    With the new image (2.6 for RPi 2) do you guys think it is necessary to run the following commands:

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
    sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-ui-mods

    Or will they cause more harm than good?

    the image is up to date, so there are unlikely many packages to update to.

    there is no desktop/gui by default so only install the desktop and things like raspberrypi-ui-mods if you need it.
