Im pretty sure retropie 2.3 uses mame4all as the new default. will have to confirm that but its says so in that es_systems.cfg file
as for roms you need to get the correct files. emulators dont come with the roms. And according to that es_systems.cfg you have to put your roms in ~/RetroPie/roms/mame
chitoParticipant
Could you explain what is a romset?
Its a collection of games for a version or program. mame4all-pi uses the 0.37b5 mame roms set which was used by an old version of mame. between roms sets the names of zip files can change, the files within them can be removed/add/renamed; games get added and removed etcFrom my understanding adv mame isnt even playable…. there should be away to add games and or features form newer code… like support for -listxml
chitoParticipantfinally found out why you cant use -listxml… not supported in this version of mame…
so i took the clrmamepro dat file for mame4all-pi and convert it into the xml
using this tute
http://www.emulab.it/forum/index.php?topic=3705.0RomLister seems to be happy now
chitoParticipantMame4all is missing so many games. I know that its meant to be better performance by not emulating newer games but there are plenty of older games that are missing. Is there a better alternative? Or is there a way to add games to a custom compilation?
chitoParticipantSo quick question…. does retropie 2.3 have mame4all-pi as the default mame now? cause looking at the es_systems.cfg it appears it does… but im a noob so i dont know how to confirm this
chitoParticipantI think nilsbyte got a little upset. I think i need to clarify that im taking about when you first power on the retropie. I dont think its unreasonable to want to hide all the ugly boot sequence that comes up when you power on the retropie. Im not talking about when you load a game that would be stupid. Hiding all that console text is good User Experience Design and give your machine a more polished look.
chitoParticipantAwesome thanks. Ill have a play with it.
seems people are having trouble with 6 button controllers for the genesis. Hopefully I get it to workchitoParticipantIf you use something like goodtools to name your roms then everyone will hae the same named roms. This idea could be done
chitoParticipantJust a guess here but I think it creates a file that has a path to the rom along with alll the meta data for it. And if emu station displays based on what roms it finds, then ur suggestion would work. Sure would make setup a lot easier.
chitoParticipantWhere is the in game button remap? Retropie noob
chitoParticipantHow did u go with this? Im having a similar problem
chitoParticipantI have a few different controllers I want to use with my retropie. Not sure ifits possible… or at least different emulators to work with different controllers.
I bought 2 sega genesis controllers
2 snes controllers
and ive got 4 usb xarcade controllersHow do I set up all these different controllers per system?
chitoParticipantA video would be heaps inefficient (hdd space and memory), not easy to change and way more work. but if its the only way then ill give it a go.
with these splash screens and videos what resolution/aspect ratio should they be created at?
chitoParticipantYou know what i would like…
a slide show… like when a game is loading you get a slideshow of companies and technologies involved with making the game and then the games actual splash screen until the game is ready like this
like a screen saying “raspberry pi” with logo then it transitions to a screen saying “RetroPie” then maybe something like “Powered by: Emulation station” and then the splash screen for your custom machine and it stays on that until it finishes loading.
for now its all on one screen (view attached image)…. and then the emulations station splashscreen again.
