Would it be possible to have this software run on a cubieboard? I have the pi 2, overclocked, memory split, but the eumulator for 64 just doesn’t seem to work at all. Everything is laggy and I figured with the CubieBoard being more powerful maybe that could be a better solution than running this on the pi. What are your opinions on this?
Retropie was built for the pi and will be most compatible with that. It’s likely you’ll run into hardware/software incompatibilities with a board none of the developers own. Personally I don’t even think we should have the n64 be part of retropie because of how many issues we have with it. I would just recommend using a PC for more powerful systems like the n64. Not that you cant try using the cubie board but expect it to have issues.
So with the cube it runs an android os. RetroArch seems to have all the emulators and such build in to it. Couldn’t you just run that app on android and possibly have some success? It seems as though RetroArch is the key to the retropie project as far as emulators and configuring controllers. If that app runs on other things could it be successful?
Well retropie has a lot of optimisations but you are correct at the very least you could probably get retroarch working on it. I’ve seen other people who have said they’ve gotten retroarch compiled successfully on a cubieboard.
It seems to run a lot smoother as well with the better specs. I always see people that somehow seem to have all the emulators running full speed including n64 and ps1, but mine never can run that fast.
We have three hit and miss emulators: Mupen64Plus, Reicast and PPSSPP
You can find games which run full speed (for example Castlevania X Chronicles(ppsspp), Mario64, MarioKart64, Marvel VS CAPCOM (Reicast) and you can find games which run crappy as hell (Spiderman (ppsspp), Conkers Bad Fur Day, Crazy Taxi(Reicast)).
If you want a system which runs every game full speed you should buy a fast PC.
