Advance menu help

Hi,
I can’t use emulation station due to a bug that causes a crash when you have the display rotated.

Twice i’ve ended up with a black screen on boot after installing advancemenu.
I kept the split to 16 like advised during the compile then bumped it up to 110 I think after & set to boot into it but then the pi doesn’t even boot for me.
It seems like i’m corrupting the SD card?

It takes days to compile all of this so before I attempt again is there a guide?

Because i’m obviously doing something wrong.
