Hi. Sorry for the delay in replying. Haven’t had much time of late to come on here! :s
So firstly, my latest images will fit on a 8gb card, however to acheive this you should be using the ‘USB Method’, ie copying the installeion files to your USB flash drive instead of your memory card. Read my readme file for full instructions.
Candyluv – yes, a Triple-Boot is on the to-do list!
Skullmonkey – I do mention not to change the skin in my readme file! Do you need instructions on how to add the RetroPie script back in?
Herb – I used the ‘apt-get’ version of TTD, however I see you have now added it to the RetroPie setup script..cool.
That’s great news smithers. Can’t wait for that triple boot.
I use the usb method to install on the sd card and that so save you over 1GB of space on the card.candyluvParticipant
Hi,
please can you build a image that we can use in 8gb sd card? i have no problem if the image only have de stock openelec and retropie. I have seen the similar request in other coments on youtube videos.
This build can fit on an 8GB card. It is openelec Without Addons so it is stock. You may just have to adjust the partition size given to both openelec and retropie.
candyluvParticipantWill there be a new triple build as well??
candyluvParticipantIt looks great smithers. Great work as always.
candyluvParticipant
Thanks for the reply smither.
I will try adding another build and see what happens.
As for the Date/Time in Raspbian, its incorrect and I am connected to the internet so for some reason the auto internet time adjustment is not kicking in. Its actually a few days behind.
Thanks againWell, I don’t have Raspbian installed and unfortunately I don’t have any spare SD cards at the moment as I gave my spare away to my neice and nephew (made them a gaming console!). So it would be a while before I could test this myself, until I buy a new SD card.
Have a look at this post though and you may find the answer you need:

Thanks Smithers.
I’ll check it out.
I’m using a 64GB SD Card and I need to make the partition for openelec larger. What is the best method to do that with your triple build on windows? Or do it resize automatically when more space is being used/needed??
Update: I believe I figure it out. Had to edit the partition sizes in the line “partition_size_nominal” (1800 etc) to whatever is wanted, in the file ‘partitions.json’ located in the OS folder to the relative OS using notepad before install.I tried added another profiles in Kodi but anytime I install a new build in the new profile I create, all the other profiles are removed, making itself the master profile with “master user” name even though I named it all differently as well as rename all the other profiles before installing a build, Beast etc. I checked and saw that the profiles folders were still there but in the profiles option only show “master user” which is always the last profile I install a build on.
Seem to be a glitch. I’m trying to figure out a work around but if smothers or anyone can assist I will be grateful, thanks.Smithers also wanted to know if your image is already overclocked and if yes what are the settings??
What is your next build with this?
Thanks again for everything and keep up the great work.candyluvParticipantThanks for the reply smither.

Thanks againcandyluvParticipant
**WiFi Issues Update**
So in conclusion – there is no problem with my build in regards to WiFi. It would instead seem as though Raspbian is in need of an update to include more / newer WiFi dongle firmwares. I can’t help you in the search of your own WiFi dongle drivers, however I can try and help with WICD:
You will need an ethernet cable plugged in before you continue!
To install WICD, open up a terminal (or SSH into the Pi), and type the following:
sudo apt-get install wicd
When it is finished installing, click on the start menu and go into the ‘Internet’ sub-menu. You should see ‘Wicd Network Manager’ – click on it and the network manager will appear. If your WiFi dongle is up and running already then it will scan and find any nearby SSID’s – click on your own, go to Properties and near the bottom of the page enter your WiFi password then go back and choose ‘Connect’. If it doesn’t connect first time then you may have to change your DHCP client from ‘Auto’ to a static value. To do this, click the drop-down menu button to the right of ‘Refresh’ at the top of the screen and then choose ‘Preferences’. Go into the ‘External Programs’ screen and choose a DHCP client from the list (there were only 2 options for me – I chose dhclient and it worked for me). Go back and try and connect again. It should hopefully work!
Well, I hope this helps – its all I can really offer on this problem I’m afraid as it is a problem that is inherited from stock Raspbian. If you have difficulties in locating an updated driver for your WiFi dongle then I would suggest making a post at raspberrypi.org – thats where I found a thread on my own dongle.
