Delay start of loading OS

Hi, hope someone can help!

When I switch my Pi and Ex HD on at the wall, on the same plug, the ROMs from my HD don’t appear in Emulationstation. If I power on my External HD first, everything works as it should.

Is there some code I can enter somewhere which will delay the start of the OS loading in order to give my hard disk enough time to power up? About 3-4 seconds would suffice I think.

I dont know if this would help but add this to you /boot/config.txt file and see if that helps

boot_delay=x
Wait for x seconds in start.elf before loading kernel.
Default 1.
