I just did a standard binary based installation for all my emulators – most of them work fine.

I did however get very frustrated with the controller configuration in gpsp as it wasn’t saving at all. because of this I decided to install lr-gpsp, however now it still uses gpsp by default and I’m not sure how to change that. Can anybody help me out?

Hey guys, I’ve had the same issue with having to configure every time I open the emulator, but have been unable to fix it with that code?

I’ve tried everything I can think if but nobody seems to have a solution?

Help would be much appreciated – really don’t wanna have to configure controller every time I play.

I was dissapointed to see you have no replies because I have the exact same problem? I’m using an N64 USB controller which works fine on most emulators like SNES, but all the buttons are mixed up on GBA?? It makes little sense to me – there’s nothing that would screw anything up in the gba retroarch.cfg so I have no idea?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Just gonna jump in on that controller question:

I set up my RetroPie about a week ago, and I started using an old wired xbox controller I had. It worked fairly well, and did everything it had to.

However, I also recently purchased some USB N64 controllers to use instead, as I thought that they would be more authentic, and feel more retro.

I HIGHLY reccomend using N64 controllers – they work a treat. I mostly emulate SNES games, so while a SNES controller would seem like an obvious choice, the N64 controller works I think much better.

For starters, the N64 controller has a D-pad and analog stick, but unlike an xbox controller, both work to control the SNES D-pad, even though I’ve configured the analog stick as an analog stick.

The Z trigger I’ve set to select, which works well, and whilst the N64 has no X or Y buttons, 2 of the C buttons are automatically used as x and y when playing SNES games.

There is no better alternative in my mind.

There is a large range of choice of N64 controllers out there, personally I went for some fairly cheap ones, but they work great and I reccomend them:

Sorry for the rant about controllers, just thought I’d let you know how great I think these are xD

Thank you for the reply, I had read that page, and I must admit I don’t totally understand how the controls bit of the .atari800.cfg file works. I did try the default keyboard controls listed though but could not get them to work.

I’m not 100% sure what emulator I’m using, although I think it’s something along the lines of mupen64 as that crops up a lot in the code when a game is launching.

As for the folders I only seem to have the plane old n64 folder? There’s a c64 but I believe that’s a different console altogether?

    Thank you for your help.
I’m currently running the stock 2.6.0 image with Tech Tipsta’s N64 configurations. I’m on of those “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” kinda guys, but I also want the most out of my RPi2. Is there a reason to update the emulators to their most recent versions? Is anyone here involved in the development of them? I’d love to hear about performance improvements that have happened since image 2.6 was released. Thanks!
Does your N64 emulator run smoothly? I’ve been struggling to get mine to work, the games that do run are really slow and blurred.

    What are these configurations?

I’m afraid I can’t help with your solution, but I have a question of my own which you may be able to answer:

I just managed to get the atari800 emulator working and running .atr/.ATR files, the games open and everything but I have no idea how to control anything.

I am currently using 2 USB wired N64 controllers, which I’ve configured through retroarch.cfg and they work great in libretro emulators (NES, SNES, GB, GBC, etc.).

However I can use neither these or the USB keyboard I have plugged in to control these games? The most I’ve managed to get is firing a ball in “Pong 2” but I’ve tried seemingly all controls on the N64 controllers and keyboard and I can’t for the life of me get the paddles to move.
[I also tried asteroids but couldn’t get past what looked like a demo sequence or menu].

Any help or even just pointing me to another forum would be much appreciated.
Try:

    cd RetroPie-Setup
    sudo ./retropie_packages.sh hotkeys

Option 3 should do the trick. RGUI opens if you press ESC. Select “Quit Retroarch” to close Retroarch.

Be aware if you plug in a controller with configured hotkeys it is necessary to press the input_enable_hotkey_btn (select) to enable keyboard hotkeys like exit (ESC) or RGUI (F1). Retroarch makes no difference between keyboard keys and joypad buttons.
Thank you for the reply. When I enter that second command, it errors and says “No module ‘hotkeys’ found for platform rpi1”

Any idea on what to do? Sorry I’m so useless.
