On this point:
====
– You can set up a custom saves and/or save state directory in configs/all/retroarch.cfg. However, all systems will dump into the same directory, even if those properties are set again in their system-specific configs. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong here, but it seems like the inherited value isn’t being overwritten.
=====Can you attach an example of your custom system specific retroarch.cfg file (and say which system it is)?
Or put it on pastebin.FloobMemberThe default is FCEUmm
http://wiki.libretro.com/index.php?title=FCEUmmYou can change this when you start up a game, press x or m, this will bring you to a menu screen that lets you change the emulator.
The other choice there is nestopia
http://wiki.libretro.com/index.php?title=Nestopia
https://github.com/libretro/nestopiaFloobMemberYes, its a feature request. Hopefully the guys at ES will act on that or similar soon.
FloobMemberWell, you should be able to put it in the BIOS folder, but gngeo appears to refuse to look there even if you edit its config file.
You may need to wait for something like this unless the emulator you use is happy to accept the neogeo.zip in a different dir.FloobMemberAlthough there are “default” native resolutions, some games dont follow the rules, so its not 100% accurate unfortunately. Bear in mind some of those links in your first post show the res I wanted to display the output in, not the native resolution. For example I increased the GB to about 1.75 times the native size.
Jaguar
Max resolution – 800×576ZX Spectrum
256 × 192N64
240p (320×240), 288p (384×288), 480i (640×480), 576i (720×576)PS1
320×240Cave Story
320×240Virtual Boy
384×224FloobMemberThe attached should help.
FloobMemberAttached to this post.
Rename to .cfgFloobMemberOk, I think its the spacing next to the hashes maybe.
Try replacing:
/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfgwith this contents
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=VJhK2qpyI’ve also attached it, renamed as .txt
Here are the main diffs, mine are in green:
http://s6.postimg.org/4php5s75t/diffs.pngFloobMemberAre you using the inbuilt ES scraper, or the separate sselph one?
FloobMemberCould you post your retroarch file on pastebin for me to see?
And let me know which emulator and game you are testing against? This file:
/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfgFloobMember
Nothing has changed in the tetrarch.cfg file to my knowledge.
I’ve just realised that the -32767 was put in by me when the -1 etc wasn’t working. I’ve deleted the config file again and recreated it so it now shows 1 rather than 32767.
The result.
Still no D-Pad!
And the quote marks look correct? No odd ones?
Which game and emulator are you trying? I’ll try the same.
I’m assuming the yellow text appears at the bottom of the screen when you start a game?FloobMemberHave you tried changing
input_up_axis = "-32767" input_down_axis = "+32767" input_left_axis = "-32767" input_right_axis = "+32767"
to
input_up_axis = "-1" input_down_axis = "+1" input_left_axis = "-0" input_right_axis = "+0"
The only other difference on mine, is that my first line says
input_device = “USB Gamepad ”
rather than
input_device = “USB gamepad ”but then I think thats specific to my controller so I wouldnt worry about that.
If you manually change it to the -1 etc.. above make sure the quotes are just as the other examples in the file (or just dont change them basically).
I’m assuming you havent changed anything in any of the retroarch.cfg files.
FloobMemberYou have some squiffy quote marks there. Are they like that in your file, or all standard?
You have a mix of:
“ ″ ”Autoenable is on by default, if you can keep it on it can make things easier, but if you only ever use one type of controller you could turn it off like herbfargus says.
You can set a specific controller per emulator within retroarch, but lets try getting the auto file working.Maybe you can your file up here so we can see it?
I’m just wondering about those quotesFloobMemberYes, I’ve just been looking at this. There does seem to be some questionable settings in the default USB_Gamepad_.cfg
A quick way of updating this to ensure it is specific to your exact controller is to run the setup script for your retroarch controller.
So
sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh
Option 3 – Setup
Option 320 – Configure input devices for RetroArchFloobMemberIf you are using advmame on a Pi2 with RetroPie 3, the config file is here:
/opt/retropie/configs/mame-advmame/advmame-1.2.rc
In that file, the rom path is set here:
dir_rom /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-advmameYou can always change that path if you want.
FloobMemberWell the mame4all specific config file is
/opt/retropie/configs/mame-mame4all/mame.cfgIn that file you can adjust a border here:
display_border=0but I think the defaut is 0.
Maybe you need to make sure your monitor is set correctly here?
http://elinux.org/RPiconfig#VideoThis is done in
/boot/config.txtFloobMemberCan you confirm which arcade emulator you are running?
