d8thstarParticipant
i’ve been away from my pi way to long, i have no idea where to change the dpad as button flag.
d8thstarParticipantI can’t for the life of me figure out how to get the dead working with my wired 360 pad. Can someone post their configure file?
Thanks in advance!
Also, feature request if I may. Add an option to have a controller button combo to exit the emu. For instance, press “start” and “select” together to exit.
Thanks a ton for all your work on this.
d8thstarParticipantI keep my rims on an external HD so my rom path has to be different and it worked before.
so the above page doesn’t help but thanks.
d8thstarParticipantthanks an for the input, that helps clear things up for me (I completely forgot about the “yourgamepad.cfg” file.
i’ll dig deeper a bit more tomorrow but something is up on my end.
d8thstarParticipantd8thstarParticipanti came across this and it worked a charm:
add the line:
sudo mount -a
to this file:
/etc/rc.local
i appreciate the feedback!
d8thstarParticipantwell i have tried it two different ways, first up i used midnight commander to copy all my folders from the 1tb to the 2tb disc.
second method (after a format of the 2tb drivce), i plugged both into my mac and copied all folders from the root of the 1TB to the root of the 2tb drive.
in both instances, the 2tb behaves the same. on a side note, when i first did it, the drive would mount but there would be an extra foolder in the directory tree. so instead of the mount point being /media it was /media/usb
but that screwed up my rom patths. so fixing my rom paths and a rebbot, the mount point was BACK to /media. so now my new rom paths didn;’t work. swithch them back and the mount point was back to /media/usb. weird to say the least.
so, i started with a reformat and now am at a point where the drive will not automount. i must quit ES, use sudo mount -a and restart ES, then everything is back.
i have tried adding rootdelay=5 but that did nothing.
any thoughts? and many thanks!
d8thstarParticipanti have gotten more games to work and even found a cool little utility that will create a new cue file. this fixed another handful of games. for the ones it didnt fix, it at least got me to the turbo splash screen to press run, before it would not start at all.
but pressing run resukts in the syscard tellling me there is a load error.
d8thstarParticipanthappy to, but how do i do it? :)
d8thstarParticipantdd you edit the advmame-1.2.rc file to point to where the chd’s are? i am running ES3.0 beta and that file can be found at:
/opt/retropie/configs/mame-advmame
the line in question is:
dir_image /media/MAME106/chds
obviously change the above location to where your chd’s are. fyi, i have my chd FILES in folders named exactly the same as the chd. so, are51.chd is inside an area51 folder.
d8thstarParticipanti just got my first game to work! maybe it is the images that i have that are corrupt or incompatible.
another update, definitely isn’t liking the bin/cue on my end. i took the beyond shadow gate bin file, converted it to ISO and it now works.
d8thstarParticipantmaybe it just my game image. can you give me a list of games that are working on your end? that way i can try a couple.
thanks for everything
d8thstarParticipanti have them working in advmame 1.2 but KI’s run EXTREMELY slow…
d8thstarParticipanthere is the beginning of my cue file. fyi, the audio for this title is inside the bin. also, the bin is named exactly as it is below.
i have tried a few different games and all the same crash.
FILE “BSG.bin” BINARY
TRACK 01 AUDIO
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 MODE1/2352
PREGAP 00:02:00
INDEX 01d8thstarParticipantBOOM! that did the trick, thanks a ton brunchero.
d8thstarParticipantthats not it. my BIN is now named BSG.bin and the CUE is named “Beyond ShadowGate.CUE” so i can see them both and load the appropriate one. when loading the CUE file, I get:

d8thstarParticipantthats how long the real c64 took to load games. in the options, if you turn on “warp” while it loads, it will speed up the emulation and load quickly. when its done loading, turn off warp.
d8thstarParticipantthanks for the tip brunchero. any chance you have a link or walk thru on how which images and where and what resolution they need to be at?
i am happy with the 720 but would be happier at the full 1080P :)
thanks again bud
d8thstarParticipantthanks for the suggestion but that didn’t work.
there seems to be an error in my run command, as listed in the log, line 554 but I would have no idea how to fix that.
d8thstarParticipantjust wanted to report back, the scrape was successful! thank you so much for the quick fix!
d8thstarParticipantah cool, thank you very much, can’t wait to try the updated version and report back to you.
curious when you think i may be able to get my hands on it?
thank you again.
d8thstarParticipanthey brunchero,
i am also having issues of the Turbo CD erring out and not loading. I have tried everything and still not working.
would you mind posting the specific area from your cfg file?
thanks
fyi, this is what i get in my runcommand.log:

d8thstarParticipantfirst up, thank you for such an awesome tool.
i just tried again and am running into the same issue, the scraper is bombing out before it can finish. here is the exact line being output:
2015/04/12 20:13:18 INFO: Attempting lookup in MAMEDB: viprp1ot.zip
2015/04/12 20:13:18 ERR: error processing viprp1ot.zip: Get http://www.mamedb.com/game/viprp1ot: dial tcp: lookup http://www.mamedb.com on 10.182.207.200:53: dial udp 10.182.207.200:53: too many open filesthe images up to the above mentioned rom have been scraped successfully and are sitting in the images folder. i even opened a couple just to be sure.
i am running it from within my mame rom directory with the following command:
./scraper -mame -thumb_only
i know that this works as it is the exact command i used to scrape the neo geo titles. i also have used your scraper to scrape just about every other console i have.
FYI, because it seems to bombing out before it is complete, i can’t seem to find the gamelist.xml file. i see it for my other scraped emu’s, right in the rom directory with the images in a “images” directory within the rom directory.
also, i have my mame106 rom on an external drive that mounts at boot. this usb hd has a mount point in my /media folder. so my mame rom folder is /media/MAME106/roms wondering if that may be the issue?
one other bit of info, if i rerun the scraper, it skips the images that it has already downloaded from the previous scrape. taken from the output on a rerun:
2015/04/12 19:27:22 INFO: Attempting lookup in MAMEDB: dstlku.zip
2015/04/12 19:27:22 INFO: Skipping images/dstlku-image.jpg

