trouble changing any text sizes

hi,
im building a raspberry pi gameboy and am using a small 3.5″ display and honestly its not the best resolution wise but it does the job. I cant seem to find any answers to this question so i apologise if theres a topic or something that ive missed. I’ve tried editing the simple.xml file and changed the font size from 0.3 to 0.1 or 0.55 etc but to no avail. nothing seems to change. The text for the gamelistings, the loading text and especially the text in the bottom left for displaying what button to use when browsing through games is simpy not readable if not just. I cant read at all the the little A or B button on the bottom left either and its all very frustrating!
