davejacaParticipant
I believe by default the pad type is set to standard (meaning non analog).
You can switch this by going to the libretro menu and core options, and selecting analog pad (see here if you need: https://youtu.be/r6-VOCyDoTc?t=342).
OR
Open /configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg and add (or change) these lines depending on what you want:
pcsx_rearmed_pad1type = “analog”
pcsx_rearmed_pad2type = “standard”Also note, if the pad is set to analog some games won’t pick up the input (unless this is fixed), bust a groove comes to mind.
davejacaParticipantHi Ceuse,
On RetroPie 2.6 and 3.0, if you select exit from the shutdown menu it automatically returns to EmulationStation. I have heard of a few people having the black screen issue but when they exit this way it works fine.
How do you usually exit Kodi?
04/03/2015 at 20:20 in reply to: Limelight (Geforce Gamestream) streaming for Retropie -installer #93654davejacaParticipantHey Astiasto,
Thanks so much for this, it is awesome! I had a few troubles with permissions during the install but sorted it out no probs, not sure if how I did it was correct but it worked.
I also made a setup tutorial which I hope you don’t mind me doing. You can view it below, and I hope I pronounced your name correctly. Let me know if you want to edit the description or links to your liking:
03/31/2015 at 15:01 in reply to: Working retropie 3.0 controller config for 2 xbox 360 wireless controllers #93250davejacaParticipantI gave you the config file and also a step by step guide to using it in video form (along with the config files again if you bothered to look).
I also tried to help you by asking you questions to troubleshoot your problem. A simple config file will not help you if you have no idea what you are doing, since this config file is already posted at that link.
If you cannot follow either of those instructions, please don’t tell this forum things are ridiculous, and start helping yourself, or consider moving on to another device or distribution.
davejacaParticipantHi,
You simply need to update your retropie setup script and do a binary update.
See here if you need a step by step guide that will help you with backing things up so you don’t lose anything:
03/30/2015 at 17:09 in reply to: Working retropie 3.0 controller config for 2 xbox 360 wireless controllers #93153davejacaParticipantHi,
Where are you having trouble, in games, emulation station or everywhere?
Have you followed the steps outlined in this article?
https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Setting-up-the-XBox360-controller
This video is for something else but it goes through all the steps you need to do to install the xbox 360 driver, and the files you need to update.
Watch it carefully, and take note of the instructions and annotations. I believe the wireless config file had a typo in it but I mention that in the video, with these two links you should have a working xbox controller. Run the joypad config tool and you will have control in emulators!
davejacaParticipantSome games will not respond to controller input if you have your controller set to analog or standard in the F1 libretro menu (depending on the game). I would recommend switching this setting and see if anything is detected.
Look at 5:43 in the video below to see what I mean if unsure. It also goes over controller config if you haven’t done that.
davejacaParticipant
Unibios is only for neo geo roms
Thanks for that, I always just blindly threw it in without even considering if it was needed.
davejacaParticipantSorry man should have made that more clear.
Fba-libretro with the unibios and the right Rom. Check the description on the vid for nice surprise.
davejacaParticipantHI ajw, I suggest you start fresh and download the RetroPie image for Rpi2 from the downloads section on this site.
I use the Pi2 over clock setting and find that is all I need, also set your gpu mem to 128meg.
I see you have seen my other comparison vids, but did you see my n64 setup vid? That can help you setting up mupen with the rice plugin which I find works best, good luck!
davejacaParticipantYour GPU mem looks high, bring it back down to 128.
Are you using the Pi2 over clock setting from the raspi-config menu? That should be all you need for smash bros.Check out this vid, I also have one covering PSX setup.
davejacaParticipantHey guys, glad you liked the SVG, it does look pretty slick.
Still no workaround for controlling kodi with the ds3, but now I just use my phone since I always have that one me, not sure if you were aware you could use your smartphone so I will leave this here just in case:
davejacaParticipantYour most likely using the libretro version of mupen with the glide plugin and getting scrambled text, switch over to Mujpen64plus and use the rice plugin, a lot of the games with scrambled text will now run fine.
Like neighbourhood nerd said as well, some games simply don’t work so keep your expectations low.
Check out this vid for some help with setup:
03/20/2015 at 15:29 in reply to: Poor performance running Super Smash Bros. 64? + controller in wrong "slot" #92090davejacaParticipantHayden, make sure you check out the vid below on n64 setup, it might solve some of your problems, Mario and smash should work fine if you tinker, also make sure your overclocked to the Pi 2 setting for best performance, send me a PM if you don’t know how to do this.
davejacaParticipantjust tried it out, and no issue, it must be your rom or bios, I am running mine on the pi2 with roms in the fba folder, as per vid below, can post some vids/screens if your interested.
Send me a PM we can talk more.
davejacaParticipantthis will pretty much work and you are on the right track. I do mine a little differently and add custom artwork etc, which I see you are unsure about from your post.
I have all my files posted in the description of this video, so you can see exactly how I do it, hope it helps.
davejacaParticipantThis is not a solution, but if you do get stuck in an emulator also try pressing Control+c. When escape didn’t work for me this usually did.
davejacaParticipantNo worries its quick and easy to make a vid, check it out below:
BIOS as per the link in my first post up above. Hope you can get it running.davejacaParticipantJust tested, runs fine. Can make a vid of it running if you like?