Good luck!

Hi Smithers,
As usual, great work.
The WIFI instructions worked great for me also I got the build to install from usb by using a different flash drive (Sandisk low profile 32GB USB 2.0 formated as Fat32).I also installed Sprinz-tv build in kodi which works great.
I was wondering if I decided to add a second profile with an additional build if it will have enough space for that. Also if 0 cache was selected to save cache to sd card??My only real problem now which is minor, is setting the correct time/date in Raspbian.
Do you know of an easy way in doing this??
Thanks in advance.Do you have a donation link where people can donate.
You are very deserving of such. You have save me a lot of work not having to do all this myself and I very much appreciate it.Keep up the great work.
candyluvParticipant
I am at a loss here. I put the OS folder on my Fat32 formatted 128Gb USB stick. I put the other contents of the NOOBS folder on the MicroSO.
I plugged both into my system, unplugged the network cable, and NOOBS does not see any OS’ to install but insists that I need to connect to the inet first.
When I do get this working, is this going to install this to my USB and leave my SD there to boot from?
Hi,
I was having the same problem and just gave up on it. I thought my flash drive was the problem cause didn’t have another one to try.
Glad to know it was not just me. Thanks for sharing.candyluvParticipant
Hi.
Sorry for the lack of replies. Been busy with the triple boot. It has had my head absolutely done in trying to sort out transparency in Cairo-Dock using xcompmgr, but I have eventually figured it out and happy to say it is now running perfect on all systems!
I have calculated the minimum partition sizes for each OS too:
OpenELEC = 1.8GB – this awards enough space should you wish to install the ‘Beast Build’ (I have added the Spartan Wizard program so it is ready to install via 1 click, should you want to). I have also set up this build so you will be presented with the standard ‘Welcome Wizard’ within OpenELEC on first run, so you can set up some of your own preferences.
Raspbian = 6GB – this allows approx 1.5GB free space. Quite large but nothing I can do. I have installed the following to Raspbian:
So now all I have to do is compress all partitions down so they are ready for the NOOBS installer but this will take an age given how big the files are in this build, so I’ll leave it over night to do its thing as its too late now (again!!). This means I won’t be able to test it until tomorrow night when I’m home from work, but I’ll definitely aim to release tomorrow night, all being well.
I’ll reply to questions above tomorrow.
All the best.
Steve
Hi Smither,
Such great work. Not enough words to express how happy I am for it.
In terms of OpenELEC = 1.8GB, what about the 0-cache option where cache is stored on the card will the 1.8GB limit it?
As for me using a 32GB card will the 22GB automatically go to the retropie or will it be divided between all partitions? And great great again. You are a BOSS.
candyluvParticipant
Yeah I have a similar one myself. Quite a generic design there are hundreds of variants!
Yeah there are. I bought my keyboard about 5 years ago when there was only a few different ones and Mine still works.
How soon will the triple boot be up?
candyluvParticipant
I’m afraid I don’t. You will need to either go through the motions in the Emulation Station ‘Joypad Setup’ script, or edit the es_input.cfg file manually. Please bare in mind that the es_input.cfg file requires keyboard characters to be entered in using their ‘key code’ (for want of a better term). What I mean is that it won’t accept for example ‘W’ ‘S’ ‘A’ ‘D’ as ‘up down left right’, you need to find the key code that corresponds to the ‘W A S D’ keys and enter them. Here is an example of my own es_input.cfg file but please don’t be tempted to copy this as it will not be what you need (I created it for a wireless air mouse / keyboard / remote combo):<inputConfig type="keyboard" deviceName="Keyboard"> <input name="up" type="key" id="1073741906" value="1"/> <input name="right" type="key" id="1073741903" value="1"/> <input name="down" type="key" id="1073741905" value="1"/> <input name="left" type="key" id="1073741904" value="1"/> <input name="a" type="key" id="13" value="1"/> <input name="b" type="key" id="1073741925" value="1"/> <input name="start" type="key" id="1073741926" value="1"/> </inputConfig>
Those long strings of numbers are key codes that were interpreted by Linux from my remote. Yours will be different no doubt.
