Hi there,
I’ve been playing around with Retropie for a few weeks now and almost have everything as I would like it. There are, however, a few things bugging me that I just cannot seem to figure out and cannot find answers for online.
I am running the very latest image (I reflashed my SD card two days ago) on a 512 model B Pi. I am using a wired Retrolink Snes controller (tried for days to get PS3 pads working with no luck) and my Pi is backpowered by a Plugable 4 Port 2.5A USB hub. I have the overclock set to ‘medium’ in the raspi-config menu.
1) Firstly, is there a way I can force emulationstation to boot into 4:3? Though not the biggest deal, it would be nice not to have to manually change the aspect ratio on the TV each time I want to play on the Retropi.
2) When a game suffers from slight slowdown, the following message flashes at the foot of the screen ‘joypad #0 (USB Controller)’. It’s quite annoying. I get I’ll get a second of slowdown from time to time, but any way to stop it displaying this text when it does? Or is it, in fact, an issue with the controller that causes the slowdown in the first place (and thus the message)? Does it in random places, even on NES roms.
3) The (in game) sound volume settings in emulationstation do not seem to save even though the ‘disable [menu] sounds’ option does. Again, minor, but with the internal setting all the way I don’t have to turn my external sound source up to a high volume (which is annoying when I change to TV quickly forgetting and it’s really loud.)
4) I’ve seen there are common problems with Super Mario World and All-Stars working until the actual game starts. Has a fix been found? Also, my Super Mario Bros NES plays up. Sometimes you can press start immediately at the title screen and start the game. Others, the controller doesn’t respond until you watch through the twenty second or so demo. Then it plays normally.
Any ideas on any of these problems would be great.

video_aspect_ratio = 1.25
2.)Not sure, probably a setting for this you can add to the retroarch.cfg as well.
3.)You can change the master alsa sound so it is lower. In the terminal type the below command and move the slider down on the screen that pops up to where you want it.
sudo alsamixer
4.)No, Super Mario All-Stars/Super Mario-AllStars + Super Mario World do not work. Not sure about Super Mario Bros. for the NES. Maybe try a different rom rip?

here it is…. unzip it, edit it, drop it in the /opt/retropie/configs/snes folder
