The safest way would be to get a new card and write the RC1 image to it and recreate your settings, but if you are on b2, if you update the retropie script and choose to update the binaries, that should update you.
Either way, making a backup will be safest.
FloobMemberYes, all as herbfargus has said really.
It depends on which current version of RetroPie you are running to how successful the upgrade will be, coming from 2.6 will almost certainly bring issues – its a much better idea then just to start with a fresh image.
If you want to tweak your controller settings over and above the setup that EmlationStation can now offer you, you can find your retroarch based controller settings in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/
To page up and down in ES, you can use the shoulder buttons on the controller.
To “correctly” (I put that in quotes as there isnt really a correct way), I tend to save as you have done in RGUI – this will produce a brand new file in /opt/retropie/configs/{systemname}/
Do this with and without your tweaks (a second file ending in -1 will be produced. Then use a file compare process to see the changes – there will likely only be a few lines different.
Then take those lines and add them to /opt/retropie/configs/{systemname}/retroarch.cfgOr an easier way would be to rename the file generated above by RGUI to retroarch.cfg, but I wouldnt recommend that as it will screw with the way RetroPie wants to read things.
If you are feeling brave, you can try my video editing tool which will do it (change your video res) for you.
How to get perfect video scaling and list of recommended resolutions
FloobMemberCan you confirm the error is
“Failed to load /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/snes/Super Mario RPG – Legend of the Seven Stars.state”
and there isnt a number on the end of that, i.e. its not trying to load stat3 or anything?
07/23/2015 at 20:49 in reply to: How to get perfect video scaling and list of recommended resolutions #102599FloobMemberThanks for the feedback. I really need to write more documentation for it and update it a bit more. The issue is that it is really difficult not to get it to affect users settings if they have heavily customised them. I’ll try to update it soon, and when its a bit more stable I’ll create a new topic.
07/23/2015 at 00:10 in reply to: Problem with MAME buttons "1P" and "Coins" with arcade controller #102548FloobMemberMetal Slug seems to play fine in lr-fba. Although I often use gngeo for snk games. It might be worth checking your romsets.

I touch on rom specific configs here:
FloobMemberWhen you do “ls -lah” what are the permissions shown on that file you want to load (and what are the permissions on the saves that do load?)
07/22/2015 at 21:08 in reply to: Problem with MAME buttons "1P" and "Coins" with arcade controller #102533FloobMemberYes, I use the suggestion HerbFargus made, its often the easiest way.
So for example, manually add this line
input_enable_hotkey_btn = “4”(Assuming that 4 is the button you want to act as the enable hotkey, thats the left shoulder on my ibuffalo usb joypad)
into this file
/opt/retropie/configs/fba/retroarch.cfg(Or whichever mame type system you are using, maybe yours is mame-mame4all)

I have problems to keep my settings saved in Retroarch GUI. When i use the “save new config” option, it will save but not in retroarch.cfg
Yes, you’ll need to rip some settings out of the file that was created (or you could just rename it retroarch.cfg, but that will screw with a few things.).
If you are feeling brave you can use this tool (although PLEASE make a backup – as I cant guarantee it wont break other settings):
https://mega.co.nz/#!2NAUwbAL!BrgkCCWMerAxKDDE_0LYtR2qKjkDN26QZbDrIuIJ_28Put it in your home (/home/pi) directory and
unzip -o rp-video-manager-11-JUL-2015.zip
rm rp-video-manager-11-JUL-2015.zip
cd /home/pi/rp-video-manager
chmod 755 videomanager.sh
./videomanager.shFloobMember
Any improvements at this issue? A favourites function is so much needed!

