Which version of RetroPie are you using?
Have you read this?https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/RetroArch-Configuration
FloobMemberYes, you can apply an overlay (for retroarch) on a per system basis, you edit the /opt/retropie/configs/{systemname}/retroarch.cfg file.
You may find this useful
FloobMemberBetween when its working ok, and creates the .bak file what happens?
Just a restart? What does the retroarch controller folder look like before and after?
Does ES prompt you to re-enter the controller details at any point?03/01/2016 at 14:02 in reply to: Shaders: How to enabled it? And where? (Retropie virgin inside) #118701FloobMemberYou’ll need to access that folder by FTP or SSH.
You can use FileZilla for example.FloobMemberDont forget to check the Wiki

Yes, add that shader line (with a valid path), but remove the # as this tells the system to ignore the line.
I’d watch the video through as it explains with visual examples.
You may find this tool would work for you as it edits the files for you:
FloobMemberYou mean with a keyboard encoder?
I cover it a bit here – basically edit the retroarch.cfg with the keys that the encoder sends.02/29/2016 at 22:56 in reply to: Shaders: How to enabled it? And where? (Retropie virgin inside) #118634FloobMemberYes you can access it on your local connection. Use the path I show above to amend individual systems – the file you show will edit all systems – which is fine if thats what you want to do.
FloobMemberYes, as per the comment by hobbswon.
Also, make sure you follow the wiki guide for Jessie (as you are using RetroPie 3.5), not for Wheezy.FloobMemberYou should be able to find those details in the Wiki
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Nintendo-6402/29/2016 at 21:23 in reply to: Shaders: How to enabled it? And where? (Retropie virgin inside) #118614FloobMemberThis video is a little dated, but it should give you the gist
Basically you set your shader in the file (for each system)
/opt/retropie/configs/{systemname}/retroarch.cfghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owsdsyIDU6A&ab_channel=Floob
FloobMemberBought. Hopefully here tomorrow.
I like the sound of the inbuilt Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. I’ll have to see if it happily works with the 8bitdo controllers.FloobMemberThe file you edited is for retroarch emulation, but it looks like you are using the non-retroarch based emulator.
Try using the lr-mupen64plus
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Nintendo-64Although to be honest the N64 is one of the trickier systems to get up and running as a lot of the games still arent that well supported.
Are you going to set it up with the arcade emulators?
FloobMemberWhich theme are you using?
The text description will start auto scrolling after a few seconds of no input on the controller.Do you have a screenshot?
02/26/2016 at 15:49 in reply to: POLL: Which default video mode do you prefer? (video_smooth on or off) #118237FloobMemberI like both…
OFF – to make it more clear to users that the view is unaltered. That then (I think) makes the process of changing video settings more clear. Otherwise you tend to get posts saying “Why does the video look all blurry”. That said, having smooth as on can often be enough to give that CRT look for many people.
ON – I like this setting in combination with scanline overlays, as I feel it gives the best representation of how I remember CRT gaming.
Horses for courses I guess.
FloobMemberUpdate your controller file here:
/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/{controller-file.cfg}The SFC30 doesnt create the correct buttons, so change them to the correct ones – this is shown in the video on the Wiki.
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Setting-up-a-Bluetooth-controllerOr just use the codes shown here:
https://github.com/libretro/retroarch-joypad-autoconfig/blob/master/udev/8Bitdo-SFC30-GamePad-Bluetooth-Mode(START%2BR).cfgIn terms of the file being overwritten – as long as you dont reconfgiure your controller each time it should be fine. Just update the file as above, save it (maybe open it up and make sure changes are in there) and remove any controller files you dont need including the .bak. Then when you reboot it should go straight into ES – does it ask you to reconfigure the joypad? Do you update it via SSH?
FloobMemberThis may help:
FloobMemberYes, itss pretty much as dankcushions has said.
Here is a video to show the principle of just making the config change you need and how to save it.FloobMember@hobbswon
Check the bottom of the Wiki here for another way to keep scanning:
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Setting-up-a-Bluetooth-controllerFloobMemberYep – the link above covers that really well, the .ape are typically audio tracks that you can convert to .bin then merge back into a single .bin that the .cue file then has pointers to the various audio files.
Here is an example of the WipeOut2097 cue file pointing to where the audio is in the single .bin file: http://pastebin.com/raw/NaaPNrnh
Takes about 20min to get your head around it the first time, but when youve done it once its quick and easy to run through it for lots of games (or at least the games that have embedded audio tracks).
FloobMemberIf those extra bins are audio tracks, you can merge them into one like this:
http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?57757-ECM-And-APE-GuidePSX Video:
FloobMemberYou might find it easier to use PuTTY
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.htmlThen when you connect, use “sudo nano /boot/config.txt”
FloobMemberWhich if these emulators were you using to play Neo Geo?
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMsFloobMemberIts likely that the process is expecting to see the boxart in a different location if you have upgraded.
See: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/issues/1264FloobMemberYou only disable the hotkey enable button, so you still have hotkeys, its just they can be pressed on their own. This often isnt practical with joypads, but can work well with keyboard encoders, like you often have in bartops etc..
FloobMemberYou can set the hotkey to be nul like I do here:
input_enable_hotkey = nul
FloobMemberReally cool. I like it :)
FloobMemberIts X on my controller, you can see a video running through it here:
Also covers config files.FloobMember@patl Yes, thats really effective. Although I still mostly use your overlays – so thanks very much for the work you put into those. :)
FloobMemberPlease see this thread:
FloobMember@patl I imagine all the issues are as per the link posted above and its simply that there are only 3 shaders in the directory specified, and the next/previous feature doesnt traverse sub directories.
So you could get round it by either moving some shaders around, setting your paths manually to look at a different dir or just manually setting a system specific config to load the one you want.
Maybe I’m in a minority but I tend to find one I like and stick with it rather than scroll through loads.
Have you tried davej shader?
FloobMemberI think the MODE value should be in quotes
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Setting-up-a-Bluetooth-controller
FloobMember@epicrean
That video is a little dated now, I have a newer one, but try the menu option in the experimental section as herbfargus says, as this should work without issue.
You only really need to do it manually if you want to tweak the flags set etc..FloobMemberI think that only has an “iCade” mode, so I’m not sure quite how that plays with a standard connection. The 8bitdo pads can connect as keyboard, joypad, iCade or just with a USB cable, but I guess I could set mine to iCade mode and see if I can connect.
Does your controller have a manual or spec sheet?
FloobMemberHave you expanded your filesystem?