We can probably tell from the path the roms are in. Depending on the emulator it will have a different config file.
Here are the options:
FloobMemberYep.
FloobMemberWhen you start a game, a black screen comes up with an option to press x to set the emulator you want to use.
FloobMemberIt may help if there was a newbie forum, where a sticky emphasizing the Wiki and some help videos was in place. Called “Start Here” or something.
That might head off the common, repetitive questions?Maybe even a few stickies in that forum, or a FAQ post.
As currently the same questions are asked again and again.
Separately, it might be an idea to dedicate a forum to controllers as this is one area its tricky to predefine in RetroPie – maybe it would help build more and more configs for known controllers. It could also be used to explain in a sticky what files are read for controller settings.
If newbie questions and controllers were out of the main forum, maybe that would thin it out a bit?
FloobMemberThe 2 links above show how to make sure your romsets are valid, and also which directory to copy files to. Both links have quite detailed info. CPS can be run using most of the 6 arcade emulators on the Pi. fba-libretro will run the CPS3.
If you need more info, please provide which of the emulators you are using and any issues you have:
FloobMemberTo confirm, are you running mame4all or mame-libretro?
You get to pick as the game starts (you press x to choose which emulator and video mode etc..)
The video above relates to mame4all
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mame4allpi/mame-libretro uses the key mappings in your retroarch setup. (Although I dont think I’ve ever used this emulator – shout if you want me to fire it but the mame4all should do it fine)
04/16/2015 at 20:25 in reply to: Retropie 3 beta 2 issue – unable to 'Configure Retroarch Controller' #95168FloobMemberOk, in that case, when you run games via retroarch it is processing this file for your controls:
/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/configs/USB_Gamepad_.cfg
You can read this by typing
“sudo nano /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/configs/USB_Gamepad_.cfg”Assuming you havent edited
/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg or
/opt/retropie/configs/{systemname}/retroarch.cfgthen the first file above is how it works out its controls.
You can check the file matches your controller buttons with jstest
If it doesnt match, just reconfigure it using the wizard here (or do it manually if you want):
“sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh”Then choose
3- Setup
320 – Configure input devices for RetroArchFloobMemberEmulation Station is a front end, it doesn’t emulate anything itself.
I would have thought the Pi would struggle to emulate the systems you have listed, but maybe someone can correct me.
FloobMemberYes, you can change hotkeys. This gives an overview
FloobMemberYep – plenty listed here:
https://github.com/libretro/fba-libretro/blob/master/svn-current/trunk/gamelist.txtThe Arcade emulators that are packaged with RetroPie are listed here:
FloobMemberThis shows where the paths are now:
04/15/2015 at 21:21 in reply to: Retropie 3 beta 2 issue – unable to 'Configure Retroarch Controller' #95033FloobMemberWhen you start a game, do you get yellow text at the bottom of the screen showing you which file it is loading for your controller?
If you post that file here, it may help us work out why it is ignoring some buttons.
FloobMember
Solved by myself:
I have recompiled the libretro-fba project from the repository:
https://github.com/libretro/libretro-fba (2015-04-15)
And Neogeo savestates work flawlessly on Raspberry Pi 2.
The default in RetroPie is fba-libretro
https://github.com/libretro/fba-libretroas opposed to libretro-fba
A bit confusing, but there you go.
Discussion on it here:
FloobMemberThats weird, it should let you map credits to joypad.
FloobMemberCould you just write the 3.0 image to a card and not use berryboot?
FloobMemberHas your B got 256MB or 512MB?
GnGeo works pretty well on my B 256 though, so it shouldnt be an issue.
I’ve posted details about the neogeo bios file here for gngeo:
http://smartretro.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=44FloobMember04/14/2015 at 23:17 in reply to: Retropie 3 beta 2 issue – unable to 'Configure Retroarch Controller' #94904FloobMember
Keys X and Y are not being recognized in any Retroarch emulator (tested with playstation and n64).
I dont have any N64 or PS1 games to hand, but I just tried this with SNES and Megadrive and it seems fine for me. I’m using an iBuffalo USB joypad.
FloobMemberIs your neogeo.zip file passed as valid by clrmamepro and it exists in your rom folder?
Is the dat file you used this one?
http://smartretro.co.uk/forums/download/file.php?id=17I quite like GnGeo as its pretty fast and uses a newer romset.