Honestly – your best bet is to plug in the keyboard and set them up through the GUI. That way the settings should be carried through into Retroarch too for the libretro emulators, preventing you having to set those up manually too.
Good luck!

Hi,
This is the keyboard I was talking about LotFancy® Mini 2.4GHz Black Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad for PC, Pad, Andriod TV Box, Google TV Box, Xbox360, PS3 & HTPC IPTV and I have this one: Rii Mini i6 Wireless USB Keyboard + Trackpad + Universal IR Remote Controller (Black).candyluvParticipant
I’m not going to write this off, but allocating 5GB+ just for Raspbian means alot less space for everything else, we’re talking that a 32GB card would be the recommended size for this build I think.
I forgot to mention but I did take your advice on RaspEX and it looks good – I have downloaded it but not had a chance to try it out yet. Do you know if it is a more lightweight distro than Raspbian?
Also, as for the beast build – I can add the repository in so it is ready to install, should you want it. It is just a simple click of a button really, so technically I can offer both options in one build. Makes life a bit easier I think!
All the best,
Steve
HI,
As for RaspEX is a combination of Debian 8.0 (Jessie) and Ubuntu 15.04 but its said that it’s suppose to be faster than raspbian but I’m still playing around with it. It have some pre-install software on it so be both are new to it lol.
Have not been able to find out much online about it probably because it have not been around that long.
I don’t have any problem with the size the triple boot will be. It should be understood that it will require a larger memory card. I already use 32GB cards to it will just be more unused space been use on it hahaha.Great Work and looking forward to triple boot.
candyluvParticipant
Quick video showing the triple-boot in action:
Soon as I sort out that persistent black box around Cario Dock then I’ll get this packaged up and uploaded. I know what the problem is and how to fix it but it re-appears on every reboot of Raspbian. If I can’t fix it then I’ll ditch Cairo-Dock – its not a necessity.
Feedback on theming welcomed – I made the Raspbian RetroPie logo myself as there isn’t an actual logo to be found. :/
Anyways, I’m off to bed. Another late one! :s
Hi,
Everything looks great.
As for the black box around Cario Dock, I for one don’t have a problem with it being there. I like the Dock and would not have notice the problem if you had not mention it lol.You have created another master piece Great work as always.
candyluvParticipant
Hi.
You could do this, however I can only imagine it would be very poor to use as a controller! I have a similar keyboard so I think I see hwere you’re going with this, and it should be possible, but in practice I think you’ll find it won’t be suitable.
I would strongly recommend a real pad instead!
All the best.
Steve
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah they intend to get one but for now they will be using the keyboard.
Do you have a config ex. A, B, L etc that I can copy/duplicate manually??As for the Raspbian seems that most just wants the
1) file manager/usb access
2) Media Player to play videos etc eg. vlc player
3) Web Browser eg. IceWeasel/Epiphany browser/Chromium/ which ever is best
4) LibreOffice – it is also made to be use in raspbian. Don’t know of any alternatives but .The size seems up to 3GB – 4GB to accommodate the software since it seems it will pick up a little space.
And my pick of the kodi build will be the beast but I can possibly install it myself.Great work thanks.
candyluvParticipant
beast build doesn’t works.
I try a lot of times to format sd card in FAT32, then put all noobs files content in sd card (root) but when i turn on raspberry pi2, black screen and no green led.
The Beast Build do work very well.
It’s working for me a whole day now. I even made some minor settings adjustments without problems.
Check your card and see if any other builds is working with it.
I had an incident when the files was copied but the PI was not recognizing the card and I realize that the card was faulty.
Also check to see if all the files was copied properly.
You can use “h2testw” card tested software to run test on the card for errors.
USE SD Formatter V4 to format the card and in options Select “ON” for format file adjustment.
Hope that helps. It’s great and thanks again Smithers for the wonderful work you are doing.
Don’t know what I would have done without your Builds.candyluvParticipant
Hi Steve
Firstly thank you so much for all your hard work on this – as a beginner it’s really appreciated and so kind of you to take the time to help everyone. Been keeping up with this thread for the last few weeks and just made an account to thank you.
