Saving joystick config in RetroArch

I am using ES 2.1 and I have been able to get everything setup except for my controllers. I can open retroarch-joystickconfig, run the program and configure my controller, it sends me back to terminal at which point I use “sudo reboot” and go back into ES. However, when I run a game, my gamepad doesnt work.

I went into the LXDE GUI and navigated to the RetroArch directory, opened the .cfg file and noticed all the values are blank. It’s not saving any on my configuration. I tried multiple times. I even took a picture and tried to manually enter the values, but I cant even save the .cfg file from that point. Is there something I need to do to unlock it? Am I a complete idiot? An answer to either of those questions would be helpful at this point. I’m by no means an advanced user, but this is frustrating. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Try running the config as user: root password: raspberry

Ok, I’ve gotten Player1 to work. I can use it inside ES as well as a game. I used this (just like 500 times before) and it worked this time, oddly.

sudo chown pi /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

cd /opt/retropie/emulators/RetroArch/installdir/bin

sudo ./retroarch-joyconfig -j 0 >> /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

However, when I go to the retroarch.cfg in the GUI to edit and add values for player 2 the values for player 1 are blank. My goal is to get both gamepads working within the ROM, but if I cant edit the cfg how am I supposed to do that.

Try editing from terminal:

nano /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

Ok, its official, I’m an idiot. I have everything working now but the sound. I’ll go work on that now. Thanks for the help. By the way, I’m an idiot.
