RetroPie files downloaded, but can't run

I downloaded all the files for RetroPie from the github setup script. I did this all through startx and LXTerminal. I’m most positive I’ve got every file, and even a couple NES roms. However, when I go to the “actual” terminal while not logged into startx, I cannot run it. If I type in “emulationstation” I get the message “-bash: emulationstation: command not found” or if I type “./emulationstation” I get the message “-bash: ./emulationstation: No such file or directory.” Some help would be greatly appreciated!