2015/04/12 19:27:22 INFO: Attempting lookup in MAMEDB: dstlkur1.zip
2015/04/12 19:27:23 INFO: Skipping images/dstlkur1-image.jpgso you can see two rom images it looks for and skips, presumably because they are already in the image folder.
i thank you so much for this GREAT tool and for any insight you may have for me. advMAME106 is the last emulator that I need scraping for (also need playstation but that’s another post).
d8thstarParticipantfloob, you’re a genius. if you have a paypal account, i’d like to buy you a pint.
if i may follow up, it works just as you said it would. i thought if i changed the path to an external hd i have (with the chd’s on it), that it would work but i get the same file not found error. the line in question is in the following file:
/opt/retropie/configs/mame-advmame/advmame.rc
the line is:
dir_image /media/MAME106/chds
i can confirm that changing this line back to /opt/retropie/configs/mame-advmame/image will load the chd that is in there. but the chd’s are rather large and i would like to offload them onto my hd. any thoughts on how to make this happen?
if you send me a private message with your paypal email, i’ll buy you that pint!

You could report the problem upstream to emulationstation perhaps ? Maybe there is something that could be improved in the es code to reduce memory usage etc.How would i do that other then by opening my git issue ? (https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation/issues/423)

yikes, running into lock ups myself as i added more emu’s over the weekend. running 25 and some white box art is starting to show up with garbled text.i’ll try taking that down to 20 to see if it still does the same thing.
or just remove some gamelist xmls if you have them scraped and see if that fixes the issue (at least for me it does)
[/quote]thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a try. I want to be sure I am removing the correct xmls, would you mind sharing what folder they are hiding in? fyi, I am running the newest 3.0 beta.
thanks so much!
d8thstarParticipantyou’re the man floob!
I have tried two, area51 and killer instinct.
I got the CHD’s as part of a 106 complete rom set. funny thing is that it isn’t saying its the wrong rom or checksum, it says the file does not exist.
again, I have tried the CHD file in the roms folder. also tried it in a folder with the same name as the CHD, and that folder in the roms folder.
really interested in your results. thanks again for everything!

d8thstarParticipantthanks floob, that is the scraper that i used, i love your videos man, they have been SO helpful.
curious, i have my mame106 rom on an external drive that mounts when the pi boots up. might that be the issue? emulationstation is looking for images on the sd card but mame games are on the usb hd? i can see in the mame rom folder and image folder and all of the images are in there, they just aren’t displaying in the FE.
thanks again bud.
d8thstarParticipantany thoughts? better way for me to ask, what config file does emulationstation use to find the location of snapshots?
maybe i could edit directly in there.
thanks
d8thstarParticipantthank you guys so much for all the help. i have rebuilt and am in the process of transferring over but clrmame looked to have done it’s thing properly. i wouldn’t be where i’m at with this little box if it weren’t for all the hard work and the help of you all.
curious, is there a way to filter mame roms with ES? i would like to filter out different versions of the same rom and only show the parent.
as always, thank you again for everything!
d8thstarParticipanti tried saving as UTF8 and still doesn’t work. the beginning of my cue file reads:
FILE “Beyond ShadowGate.bin” BINARY
TRACK 01 AUDIO
INDEX 01 00:00:00my BIN file is named: Beyond ShadowGate.bin
as you can see, they are named exactly the same. from the log file i get the following:
Loading %s…
Using module: %s(%s)
CD-ROM speed: %ux
ROM: %dKiB
ROM CRC32: 0x%04x

it seems there is an error on line 554, i have no idea what that means. if anyone has any ideas, i would greatly appreciate it.
perhaps you could post one of your working cue files?
d8thstarParticipantcool, thank for the responses everyone.
d8thstarParticipantthanks, that did the trick of the setup script.
i have tried the binaries, source and experimental updates but emulationstation still says it’s 2.0.1A, not 3.0.
what am i doing wrong? thanks
d8thstarParticipanti have sega CD up and running but turbo CD games are crapping out on me (they work on my PC).
can someone who has it yup please outline which files need to go where and what cfg files need to be edited?
i have my syscard3.pce in the same folder as the games, also in the bios folder. my cue files point to the correct name on the bin (exactly match the names with or without caps).
i’m at a loss of what else to try. please help.
03/25/2015 at 07:05 in reply to: How do I stop Retropie from looking for some gamelist.xml files? #92528d8thstarParticipanti’ve been getting the same exact errors on start up and shut down. I can still play all my games but i think it may be slowing the initial load time and the shut down. here is a sample line of all the errors I get:
lvl0: Could not find <gameList> node in gamelist “/home/pi/.emulationstation/gamelists/msx/gamelist.xml”!
that is just one line of many, each line lists a different emulator, the above max is just a sample.
i tried the below but my error doesn’t seem to be linked to the rom folders.
cd RetroPie-Setup
sudo ./retropie_packages.sh resetromdirsany help is appreciated and thanks
EDIT: solved on my end. I just went into each folder in /home/pi/.emulationstation/gamelists/ and deleted all gambits.xml files, all good now.
