer lr-mgba which can be installed from the setup script. But it really just depends on what you’re looking for and what games you’re playing (like lr-gpsp doesn’t work for pokemon…)
herbfargusMemberherbfargusMemberYou can manually install it here:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=109088
But I know for sure that this build is not compiled with joypad support, so its not worth testing if that’s what you’re looking for.
This is the repo that will be automatically updated (hopefully sometime soon)
http://archive.mene.za.net/raspbian/incoming/
But I also think its compiled without joypad support.
herbfargusMemberIt really just depends on how the repo was compiled. I’m pretty sure its disabled by default. Once its updated and it still isn’t enabled then we’ll have to look at compiling it ourselves.
herbfargusMemberHuh. That’s good to know! Learn something new every day. You could try using other emulators like lr-mgba and see if that works, otherwise I haven’t the slightest.
herbfargusMemberFORUM RULES (ALSO ON POSTING IN REGARDS TO ROMS/GAME IMAGES)
If you’re unsure of the file names see the wiki:
herbfargusMemberPretty sure you have to save it with the same emulator in order for it to work.
herbfargusMemberyou could try messing with the output drivers under sound settings and see if that fixes your sound conundrum
herbfargusMembersubmitted a pull request here: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/975
herbfargusMemberI don’t know about drive sounds but you can try adding .prg .PRG to the extensions under the commodore 64 entry in es_systems.cfg (/etc/emulationstation I believe.)
If it works then we can add it to the source code for future releases.
herbfargusMemberThere are two emulators. Libretro-stella and just Stella (which libretro Stella is a port of) default is stella I believe. Thr other uses retroarch configs. You can change the default emulator by pressing a key on the keyboard or js0 on your joypad as your ROM loads (assuming you’re running retropie 3.0- if you aren’t you should look into updating.) If you have a joypad plugged in it overrides the nulbinding of the keyboard and you need to use the joypad hotkey (default select) in order for ESC on the keyboard to work to exit.
herbfargusMembersee this page on the wiki: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/RetroArch-Configuration
herbfargusMemberIf you want to make a distinction between the two mames you’ll have to edit the emulationstation theme so that each emulator pulls a different image. otherwise they will both show up as the same mame image. (you’ll edit the es_systems.cfg under the theme tag to match a new folder you create in /etc/emulationstation/themes/simple)
herbfargusMemberIf you are using lr-stella- select+start on your joypad or select on your joypad and ESC on your keyboard. If you’re just using Stella press tab to open the config menu and I think there is an option to exit from there.
herbfargusMemberI changed the code so that by default video splashscreens will play all the way through before emulationstation loads rather than emulationstation cutting it off. You just need to update your setup script and re-enable auto starting emulationstation from option 3 in the setup script. It will be integrated in future releases.
herbfargusMemberIts probably about as good as it will get right now Unless you’re able to come up with something better.
herbfargusMemberA lot of those probably won’t work as some are proprietary, some are far too much for a pi’s processing to handle, some don’t have an open source code- we need access to the source in order for them to work. But it looked like some did have raspberry pi builds that might work, but I’m not sure of the viability in adding them to retropie but the final say is up to buzz and Florian. I’ll look through them in more detail later and mark which ones are even worth looking at for testing on the pi, and perhaps write up a quick how to on compiling/ tarballs etc so you can try them out yourself.
herbfargusMemberWell now is always a good time to learn :p feel free to post the links. Can’t guarantee anything as I’ve got uni coming up but I wouldn’t mind taking a look.
herbfargusMemberIf it runs on Linux and can be scripted to work on the raspberry pi with retropie’s style guide and has no glaring copyright/ licensing issues it can be added.
herbfargusMembermess is a configuration nightmare. outside of the colecovision (which hopefully in the future will be supported with lr-bluemsx) which systems would it offer that retropie doesn’t already have?
herbfargusMemberand here’s the solution to getting the video to play all the way through:

herbfargusMemberSee the comments on this video as well for hiding text as emulators load:

herbfargusMemberBuilding a repo is tedious and takes time- its unlikely to happen anytime soon. With retropie 3.0 its a lot easier to get up and running from a fresh image- but you can always back up the configs you want and copy them back over after the update. I’m sure updates in the future will improve but the retropie project is always in development- file paths change and settings conflict with changes etc.
And you can update individual binaries without changing your configs. Its a bit of an ask in this day and age to expect something that was given for free to expect it to be perfect. You have to understand that this is free- the developers build it on their free time outside of their day jobs. If you wanted a quick and easy solution then you’re probably best looking somewhere else where you have to pay money for it.
herbfargusMemberPress tab while in game to set your controls, fba2x.cfg has nothing to do with it.
herbfargusMember1 yes- but its not enabled by default- try sudo apt-get install cec-utils
2. I don’t think so
3. Yes but I haven’t tried it myself
4. Yes it will be hopefully soon to kodi 15 and probably not save your settings as there are a lot of changes but I could be wrong.
I’m hoping once the next build comes out we can integrate joypad support and cec support but it all just depends on how its compiled.
See this page:
herbfargusMemberThis should fix your problem:
herbfargusMemberFor legal reasons you’re on your own with the bios. There’s also a way you can use the file manager to copy over the bios. The configs are probably related to lr-gpsp- there is a configs setting for each game, but it doesn’t support all the games which would explain why its not working. Again- try another emulator from the run command menu.
herbfargusMemberI thought it created a bios folder. Its been a while since I last tried it. Do you not have an Ethernet cable or WiFi dobgle? Also did you try switching the emulator as the ROM loads?
herbfargusMemberThere should also be a bios folder along with the ROMs folder that autopopulate when you’ve plugged it in.
This page details how to do it:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/First-Installation
herbfargusMemberMake sure you have the GBA bios in the bios folder
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Game-Boy-Advance
And lr-gpsp doesn’t support some ROMs so try using another emulator as well

I’ve gone up to 18 before it failed.
