Well I was planning to just scrape the boxart from thegamesdb.net along with the other info, it would just be stored locally to your pi.

Two controllers seem to have a problem. I think its just the usb drivers for 360. They seem to be conflicting with one another.

You also may be using the wrong controller index (That was the issue with my xbox 360 controller).

Once it’s connected and the green light is on, go into terminal and navigate to /dev/input/ and find a device called js<number>. Take that number and use that in joyconfig. Mine for example, was index 1 not 0 so mine wouldn’t work until I set it up.

In command.txt in /boot/ you need to add disable_splash=1 and save it off, than reboot. You shouldn’t see it anymore.

it might actually be called config.txt, you’ll know which one it is when you see similar disable_* flags in it. I do know it’s in /boot/ though. Sorry, don’t have my pi near me right now to check for sure.

He said that he is currently working on a version that’s a little more flexible, but he didn’t want the themeing engine to be a scripting language so it wont be very extravagant.

    trimmtrabb,

joystick is already installed, so I just ran the command, and it said ‘file not found’, which lead me to believe js0 was invalid. So, I ‘cd’ to /dev/input and found out that the pi is assigning the controllers js2 and js3, so I went into retroarch.cfg and changed the indexes to match, and low and behold, they both work!

Thanks for the tips in getting this setup!

petrockblock, There is a registered channel on the IRC network freenode called #retropie, although nobody is in it right now, that could be used as the official retropie channel.

Somebody by the nickname rStensen owns it, perhaps we could see if they could give owership over to you.

You can use http://www.mibbit.com/chat/ to connect to the FreeNode IRC network, and join #retropie to join the IRC channel. I could help you get it setup if it’s something you’d be interested in. I personally prefer IRC over forums as you generally get more individualized help, and usually in a faster response time since people are usually always available.

Here’s an updated video of what i’ve gotten done so far:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsjG0fDC-jI

After this video was taken, I went on quite a binge to tighten up some stuff, and it’s just about finished, so I will post pictures of the finished product hopefully tomorrow!

Please give me you comments in this post or on the youtube channel with your thoughts!

BTW: How do I include a picture in the topic title, like others have ?

Hmm, do you know how to get player 2 to work? Its another xbox 360 controller. I went in and copied the button layout as player 1, and changed everything over to player 2, and changed the index to 2 for it, and theres no response in the emulator. The 2nd led on the 360 is illuminated, but it’s not working. (Also, I think the emulator has the controller backwards, as me and my wife are playing zombies at my neighbor on snes, and with the player one controller, when you press start to play, it accepts the right start not the left one (indicating second player)

any idea what the issue could be?
Does someone have a detailed description on how to install this theme? I’m pretty much a noob in the whole Linux/Raspberry Pi world, so any help would be appriciated. :)
Unzip the contents to you hdd than use a secure ftp client to transfer the entire contents inside of ‘my skin’ folder into your .emulationstation directory. Dont copy over the .cfg files though.

How do I change the resolution on the pi itself? And remember Im using composite video not sure if that supports 720

Does emulationstation not scale themes according to screen resolution? Perhaps that’s a feature that should be added into a future release. I too downloaded the popular ‘My Skin’ theme (Although i’ll be modifying it to show cover art), but the resolution doesn’t scale depending on the tv size/resolution, so it won’t work as a portable skin like I am wanting to make my retropie. Is there a way to get it to auto-scale without having to change the theme every time I hook it up to a different tv ?

My main tv is a 70″ that uses 1900×1080 resolution, but it will go on many different tvs depending on what I transport it to, so I need it to scale appropriately.

Is there a way to force scaling or something ? (XBMC does it, so I know there’s some way to do it based on resolution)

hmm, you sure you have to download the .grp ? I watched a video yesterday actually if somebody going step by step with the install and went straight into duke 3d without any issues, using an sd card image downloaded from the site.

As far as the settings, I sftpd in to copy the file over, than restarted the pi, than when I noticed it didnt work, I copied it back to my local computer to see if it was empty and its not.

How easily do the usb controllers work? The 360 controller for now is just a temporary solution until i get my case built, than I will be switching to dedicated nes/snes and genesis usb controllers, just wasnt sure if they work out of the box, or require special drivers to operate.

I’ve copied your file over replacing the one in my directory, and I still cannot get my xbox 360 controller to work inside the emulators. It doesn’t work in ANY of them. It does however work in emulation station, and I have one green light on.
