Is is possible to map Retropad buttons to output keyboard keys?

I want to use a joypad with lr-caprice32 for Amstrad CPC games, most games will work with joystick controls, and I have this working perfectly. However some games (eg Thrust) don’t, they only work with a keyboard and sometimes you cant even remap the keys they use. So I would like to remap the RetroPad buttons to output keys. I can find plenty of information on configuring controllers but it is all about configuring inputs, not outputs. Has anybody else solved this?
