are there any download links to the PC Engine & Geneses sets?
Not yet, I just need to double check things as I’ve noticed a few of the box images are incorrect, once I’m more or less happy I’ll upload them.02/10/2016 at 19:57 #116704InsecureSpikeParticipantawesome! thank you

02/11/2016 at 22:12 #116794ruckageParticipantThis is slightly off topic but I though I’d also show a theme I’m creating with these preview images in mind (I’ll probably start a separate topic for it as well). My retropie project is a converted Sega Megadrive 2 so I wanted to make a theme that I felt suited it.
I’m almost happy with the way it looks, I still haven’t decided on a font yet so it’s still using opensans at the moment which looks nice enough.
The plan is to have a different colour background for each system. It’s a shame that the system select screen isn’t more moddable as you can’t even change the colour of the carousel bar.
Lastly, I need to think of a name for the theme – any ideas?

02/28/2016 at 18:46 #118450redfarmerParticipantI love this project! Any updates? Are you still working on it?
03/04/2016 at 23:15 #119093ruckageParticipantStrange, my post keeps vanishing. I’ll repost below.
03/04/2016 at 23:18 #119095ruckageParticipantSorry for the delay. I’ve just uploaded the Megadrive previews to Mega.
You can download them here: Retropie Megadrive previews
To use them copy the “images” folder and “gamelist.xml” to either your “megadrive” or “genesis” roms folder (depending on which you are using).
This pack contains 1597 previews featuring 3D boxart, title snap and in-game snap and covers most if not all games I believe.
03/04/2016 at 23:41 #119098rdhanded2ParticipantAwesome! Thank you!!
03/05/2016 at 20:26 #119193ruckageParticipantWhat is up with these forums, won’t let me post again.
03/05/2016 at 20:32 #119197ruckageParticipantI’m trying to post a link to the PC Engine previews but the posts just vanish. And if I try and repost it says that it’s a duplicate. Very frustrating, these forums seem really buggy.
03/05/2016 at 20:39 #119202herbfargusMemberYeah that’s a fact. We’re working on getting a new site and forum

That will be good :). Though in the meantime I seem a bit stuck as it refuses to let me post this link (tried again repeatedly).
03/05/2016 at 21:28 #119212herbfargusMemberOnly thing I can think of is just making a new topic – Not much I can do on the backend really.
03/05/2016 at 22:06 #119216ruckageParticipantI had an idea, lets see if the link works if I use a URL shortening service:
Retropie PC Engine Previews <== Click Here to download :)
And we have success :) Phew! That was hard work.
To download the PC engine previews click the link above. It contains 419 previews showing the 3D hucard, Game snap and title snap.
03/10/2016 at 15:45 #119845ruckageParticipantHello,
I’ve just finished a Super Nintendo set. This caused a few problems as I couldn’t find a source of every cover, I have a virtually complete USA set but not much from other regions. Where possible I used the USA for all regions but there were still lots missing (particularly Japanese games) so for those games I created fake covers using the title screen as the cover art. It’s not perfect but it means that every game has a 3d box.
I’ll link all of the preview packs so far below so that they are easily visible (I can’t edit the first post for some reason otherwise I’d put the links there.)

this is really a very, very great work. Thanks a lot for the time you invested for this project.
I hope….in the future…. you have the time for more systems.greetings

It’s a shame that the system select screen isn’t more moddable as you can’t even change the colour of the carousel bar.
Carousel bar color is not configurable as an option in theme configuration xml files. It is hardcoded, but EmulationStation is an open source project. You can modify this colour as you wish, afaik in line 302, where it’s value is 0xFFFFFFD8 (RGB+alpha?). https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation/blob/unstable/es-app/src/views/SystemView.cpp Then compile this source as decribed here: https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation/tree/unstable#building I am not a programmer, so didn’t try it by myself :) Your previews are awesome, thank you. Any chance for Game Boy and NES packages?
03/23/2016 at 10:57 #121240comptusParticipantI have found nice 3D boxes for NES here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/12107-updated-nes-box-art-3d-2d/ Is there an easy way (automatic, app, script?) to join those pictures with screenshots and/or titles from separate files?
03/23/2016 at 13:18 #121248ruckageParticipantHi,
I’ll be making more preview sets soon. Master system, SNES, Nes, and GBA will most likely be the next sets with more to follow if there is enough interest.
The 3d boxes you found are nice but are lower resolution than the ones I’ve made myself and I’m trying to keep a consistent look. I have a source of nes scans so I will make a high resolution set of 3d boxes myself.I have made several programs that I use to generate these previews. One for generating the 3d boxes and another program that combines all the images together and finally one to create the gamelist.xml needed by emulationstation. Unfortunately they aren’t suitable for sharing as they aren’t at all user friendly, I have to modify the code for each new system. Also everything has to be renamed so that all the images match correctly so it does take a bit of preparation to get everything ready. Finally once everything is ready I use a png compression program to keep the file size as small as possible.
I may at some point get the 3d box rendering program to a state where it would be releasable as it would be useful for quite a few frontends and commercial software for doing this is expensive.
Your programs to create images are great, but gamelist.xml for megadrive was not what i need. It seems to have the same release date for all games. I prefer to use scrapper for windows (uses hash instead of rom filename to match game) on my roms folder, which creates better gamelist with more info. Then search-replace with null <description>.*?</description> in notepad++ to delete text unused in my theme (work in progress). It looks like this for now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6tVkgb-V24 So… looking forward for your next previews :)
The game list generator I made is only simple as I explained earlier in this topic – just enough to display the correct name and image. Personally I don’t care about the metadata and don’t display it (nor do many others) and it’s a pain having to scrape the roms then replace the images. I prefer to just have a really big preview image which is why the images are quite high resolution.
