FloobMember
This may help – its how I use an iBuffalo USB with N64
FloobMemberThe defaults are stored in:
/home/pi/.emulationstation/gamelistsThis may also help:
FloobMemberWhich version of RetroPie are you using?
2.4.0 and up allows you to press “x” as the game loads to set the resolution.FloobMemberYep – you need the MS wireless receiver
FloobMemberThis should help:
FloobMemberI would use 2.5.0, that would be the easiest bet.
FloobMemberAre you using a 2.4.x or 2.5.0 image?
If so, press “x” as the game boots up to get into the video mode section.FloobMemberI’ve always had good luck with this link
https://www.petrockblock.com/download/retropie-sd-card-image-v2-4-2-beta/
FloobMemberIn the second video in the playlist above, I show it at about 02:30 in.
FloobMemberHmm, that should work out of the box – I know my 3rd party xbox wired controller did.
You could use the RetroPie setup and install the xbox driver (at the bottom of the setup menu I think) and try again.FloobMemberCheck out the DMT modes here:
http://elinux.org/RPiconfig#VideoThese are settings for /boot/config.txt
FloobMemberI’m sure it wont be far away.
In the meantime, this image works well for Pi 2 if you dont want to update your existing one:FloobMemberYou could try using the RetroPie setup script – under Audio it should have an option to force audio via HDMI.
FloobMemberThanks for your comment, glad it was helpful.
Yes, if you watch the emulation 101 video or the how to load roms video, it will show you.The link is in my signature.
FloobMemberI may be simplifying, but maybe start your clean install with this approach to your wireless controller and see if that works fine as is. I have mine set to use 1 wireless and, as per the video, I write a new auto file for it.
FloobMemberHave you tried these guides?
If so, please let me know if there are some issues and I’ll try to talk you through it. Can you let me know which controller you have?
FloobMemberWhich exact controller are you using?
FloobMemberOk, I’ll schedule one. At the moment I’m thinking of doing vids on
MAME setups
N64 Emulation
RPi 2 speed increaseFloobMemberThey go here:
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/megadriveThe MegaDrive is called Genesis in North America, but MegaDrive everywhere else.
FloobMemberIf you only put a few roms in they may be clones that need parent files. Its easiest to copy the full set if you arent sure.
Do you know what version the romset is, it has to be 0.37b5 to work.To get the gamepads working check these videos:
FloobMemberIt appears for me when i press Start on my controller.
FloobMemberI would be very tempted to use the 2.4.2 image, then you dont need to update from source or binary as its all already installed. Pretty much no extra config needed at all then.
Then you would need to make sure you have the 0.37b5 romset (It has 2271 zip files in it), and put it into
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame (This is the dir mame4all will look in)I have put some info on mame versions here:
FloobMemberRoms in here will run ok: (The permissions you have look fine.)
~/RetroPie/roms/mame-advmamebut it uses a different emulator, and can use a newer romset.
If you put them in
~/RetroPie/roms/mame you need to make sure they are version 0.37b5.Saying that I’m sure ADVMAME uses tab to configure still, so that should work, but the performance in the mame directory will be better (as that runs mame4all-pi).
hmm, about the locale, I’ve not changed it as I’m in UK. but then it shouldnt present a problem keeping it as that for you. Maybe something has changed in the 2.4 build to remove that – I need to check when I get home.
FloobMemberI thought mame4all runs great? Maybe thats just my view, but running it against the 0.37b5 romset is really responsive on a B+. I use gngeo for the newer SNK roms though (MAME 0.138)
FloobMemberhmm, I’ll take a look later.
I know that mame4all is looking good on my 26″ LCD, I havent changed any options from the default in /boot/config.txt, just tweaked the display_border value in the mame4all cfg.
Could it be worth trying a different display/tv on the off chance that affects it?FloobMemberDoes changing the display_border value help in the mame4all config?
Some config options mentioned here:
https://code.google.com/p/mame4all-pi/FloobMemberThats odd that pressing tab isnt working for you.
I presume you have put the roms in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame ?When the game has loaded, hitting tab should bring up the menu – I guess your keybaord is detected ok as Esc works. Could you try a different keyboard?
I guess you could wipe your cfg file for it, but that seems extreme. I forget the path for that at the moment, but I think its somewhere near /opt/retropie/configs/mame4all I think.
I have a video showing the button config on my signature link.
For those other systems, you would want retroarch – check my videos for controller configs.
FloobMemberIf you put the roms in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame then mame4all will run them, and it needs 0.37b5.
The easiest way is to get that romset directly, it is about if you google.
Otherwise you could rebuild a 0.37b5 set from a newer one following the wiki article. I’ll try to make a video about it soon to make it clear, as I know there are a lot of options.FloobMemberMore details here:
02/03/2015 at 00:07 in reply to: Xbox 360 controller joystick not working/gui changed when drivers installed #86433FloobMemberThats not the best view of it all to be honest, its not showing a lot of the top level folders.
Connect to it with a terminal session or an FTP client to see all the folders.
To run the config, you would need a terminal session anyway (or run direct). This shows how to do it with 2.3, but its the same pretty much with 2.4.
About 23 minutes in to configure a controller.
About 11 mins to see how to connect with a terminal session.FloobMemberOk, thats promising.
That means that they are both being picked up from the auto config folder.
This command will show those files, it will also show if you set them up, or they are stock versions. (Assuming you are on 2.4, other wise use RetroArch instead of retroarch)ls -lah /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/configs/
(Check the timestamps on the files)Perhaps there is a stock file in there, that is detecting your controller but has the wring button mappings set.
Also, make sure you havent specified anything in your main retroarch.cfg for controllers.
FloobMemberDoes this help?
http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/
FloobMemberIn 2.4 when you run a game, a black screen comes up for about a second before the game starts, it says press x or m to configure the video.
If you press that, you can set the screen res for that emulator.
Or you can manually tweak it in /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
FloobMemberWhen I put two controllers in, I configure them both with the auto config script in RetroPie and it will write the output files for each. RetroArch emulators then happily pick up both files.
My retroarch.cfg is set to use the auto files, and I make sure it doesnt have hardcoded reference to the controllers in itself in case that conflicts with the auto files. When you start a rom are both controllers showing up in yellow text as the game starts? Perhaps you could post the “ls -lah” output of the directory /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/configs/
FloobMemberDoes this info help?
