Analog stick no longer works for menu nav in EmulationStation?

In an older version of Retropie I was able to use my analog stick to navigate through the ES menus. After updating to more recent bits, I can config the kb correctly, but the analog stick no longer navigates the menus. Is there something obvious I’m missing to get it configured? The input configuration screens in ES don’t pay any attention to it either. (It has no buttons, just a 2 axis joystick.)

Solved it by manually adding a Joystick section to the es_input.cfg and including the analog axes. Kind of a pain but there are no buttons on that stick device, so no way to trigger the in-app configuration wizard.
