Okay I take that back (refer to title)! I think the very first ROM that I put on my RetroPie is working just fine (which was Super Mario World for the SNES). After that, upon trying to put in other ROMs just seemed to fail over and over and over again. Before posting I have already been looking around on this forum for answers but none seem to fit. Maybe… I’m not very good with Linux so I followed this tutorial:

    and this one as well

    exactly…

I have the Raspberry Pi B+
    HDMI
    HP Keyboard and Mouse (Wired)
    Xbox 360 Controller (Wired)
    Samsung EVO 16GB
CanaKit 5V 2.5A Raspberry Pi B+ Power Supply

I downloaded Zelda: A Link to the Past for SNES and the whole screen was glitching out… Then I downloaded Super Mario Bros for the NES and upon starting it, it would kick me back out into the menu, and finally I downloaded Sonic The Hedgehog for Sega and I just get a complete black screen (and am unable to back out).

Like I said previously, I’m not extremely tech savvy so bare with me please. I followed the guide via YouTube links listed above. It all went extremely smooth up until I actually started to play the ROMs.

If anyone could help/assist me on this issue I promise I will be eternally grateful. Thanks!

I know its not a very specific answer, but I would be tempted to start from the top with a fairly recent tutorial. Saying that it could be as something as simple as you are using RetroPie 2.3 but adding roms in a zip format.

Download the 2.4.2 image based on this guide:

    You can download it here:

I can try that as well if you want me to. Before I do that I want to note that I have WinRAR and when I download the ROMs I have to extract them with WinRAR. I do get .nes for NES, .sfc for SNES, and .md for SEGA.

I don’t know if that would change any answers of yours but it was worth adding.
Edit: I was suspecting that something might not turn out right because the interface that he had when setting up his RetroPie wasn’t like mine. So I might have been using an outdated guide :p

    Thanks for the speedy response!

You can check the expected file extensions by reading this file

    /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg

I checked it out in zilla and it looks good.

example: .smc .sfc .fig .swc .SMC .SFC .FIG .SWC
(for SNES) and I currently have the .sfc

So I don’t think that is what is causing the issues.
If I want to put the newest RetroPie image on my SD Card and start from scratch I will have to wait until tomorrow night being as I left my SD Adapter at work :(

Any other suggestions or ideas? Memory split, configs, anything else?

Well I think I got it working for the most part. I was playing around with the ROMs and for some odd reason my RetroPie didn’t like .sfc but worked just fine with .smc…

Also the same happened with Sega ROMs, it didn’t like .md but is working just fine with .bin. I’m going to play around with it a little bit more. Anyhow, I got most of the games that I wanted working. Would anyone know why it works with certain file types but maybe not another?

Now I’m onto configuring multiple Xbox 360 wired controllers (OH GAWD!#$^@).