Is this what you mean?
https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation/issues/112FloobMemberYes, its horses for courses.
Personally I love the small footprint (and low cost) of the Pi.As robertybob says, one swap of the SD card, and your Pi can be doing something completely different.
07/20/2015 at 20:19 in reply to: 1080p scaling and scanlines without borders from integer scaling #102387FloobMemberIts certainly making interesting reading!
As has been mentioned a few times, people will often have their own preference of how to implement their memory of how it all used to look on their CRT, so its very hard to come up with a perfect solution.
I’ll try to add more options into my video manager tool so people can quickly flip between different ways of doing this and choosing what they prefer.FloobMemberDo any of your hotkey combos work?
FloobMemberHi,
Please raise new questions in a new thread, just so we can track more easily. I’ll close this thread off.
PLEASE dont post anything in this thread.
FloobMember
The first screen where you set up your controller for retroarch emulators is brilliant. Just a quick question:
What about fba and mame controls? Can you implement the fba2x.cfg file to be auto-created on the start up controller page too?
I’m not a developer but I’m sure this could be investigated by the devs.
FloobMember
wicd-curses package seems to be missing – no wifi.
Thats right, but then it should jump on a connection and auto download. I see what youre saying though.
If you raise it as an issue here it can be investigated
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/issuesFloobMemberHave you verified your fba-libretro romset?
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMsIt must be FBA 0.2.97.30 as per the info in the link above.
Then just put your roms in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba-libretro (for RetroPie 2.6.0)Or are you saying it runs, just slowly?
If so, have you overclocked the Pi, and made sure it has a 2A power supply?FloobMemberIf I was you I’d be tempted to remove those configs with
“rm /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/*.cfg”Then run the controller registration for retroarch.
You can do this with
“sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/./retropie_setup.sh”Then choose 3 – Setup
Then “Configure input devices for RetroArch”That will then prompt you to press the buttons on your controller.
This video shows how to set the analogue stick to work as well.
FloobMemberThats quite cool! What steps did you take to set it as a boot up video?
FloobMemberCan you confirm you used the image for the Pi2 (as there is one for the Pi1 as well)
When you say it doesnt boot – is that just a black screen?
FloobMemberNot sure if its what you are after, but here are some overlays on PSX, I quite like the effect, but you may prefer another way of doing it.
FloobMemberIf you are using RetroPie 3 beta 4, and the config via Emulation Station isnt working for you, try removing the files here
“cd /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads”
Then you can see whats there with “ls”
You can delete them all
“rm *.cfg”Then recreate by running the retropie-setup script and choosing the register retroarch joypad option.
FloobMemberYep, certainly just seems to be that rom with the ones I checked, the rest seemed fine.
There is a comment on cropping here:
http://emulation-general.wikia.com/wiki/Nintendo_Entertainment_System_emulatorsFloobMemberYes, I got the same issue, but it was fine when I changed emulator.
Sorry, I’m using RetroPie 3 beta 4, I forgot thats not there in 2.6.0.I’m struggling to remember the 2.6.0 filesystem layout.
Do you have a couple of nes sounding directories here?
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/07/12/2015 at 20:30 in reply to: [SOLVED] Hotkeys configuration : Switch the shaders ingame (Retropie v.3b4) #101941FloobMemberI just gave this a go and I get the same results.
Its fine in RetroPie 3 beta 2.My log file was

I’ll raise an issue on Github.
FloobMemberOk, looks like it may be emulator specific.
As the game starts, press x, and choose nestopia as the default emulator.Other games seem fine with the default FCEUmm emulator.
FloobMemberAs a first step I’d set the overscan and all other video settings in the /boot/config.txt back to default (comment out). Also make sure the output (via the menu accesses by x) is set to your TV output i.e. 720 or 1080p.
Is that a TV or monitor you have there? Is it 1080p?
Then try it on another TV/monitor to check if it any different.
FloobMemberAlthough I’m not 100% clear on what you want the output to be, you can change the resolution that the output is set by pressing x as the game starts and choose the res for that system.
FloobMemberI’m not sure thats possible to be honest:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pifba/files/I’ll let you know if I find a way.
07/12/2015 at 15:57 in reply to: "Playstation emulator – PCSX (arm optimised) port for libretro" – how to?? #101921FloobMemberThats great news.
If you want to switch between emulators for a given system, press x as the game starts to get to the emulator selection screen.07/12/2015 at 00:40 in reply to: "Playstation emulator – PCSX (arm optimised) port for libretro" – how to?? #101903FloobMemberWell, my 2p on this is, especially for beginners, is dont try to update from 2.6 to a newer version, as the paths and some key files differ dramatically.
I would be tempted to use 3 beta 4, then for a start you will find that lr-pcsx-rearmed is already installed (I dont remember if it is or not on 2.6)When you download and use an image, all the emulators will be already installed and ready to use (except for the experimental ones).
Here is a vid:
Try writing 3 beta 4 to your card, then dont update the binaries or script, as there shouldnt really be a need unless you want to get an update to something thats fixed since late June. Plus if you are on a specific version like 3 beta 4, its easier to get support as everyone will know exactly what your setup is.
FloobMemberIf you want to make manual changes (i.e. whilst scraping) to a gamelist.xml, exit ES, then make the changes.
07/11/2015 at 18:46 in reply to: 1080p scaling and scanlines without borders from integer scaling #101880FloobMemberCan you confirm if your settings in the first post are geared to a particular system (is it just imame4all-libretro)? Then I can make sure I make it so it only affects that system.
You should back up your image as you have made so many tweaks – you dont want to lose it!
http://smartretro.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5807/11/2015 at 15:17 in reply to: 1080p scaling and scanlines without borders from integer scaling #101854FloobMemberThanks for putting so much effort into looking at a way of improving the video output. I’ll try them out soon.
If you like, I could look to incorporate your settings as an option in the video manager tool I have, so that users dont need to make any changes in RGUI, and you can change the settings per system.
You are welcome to test out the latest version here.
BE WARNED it will overwrite custom settings you may have had, so dont try this on a setup you have spent weeks tweaking. Its set to work with RetroPie 3, not 2.6.
https://mega.co.nz/#!2NAUwbAL!BrgkCCWMerAxKDDE_0LYtR2qKjkDN26QZbDrIuIJ_28When copied to your home directory
unzip -o rp-video-manager-11-JUL-2015.zip cd /home/pi/rp-video-manager chmod 755 videomanager.sh ./videomanager.sh
FloobMemberEmulation Station can almost do that now
– Go to a given system so that you get the list of games
– Press select
– Select “Sort games by”
– Choose “Last Played”Although this is a per system view, its not far off what you want.