Id be interested in the Raspbian Triple Boot – for me Id just need a good browser (preferably Midori & Chromium), file manager, Python and preferably office. Using a 32gb SD card so im more thanok with using more than 2GB space if needed.
Quick question – I know we aren’t supposed to change the Kodi theme or the build messes up. Are we ok to add and remove add-ons as normal though?
Thanks again for you help!
Yeah you could. I did it a few times without any issue. Just make sure not to touch the Game Menu and you should be good.
I even change the whole theme but had to follow back the instructions on how to place back the Games menu. All without problems.Hope that helps.
candyluvParticipantHi,
For anyone that can answer.
I’m trying to setup one for my friend and he will be using a *Rii mini Qwerty wireless keyboard* so I’m trying to MAP it for retropie gaming.
Do anyone have a recommendation/listing for what buttons I should put for a particular function.
It would be much appreciated for some assistance in that area.
Thanks in advance.candyluvParticipant
So in regards the triple boot – I have some questions about it:1) How much space would be reasonable to allocate to Raspbian? If the intention is only to use it as a web surfing, file editing, proof of concept type thing then I would say maybe only up to 2GB? I guess what Im ultimately asking is – what are you going to use Raspbian to do? Maybe then I can use my own judgement.
2) Handling the OS switching – so its self explanatory with RetroPie and KODI (have a dedicated home page menu for both), however in Raspbian, I can only think about placing shortcuts on the desktop which will run my scripts. This gives the potential of the shortcuts being deleted of course, so I wonder if there is another way that I am maybe not thinking of?? Anyone have any thoughts? I can probably implement them into the start menu, so theres one option.
Please let me know what you think and I will take it from there.
All the best.
Steve
Hi Smithers The Great lol,
I believe 2 GB should be enough, Web surfing and maybe file editing/creating is mainly what will be done. So just really a good web browser, access to usb storage, media player and LibreOffice are just my main interest really with it.
As for the desktop shortcuts there is indeed the risk of it being deleted so getting it in the menu bar would be better but both can be done.
And or also as “haris1977” said about when rebooting if you can get it to boot directly into kodi.Have you taken taken a look at raspex OS (http://raspex.exton.se/)??
If yes, what do you think about it??I already have the beast version up and running and its great and I added the license for MPEG-2 and VC-1.
I’m using a 32GB EVO 48 MB/s UHS-I
What advance settings do you have for kodi buffering/cache on the build or what would you recommend for Ethernet and WiFi, (no cache or cache-amount)Thanks again for all that you are doing for us. I can’t seem to thank you enough and I’m sure I would not be able to haha.
candyluvParticipant
OK folks, new build is ready! Here is the first on offer:
RetroPie v3 (my build)
OpenELEC v14 – Beast Build
Please be aware the ‘Beast Build’ requires a 2GB partition!![link removed]
The ‘Beast Build’ contains every addon you could ever want or need, so if you want it all – go for this build, otherwise await my next posts for different builds, as below:
RetroPie + OpenELEC – My ‘minimal’ build, for those who prefer the minimal look but still with the best available addons
RetroPie + RasPlex – For those who use their own media server, rather than an internet streaming solution. **I am still testing this build but so far it is working**
RetroPie + OpenELEC + RaspBian Triple-Boot – ….maybe. I’m exploring options, but after I finished the others above.
Please be aware the beast build contains adult addons!

Hi Smithers,
These are all GREAT and so are you. Can’t wait for the triple.
Just one question:
1) Which controllers/keyboards are already map to your image??You are doing an amazing job.
Thanks again for everything that you are doing.candyluvParticipant
OK so I’ve had a number of people asking for a RetroPie / Rasplex dual boot image and I think I may have figured out how to do it. I was struggling for ages trying to get my script to run but then I realised that Rasplex wants Python scripts, not bash scripts! So a quick crash course on Python scripting and I have a very basic script that seems to work.
Smithers,
Anything with adding “Raspbian or similar OS”, I’m not sure how to go about it. Really need some help/instructions on “HOWTO” if possible on how to add “Raspbian” to your image.
