Setting Joystick PS2

how do I set the joystick ps2?
when in emulationstation, I can use the joystick ps2
but why when I want to start a game, I can not use a joystick?
I can only use the keyboard
when I try to set the input configuration
I can start the es-config settings properly
but why when i select start basic input configuration, I did not do anything, the joystick does not work