03/15/2015 at 21:09 in reply to: A guide for adding xbmc with working wireless 360 to RetroPie. #91508davejacaParticipantI have a video guide to this if anyone is interested, thanks to KazooZoo and supernashwan for their help above.
davejacaParticipantThat looks awesome, wish I still had my intellivision, looking forward to the details.
davejacaParticipantsounds like your BIOS is missing, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6-VOCyDoTc&t=21
davejacaParticipantI threw everything I could at it and it didn’t even break a sweat!
See my testing vid here where I try out 27 games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJC2EB-za3s
Or my setup video here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6-VOCyDoTc&list=TLaXwf3Q5UMVE
davejacaParticipantThat’s very strange and I cant even imagine why. I’m guessing you have it all set up correctly but just in case, I do go over setting up the psx here, and it may show something you have missed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6-VOCyDoTc&list=TLaXwf3Q5UMVE
If not I help someone else can answer why.davejacaParticipantTry following this, let me know if it works for you:
davejacaParticipantOk, so I am guessing you are looking in mupen64plus.cfg like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh0n5PWN2lI&t=413
See where it says mode = 2, you want to set your mode to 1 or 0.
Mode 1 pulls key settings from InputAutoCfg.ini, and mode 0 uses whatever keys you set in mupen64plus.cfg.
I prefer mode 1 so will recommend setting it to 1 for player 1 and 2, typing the name of your controller as it appears in InputAutoConfig.ini (which I am guessing is ‘Sony Playstation(R)3 Controller’ just like the video), and setting up your keys up in the InputAutoCfg.ini file. For player 3 and 4, just set the mode to 0 and delete the name, or set it to something else other than the name of your encoder, then only your ps3 controllers will be picked up!
Hope this helps, let me know if not.
davejacaParticipantHi, I just tried this out and everything works fine. Press tab to bring up the config menu and you can go through and set up your buttons. I haven’t set up anything special or edited any config files with my Mame emu because I dont use it very often, it just works.
Did you make sure to run the built in joypad setup in retropie_setup.sh?
davejacaParticipantwhich emulator are you using? It was a pain for me to get an x360 and a ds3 working with n64/psx but got there eventually. Let me know and I can help with those two, video where I set up the controls for n64 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh0n5PWN2lI&t=242
davejacaParticipantfirst of all, I am wondering if you ran the gamepad configuration tool in retropie_setup.sh. Make sure you only have one controller connected when you do this, just in case. Check here if you have not and need help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySoTQhQqZdI&t=574
If you did do this successfully, put your snes roms in the ‘snes’ folder, not the other two and your ps3 controls should just work!
**side note: if you have roms in other snes folders you will have multiple options for snes on your emulationstation home screen (look closely), and wont be able to tell which is which. Just make sure you have roms in the snes folder (not snes-pisnes or snes-snes9xrpi), and try them all till one works!
Let me know how you go.
davejacaParticipantYou’re on the right track but you need to set up two buttons for this, your hotkey button and your exit button. If you are still having trouble follow this, it does through the exact process you want to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySoTQhQqZdI&t=639
davejacaParticipantWhen you go into the retroarch menu and change the settings you need to go back to the main menu and save your settings to a new file. You then need to take this file and move/rename it to the correct location/filename. Every emulator is different and you can see what file each emulator uses for their append config file in es_systems.cfg.
You can see this process being done here for the psx emulator: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6-VOCyDoTc&t=432
Let me know how you go
davejacaParticipantI had this happen to me once, and couldn’t work out why. It did not affect me at all though so I learnt to ignore it.
Since you are getting xbox controllers loading try blacklisting that driver, see here (!! dont do this if you are using an xbox 360 controller): https://www.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/remove-xpad-and-use-xboxdrv-instead-to-stop-controller-light-flashing-constantly/#post-16237
davejacaParticipantThere are lots of little tricks you can do to make it better, and a lot are covered here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6-VOCyDoTc&t=14 Try step 3 and 4, I find this is good enough for me.
Let me know how you go and I can help you with the shaders if your still not happy.
davejacaParticipantN64 is a pain, and Mupen64 doesnt work as nice out of the box as the other N64 option. My recommendation is to use both (put roms in the n64 folder as well), and set up your Mupen with the Rice plugin as Floob suggested. There is a beginners guide to this here which might help you out a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh0n5PWN2lI covers how to change your video plugin as well.
davejacaParticipantHi Matt,
I can think of two options for you to try:
1. Edit your retroarch-core-options.cfg file in /opt/retropie/configs/all and delete the mupen64 tags at the bottom. This should *hopefully* get rid of any bad settings you choose, and regenerate some defaults when you reload the emulator.
See here if you need some help with this, or copy mine (use the “rice” gfx plugin option though!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh0n5PWN2lI&t=6582. Is dependent on if you are using a second config file in /opt/retropie/configs/n64. If you have a retroarch.cfg file in here, delete it using rm *filename*.
Let me know how you go!