Thanks again for the GREAT work.
candyluvParticipantHi Smithers,
I believe I found your list. Will have to pick out from my collection and rename it to what you have. Thanks
Also I’m not sure how to go about it. I’m a noob in the area of writing scripts. It would be great to have some pacific instructions on “HOWTO” if possible on how to add “Raspbian” to your image thanks.candyluvParticipant
Hi.I think you should be able to install Raspbian inside the existing RetroPie partition, which would mean that a triple boot would not be needed.
If you really did want a triple boot, then yes, I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t have that – it would just mean sacrificing some SD card space and creating a new script for booting into the correct partition. I would however recommend just going down the ‘install Raspbian in the RetroPie partition’ route, then adding in a simple script that executes ‘startx’.
Thanks Smithers
Will do whatever you believe is best. I’m not sure how to go about it. I’m a noob in the area of writing scripts. Would be great to have some pacific instructions on “HOWTO” if possible thanks. Also as I ask before
Wanted to also know a few things:
1) If you have a list of roms for each emulator that works well with your build, especially for psx and gameboy advance and snes. I tried mario kart but can’t recognize the writing so can’t choose the proper options but the game play it self was good. So if possible will be great if you can give some game choices.2) How do you exit a game/emulator to return to to retropie main screen. Do it have a button function? I’m doing this by pressing “start and select”.
3)Will the Logitech rumble pad control work well with it. I wanted to get one of those.
4)Last but not the lease, connecting a “3.5” TFT LCD Touch Screen Module 320*480 RGB Display”. Would it work and if yes, how to get it to work.
You are Great and all this is wonderful and amazing. Keep up the good work.
candyluvParticipantHi again,
Is there a way to add another OS to it, just like on the openelec menu and retropie menu, eg Like Raspbian or RaspEX which is really more for basic functions and Web surfing purposes.
IF yes, how can one go about it leaving the smooth transition of the build. Thanks in advance.
candyluvParticipant
I ve tested your image and overall it is quite impressive:)
Here are my thoughts/suggestions though:
1) I d suggest to provide a “clean” kodi image (without any extra addons, except for the game-retropie addon of course).
Overall , your project is awesome!
Hi,
For 1). The Vanilla Build which I believe is V6 have a “clean” Kodi image. You can replace the folder in V7 before install with that one and it should work. The only thing is, is that V6 is Kodi 15.1 and V7 is 14.2 if. I tried it and it did work but I also like the pre-configured version so I use both.
Hope that helps. And again Great work Smithers!!!!!
candyluvParticipant
If I recall correctly, if you don’t set any resolution settings in config.txt then the pi will request a setting from your TV, when running via HDMI. I could have totally made that up but I’m pretty sure that is correct. Try commenting out the 2 lines hdmi_group and hdmi_mode in the config.txt file (by placing a # in front of both of them), and you may well find that it works. As for how my image will look or respond – I’m not sure. I have tweaked everything to be 720p friendly, however 1080p should also be fine (assuming it will choose 1080p since it allows it on the openelec partition).
Good luck!

I seem to have a problem when trying to launch Retropie. I get a black screen from the start and it freezes at that. The only version that works is the vanilla v6. Both version 4 and 7 is giving me the black screen and I really want to use your pre-configured version. Also if I launch retropi from openelec then when I restart it will automatically go to the black screen.
Is there a way to rectify this issue.Hmmm… sounds like your TV may not support the resolution I have set? In my ‘tweaked’ builds I set the resolution to 720p / 60Hz as below:
hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=85
You could try changing the resolution to something different in the ‘config.txt’ file on the partition named ‘BOOT’. Follow the below link to find a list of options you can try:
http://elinux.org/RPiconfig#Video_mode_options
Seems strange though – your TV obviously supports 1080p as thats the resolution I set for OpenELEC, so you would think it would support 720p if it supports 1080p? Well, try amending the options in ‘config.txt’ and see how you go.
Hi again,
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.I believe you are right about it being a settings issue with my monitor I connected it to. I tried it on another TV and it works. So there is a strange glitch with my monitor.
Is there a way to set it to Auto since I will be moving it about to different TVs/Monitors? For example would you recommend setting it to hdmi_group=0. Don’t want to be playing around to much with changing the settings in fear of braking something.
ThankscandyluvParticipantHi,
