Question about the gpio

so I decided on using my rpi to make a portable gameboy, but I just have one question before I buy a screen.

I have found a pretty nice touch screen on amazon that is made for the pie, but it connects via gpio and will take up most all of them (I have the B+) but I was hoping to map the control buttons to the gpio, I dont really know that much about it, but can you map the controls to pins that are also being used for the touch screen?
